Magniflow® Canister Filters is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work I purchased this product a few days ago, excited to finally have a Marineland Canister filter. I've only ever had Fluval or Hydor. Now before I get started, I've been in this hobby for 10 years. I follow instructions to the letter, and I don't skip steps or improvise. I made sure everything was installed correctly, and the arrows were aligned in the baskets, as well as the IN and OUT tubing was going to the right places. So priming it was a pretty big nuisance. I pressed the priming button probably a total of 30 to 40 times. There were no kinks or twists in either of the lines, either. No leaks, or anything. And slowly, ever so slowly, the canister filled with water. Finally started priming. As the instructions mention, you can "plug in the filter" once water "starts going in and back up to the tank". So, I did exactly that. Water started going up one of the tubes (to the outlet), and I plug it in. I hear this awful, loud chattering sound, and a plethora of bubbles come out of the outlet. I unplug it thinking something was wrong. I inspect the canister, checking the impeller making sure it was on correctly. Yep, it was. Checked to make sure the baskets were aligned and oriented properly (making sure the arrows were pointing to the arrows). Going over the instructions, making sure it was assembled right. And yep! Everything was correct. Fill the canister with a little tank water to assist it in priming. Get the tubing back on (which can also be a pain, as the "key" has to be aligned perfect), and plug it in. This time, it makes a dull humming noise and thousands of tiny bubbles come out of the outlet tube and into my tank, stressing my fish and making it cloudy. After 2-3 minutes, it failed to prime. So...I double check everything again. The outlet tube went to the outlet. Inlet tube went to the intake. (Yes, I checked the "OUT" and "IN" markings on the top of the canister and made sure the right tubes went to the right parts). I even checked the baskets to make sure there was nothing preventing water flow and making sure the holes all aligned properly. Everything was EXACTLY how the instructions mentioned it to be done. Pluged it in a third time... aaandddd not even a peep from the canister. No sounds, nothing. Dead. And it wasn't the outlet, since it was plugged into a high quality surge protected outlet and everything else plugged into it was working. Even tried plugging it into another outlet that I knew worked, and it was dead. Spent a good 2 hours of my time trying to get this thing to work and it failed. Returned to store, don't have time to email customer support, to wait a few days to get a part that "might" fix the issue. You know what's easier? Driving 10 minutes to the store from where I purchased it, getting my money back. And trying that other company's filter. I think it rhymed with Luval? Their canister primed and was running in seconds. Won't be purchasing filters from Marineland. Look at all the reviews from websites other than Marineland. Mostly 1 to 2 star reviews. Very "Exceptional" Marineland.

Had one issue where the motor apprared to had burned out, contacted Marineland and they had a full replacement on the way the day of! Great response from the costomer Serv. Dept. Rated 3 out of 5 by from C-360 This filter offers generous media baskets. The motor/impeller assembly is reasonably robust. Mine had great flow. The problem was the manifold block on top would begin leaking air into the intake and flood the tank with microbubble causing all my corals to retract and pout. Customer service was excellent on getting the block replaced but it happened repeatedly. This thing can test your religion after a media change too. Getting the seals to seat properly so you don't have water running down the side when you power it back on was frustrating. It often required several attempts. I had been huge Marineland fan up until then. I still use the Magnum HOT filters on a number of my tanks to this day. It was an excellent design. My biggest complaint is that the Magnum Series was discontinued for the C Series filters. Mind boggling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING FILTER! I bought this filter because I had heard great things about it. Upgraded from a Marineland Bio-Wheel filter and since I upgraded to the Canister 360; my water became crystal clear within a matter of days. I have real driftwood so keep a crystal clear water can be challenging, but not for this filter! I would definitely recommend it... great buy, worth every single penny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Magniflow 360 I just got this yesterday for a replacement from the marineland c series 530 canister! Boy what a difference! The set up was so easy and its so quiet! I had the worst luck with the 530 which was horrible! The lid was so hard to remove! You had to pry it with butter knifes or screwdrivers! It would take me up to 2 + hours to do maintenance on it with removing the lid. It would leak, the impeller shaft broke when I removed it and then the Primer button stopped. I had to suck the water through the valve to make it work! I was at my final straw at only 3 months of run time. Well I called marineland for possible replacement parts so that I could patch it up but they told me that they would just send me a new one! Of course I refused to get the same one so i decided to down grade. I know I was losing like 30 or 40 bucks but for me not dealing with the headache its an up grade! Even better I got it in a matter of days! THANKS MARINELAND! THANKS TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP SARA AS WELL!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ML makes great filters For years I have been using ML Magniflow filters from back in the 1980's with the 300 style cartridge filter to the 360 canisters which I use today. I have a Clear for Life 55g show with 2 of these bad boys on it. Also an internal cartridge filter.Water is crystal clear all the time. I alternate canister cleaning every 3 months. Load them down with as much carbon and purigen and matrix they will hold plus new bottom filter and micro pads at the top. Also I cant forget the ceramic rings I never change them leave those as thy are. Great filters. I have a drip system with a drain on this tank the replaces ~ 260g/month so these are not as dirty as I have had in the past. I could get away with rotating cleaning every six months if I wanted. They do a wonderful job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MagniFlow has got it Goin' On! I found the Magniflow 220 very straightforward to set up and a very well put together canister filter. I had the filtration stages assembled and the canister primed in very little time. It is a quiet filter, so much so that the airstone in the tank makes for noise than the canister running! My 36 gallon bow front tank is smiling now!

