How does it remove chloramines

My tap water is treated with chloramines. How does Marineland water conditioner remove chloramines? Does it produce ammonia as a byproduct (like sodium thiosulfate does) ? If so, does bacteria (like bio spira or safe start) also need to be added every time water is added...even with smaller amounts like for evaporation?
Asked by: Sadfish
All water coniditoners "remove" chloramines the same way. They break the bond, remove the chlorine, and the resulting ammonia is removed by your biological filter. You typically do not need to add bacteria to help remove this ammonia because your biological filter is already working on it within moments. If you do a large water change, or tank is stressed for some other reason, then yes, we would recommend Tetra Safe Start Plus to help boost it. BREX

Does filtered drinking water need to be conditioned?

I used bottled drinking water for my starter 3 gallon tank and the appropriate quick start bacteria solution, do I still need water conditioner?
Asked by: seanheat
We do not usually recommend drinking water because of the process it goes through so yes, I would definitely recommend the conditioner, just to be safe. If you prefer bottled water, switch to all natural spring water instead. BREX

Can you add too much of this to the tank?

I have a 10 gallon tank and put in roughly 25 ml and now there is thick slime covering everything. Is this ok? And if not what should I do?
Asked by: Nick117894
I would change 25% of the water, and use bottled natural spring water to refill it so you won't need any conditioner for the new water. That would dilute the product in the tank. It is not toxic, and can be slightly over dosed, but you won't want that thick slime; it's unsightly. BREX

Bio Safe and Bio Coat

I was given several bottles of Bio Safe tap water Detoxifier and Bio Coat. Has a relatively nasty smell but no expiration date. Does this product expire and is there a general retail price for the products?
Asked by: Kevin1964
That product would be way beyond its expiration as it has not been manufactured since 2004/2005. Do not use it. BREX

Does this product lower ammonia levels
Asked by: Gman
It does not but to help lower ammonia just do a big water change and water changes more often or increase filtration and reduce the amount you feed your fish!

can I add to fish tank water while fish are in the tank?

20 gallon tank; son put 1 gallon of water in without purifying it beforehand; fish OK so far after 2 days; but wondering if it would help to purify water

Always add this before adding water but since your fish are fine thats good if it happens again I would just add a little conditioner.
