I have a c220 filter that when I attempt to clean it water will drip from both the intake and output hoses. I have had the filter for approximately 10 years and it may be time to replace it. What are differences between C220 and 200? Use same media?

Asked by: billybob1939
You may be able to just replace the valve block and the gaskets and not the whole filter. There are some differences in the two motorheads, the media is the same. BREX

Can I install a Magniflow  in place of a Magnum 350 canister using the same tubes and connectors?  The Magnum 350 is getting pretty loud - after 20 years.  If the Magniflow would not replacement, would a new impeller magnet reduce the noise?

Asked by: Mel1044
No, they do not take the same size ID tubing. Try a new impeller and magnet as long as the motor housing is not seriously scored. Otherwise, replace the filter system. BREX

I bought a C360 filter 2 days ago for my new Marineland 60 gallon tank and stand. It is running beautifully but the output diffuser is creating gushes of tiny bubbles every 30 seconds making the water look cloudy. How can I stop this from happening?

Asked by: SuzanneS
This is normal for the first couple of days, while it purges air. If it does not stop within 3-4 max, make sure you have the tubing all the way on the valve block. It must cover the barbs and go under the hose nuts, before you screw the hose nuts tight. Also, if you have an air stone near the intake tube move it, and make sure the C clamp is good and tight on the intake tube. BREX

I have the Magniflow 360 filter and I am looking for the hose size or a place where I can purchase the hose. Please advise me where I can get this info and or maybe a brush that would clean the inside of the hose. It is collecting algae and other buildup

Asked by: is2cu
The hose size is 3/4". You can attach a thin cloth to a long piece of wire and then pull it through or you can unhook the hose, curl it up and soak it in a bucket of 1 part bleach, 5-10 parts water, and let it sit for an hour or so, then soak it in plain water with water conditioner. Each piece of tubing is 6 feet long initially, unless you have cut it down. http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Filtration-Products-and-Skimmers/C-Series-Canister-Parts/Vinyl-Tubing-for-C-360-Canister-Filters.aspx BREX

Running my C 360 for several weeks now. Everything seems to be running smoothly except for a slight rattling from what I assume must be the impeller—quite annoying. I've checked and cleaned impeller housing and retightened all connections over and over.

Asked by: AlexB1989
If you have an air stone or air ornament in the tank, turn it off for a while to see if the rattling stops. Same goes for if there is another filter on the tank. Otherwise, call us so we can do some troubleshooting. 1-800-322-1266. BREX

Just installed this filter. It’s been blow micro-bubbles now for couple hours. Will it stop and/or is this normal? I’m replacing an older (other brand) filter for doing this for 2 years so I’m cautious. Thanks

Asked by: Corey38
I may have fixed it. Turns out their is a ring around the intake tube and outlet tube. The hose MUST get to this point, and maybe a little farther, than this ring. I installed a metal clamp vs the plastic snapper clamps. This made huge difference in air that was being blown around. Still have slight rattling noise, but instructions said that may be normal. I’ll have to monitor this now.

Using both hands, one covering the other one, push down as hard as you can on it. If this does not work, you do have a 3 year warranty on the filter so call 1-800-322-1266. BREX

Why dose my container filter Blow Bubbles from the outtake into my tank

Asked by: PhilPeoples
There are a lot of possible reasons. If it is new, it is purging air which takes a few days. If it is older, it may need new o rings. If you have an air stone or another filter near the intake tube, it is pulling air in because of that. Please call 1-800-322-1266 if you need more help. BREX

I have c220, I can hear it running but not pumping water. What’s wrong with it? Pls help

Asked by: Dj love oscars
The impeller may be clogged, the valve block could be clogged, water level could be low in the tank, the tubing could be hanging below the motorhead - there are a lot of possible causes of this issue. Take the valve block off and clean out the ports, also take out the impeller, clean it, and up inside the area it sits in. Call us for more help if you cannot get it going - 1-800-322-1266. BREX

I purchased the penguin canister filter for a 29 gallon turtle tank.  the tank is on the floor.  Can i put the filter on the floor next to the tank?  Or does it have to go under the tank?

Asked by: turtle tank
That is not a Penguin filter, it is a Magniflow. Penguins are H.O.B. filters, not canisters. In order for a canister to work, the tank needs to be above it by at least 18". You will also have to have the water near the top of the tank to prime it but can then drain water back out after priming. BREX

I have a C-530 system and one of the handles (non-locking) is broken. The plastic pins snapped off when I lifted it up to open. I checked your website for parts and could not find it on your website. Filter still works fine but can I buy a replacement?

Handles are not available separately unfortunately. This one is not critical so it shouldn't be an issue, but if you are within the three year warranty, please call 1-800-322-1266 to arrange for a replacement filter. BREX

I got Marineland 220 filter for my red slider 55gal. I was told I can put the tubes anywhere in the tank. Is this true? I can't get it to work it hums but no water flow.

Asked by: Witchnfamous89
Ideally, they should be beside each other. However, you can place one at different ends of the tank. For the priming issue, make sure your water level is high enough. I used the 360 for my turtle, but I fill the tank up to the top, prime the filter, then drain water back out. Water must be at least half way to three quarters of the way up the intake tube to prime. I purchased a c 360 filter about 6 months ago and now when I disconnected the inlet and discharge tubes to clean it, it's not stopping the water flow. And it's leaking water all over the floor what's the problem

Asked by: Highwayworker6
First, you don't disconnect the tubes, you lock the valve block off, and remove it from the motorhead. That keeps the tubing from leaking. In any case, it sounds like you need a new o ring for the motorhead too. Every time you maintain the filter, it is advised to put a thin smear of silicone lubricant on this o ring to prevent it from drying out and shrinking. It may look fine to the naked eye, but could have shrunk. Maintenance should be every month to two months. It may have dry rotted too, as we have not manufactured the C Series in about two years, so if you have had it only 6 months, it sat on a shelf somewhere for a bit. Since you have not had the filter very long, we would be happy to help you out. Please call 1-800-322-1266. BREX

Why is my filter blowing out air all connections seem solid

Asked by: Jmttt
If it is new, this is normal as it purges air from the system for the first few days. If it is not new, you may need a new o ring for the motorhead or o rings for the valve block. Also, the c clamp may not be tight enough on the intake tube or the vinyl tubing may not be far enough down on the valve block. Please call us if you need additional assistance. 1-800-322-1266. BREX

I know people can use the internal Marineland filter with diatomaceous earth. 1. Could your canister filter be used in the same way? 2. To how many microns does your polishing filter go down to? ,1 or .5 etc.

Asked by: klps
Yes, you can add diatomaceous earth to the system by pouring it into a container, and setting the intake and outlet tubes in the container. The polishing pads are made from a material that does not have a micron rating corresponding to ppi. BREX

I have had the Magnum 350 for years and was considering replacing with the 360. My question is with aeration. I currently have a 2 section tank with bio wheels at the top of each. Do you recommend an air pump in addition? I have not used on in the past bu

Asked by: mwfink
Not really, as the Magniflow outlet has a pretty powerful flow and breaks the surface of the water really well. It would depend on type and quantity of fish. If you are heavily stocked or don't do water changes as required by the hobby, we would recommend an air pump or power head. BREX