I did everything they suggested and even bought a new gasket kit and it still won't seal properly. They said they can send out a new canister but I will have to pay for the old one to be returned. Spend your $250 on something else.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, it has beern great I've had mine for about a month on a 40gal Breeder freshwater tank.PROS: Setup guide easy to follow, quiet when in use, changing the filter media and cleaning the impeller is easier than another manufacturer that I have used in the past, easy to prime (except on the first depression), I like that the outlet elbow itself swivels and the diffuser vs a tube outlet.CONS: I would like to see a quick-disconnect on the power cord, so that I don't have to unwrap and re-wrap the power cord every time I clean/change the canister. When priming the pump, you really need to to push down hard of the first depression, after that the other are easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Aqauria Again!! I've been an aquarium enthusiast for decades, but never have I had such a great setup and the credit goes to the Marineland Canister filter. My 49 gallon planted bowfront has stayed clean for five years with the filter running silently to the extent that I forget all about it for months at a time. When I have cleaned it I referred to tutorial videos on YouTube to remind me of the few steps. I have replaced the inlet and outflow tubes with glass ones to help them be less noticeable and added an in line heater for the same reason. Perfect!

Can this filter be used for yellow bellied turtles?

Asked by: Mom of boys
Yes, although when you prime it, the water must be near the top of the tank. I typically keep the water within 3 inches of the top for my Eastern Painted Turtle, but if yours is not that high, then prime the filter, and drain some water back out to the level you prefer to keep it at. The filter does an excellent job of keeping a turtle tank clean and clear, especially when combined with small, partial water changes. BREX

I just installed a C360 on my 54 corner aquarium and it seems to be blowing a lot of bubbles. There are no apparent leaks. What should I do?

Asked by: Tom1000
The filter you included the link for is not a C360, it is a Magniflow 360 and there are definite differences. Both will purge air for a few days, and there will be microbubbles while this is occurring, but after a few days, you should check to ensure that the vinyl tube is pushed all the way up over the barbs and to the ridge on the intake tube. The c clamp should be installed right at the base of the ridge, tight enough to prevent air from being pulled into the filter. BREX

We would recommend the 220 to ensure you have enough filtration as you would be maxing out the 160 for sure. BREX

how come it is making this noise of air and water flow, motor running loud. Nothing in directions. so I took apart and rest it. If it takes week to stop does it start again when I clean it?

Asked by: Janet 2
When this filter is brand new, it will do this as it purges air out of it. That can take just a few days. If it is older than this, we are finding that customers are not pushing the vinyl tubing far enough onto the intake tube. It must go up to the base of the ridge, with the c clamp just below the ridge, or it will pull air. One other possibility would be an air stone near the intake tube causing bubbles to travel up the tube. BREX

I bought a C360 filter 2 days ago for my new Marineland 60 gallon tank and stand. It is running beautifully but the output diffuser is creating gushes of tiny bubbles every 30 seconds making the water look cloudy. How can I stop this from happening?

Asked by: SuzanneS
This is normal for the first couple of days, while it purges air. If it does not stop within 3-4 max, make sure you have the tubing all the way on the valve block. It must cover the barbs and go under the hose nuts, before you screw the hose nuts tight. Also, if you have an air stone near the intake tube move it, and make sure the C clamp is good and tight on the intake tube. BREX

I have the Magniflow 360 filter and I am looking for the hose size or a place where I can purchase the hose. Please advise me where I can get this info and or maybe a brush that would clean the inside of the hose. It is collecting algae and other buildup

Asked by: is2cu
The hose size is 3/4". You can attach a thin cloth to a long piece of wire and then pull it through or you can unhook the hose, curl it up and soak it in a bucket of 1 part bleach, 5-10 parts water, and let it sit for an hour or so, then soak it in plain water with water conditioner. Each piece of tubing is 6 feet long initially, unless you have cut it down. http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Filtration-Products-and-Skimmers/C-Series-Canister-Parts/Vinyl-Tubing-for-C-360-Canister-Filters.aspx BREX

Asked by: Corey38
I may have fixed it. Turns out their is a ring around the intake tube and outlet tube. The hose MUST get to this point, and maybe a little farther, than this ring. I installed a metal clamp vs the plastic snapper clamps. This made huge difference in air that was being blown around. Still have slight rattling noise, but instructions said that may be normal. Why dose my container filter Blow Bubbles from the outtake into my tank

Asked by: PhilPeoples
There are a lot of possible reasons. If it is new, it is purging air which takes a few days. If it is older, it may need new o rings. If you have an air stone or another filter near the intake tube, it is pulling air in because of that. Please call 1-800-322-1266 if you need more help. BREX

I purchased the penguin canister filter for a 29 gallon turtle tank.  the tank is on the floor.  Can i put the filter on the floor next to the tank?  Or does it have to go under the tank?

Asked by: turtle tank
That is not a Penguin filter, it is a Magniflow. Penguins are H.O.B. filters, not canisters. In order for a canister to work, the tank needs to be above it by at least 18". You will also have to have the water near the top of the tank to prime it but can then drain water back out after priming. BREX

I got Marineland 220 filter for my red slider 55gal. I was told I can put the tubes anywhere in the tank. Is this true? I can't get it to work it hums but no water flow.

Asked by: Witchnfamous89
Ideally, they should be beside each other. However, you can place one at different ends of the tank. For the priming issue, make sure your water level is high enough. I used the 360 for my turtle, but I fill the tank up to the top, prime the filter, then drain water back out. Water must be at least half way to three quarters of the way up the intake tube to prime. I purchased a c 360 filter about 6 months ago and now when I disconnected the inlet and discharge tubes to clean it, it's not stopping the water flow. And it's leaking water all over the floor what's the problem

Asked by: Highwayworker6
First, you don't disconnect the tubes, you lock the valve block off, and remove it from the motorhead. That keeps the tubing from leaking. In any case, it sounds like you need a new o ring for the motorhead too. Every time you maintain the filter, it is advised to put a thin smear of silicone lubricant on this o ring to prevent it from drying out and shrinking. It may look fine to the naked eye, but could have shrunk. Maintenance should be every month to two months. It may have dry rotted too, as we have not manufactured the C Series in about two years, so if you have had it only 6 months, it sat on a shelf somewhere for a bit. Since you have not had the filter very long, we would be happy to help you out. Please call 1-800-322-1266. BREX

Why is my filter blowing out air all connections seem solid

Asked by: Jmttt
If it is new, this is normal as it purges air from the system for the first few days. If it is not new, you may need a new o ring for the motorhead or o rings for the valve block. Also, the c clamp may not be tight enough on the intake tube or the vinyl tubing may not be far enough down on the valve block. Please call us if you need additional assistance. 1-800-322-1266. BREX
