I want to disassemble ML530 primer mechanism. (its from 2006, id sticker 30H30). Maybe your engineering dep't has blueprints. 800# no help except to "push down real hard" or buy a new motorhead or filter. Thank you , Bill Thomas AquariumsW, Oly WA

Asked by: AquariumsW
Sorry Bill, but we cannot advise you to take apart the primer for safety, legal and warranty reasons. We do not provide blueprints either as that is considered proprietary. Place one hand over your other hand, on top of the button, and push down with both of them. If this does not work, then yes you would need a new filter. This one has a 3 year warranty. BREX

I own two canisters. I recently put my second in action. For 48 hours I am having an issue with mirco bubbles and cannot figure where the aeration is occurring. Any recommendations. Thank You

Asked by: Lightning
Your filter has to purge air out of it on initial setup so it is not unusual to have microbubbles for the first 2-3 days. However, if it doesn't go away, make sure your intake vinyl tubing is pushed all the way onto the intake tube. It should line up right below the highest "ridge" on the intake tube, and your clamp should be in position right at that spot. Please call 1-800-322-1266 if you need more help. BREX

why won't the cover close? I cant get the last clamp shut.

Asked by: davidl
Most likely you either do not have the trays lined up correctly with the arrows, or the media in one or more of them is up too high, interfering with leveling the trays out. When installing the trays, you should line the arrow on the tray up with the arrow on the canister body, then with both hands, slide the tray back and forth until you feel it "click" into place. BREX

Asked by: Loghouse
You can either buy tubing by the foot (you need 5/8" id) through a fish store or DIY hardware store (plumbing section) or the exact same tubing right on our website. http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Filtration-Products-and-Skimmers/C-Series-Canister-Parts/Vinyl-Tubing-for-C-160-and-C-220-Canister-Filters.aspx Each quantity of 1 equates to one six foot length of tubing. What happens if the prime button gets stuck

Asked by: Marklong002
Place both hands over the button, one crossing the other hand, and push down hard with both, simultaneously. You may need to do this two or three times, but it should pop back up and release the pressure holding it. If not, call 1-800-322-1266. BREX

What size bags carbon bags do I need for the 220? I need to replace them and was going to buy refillable bags and loose carbon/diamond mix, but I don't know what size the bags are and if I should get coarse mesh or fine mesh.

Asked by: AnnetteMG
You need 200 gm of the carbon, and the bags you use should be fine mesh. Size is up to you. Doesn't matter as long as they fit easily in the tray. BREX

I HAVE TWO MAGNIFLOW 350 FILTERS WHEN THE POWER IS OFF IT WILL LEAK BAD, WHY AND HOW DO I FIX IT. I HAD THEM FOR TWO YEARS AND HAD THIS PROBLEM FROM DAY 1

Asked by: JOE1888
Sorry to hear this, JOE1888! This is usually a motorhead o ring issue. If the filter is two years old, it is due a new o ring as they are typically replaced between 1 and 2 years. Also, whenever you maintain the filter, be sure to rub a thin smear of silicone lubricant on all o rings. BREX

What is normal maintenance, do I need extra filters, carbon, or what, thinking of 220 or 360 model for 32 gal tank. Fresh water, gold fish, one small KOI

Asked by: John 46
Normal maintenance is to replace carbon monthly and rinse out the polishing cloth. Considering the types of fish you are keeping, you may need to replace the polishing cloth instead, as they produce a lot of waste. If they are small, you might get buy with every 6-8 weeks initially. Bio balls, ceramic rings, and foam should just be rinsed, not replaced. BREX

How do u depressurization the system to open it and clean it? I turned it off let it sit for 5 minutes and still water shoots out help

Asked by: Chris is confused
Oh no, sorry to hear that! You lift the top lever of the valve block, then the bottom one. Turn the bottom one 180 degrees and make sure you lock it in place before removing the valve block from the canister. BREX

I believe I have the 360 with a 55 gal turtle tank. I'm looking at buying a 120 gallon tank to replace it. Should I buy the C530 in order to handle the extra gallons or can the 360 handle the extra water if I clean my canister and tank more frequently?

Asked by: emma12345
You definitely need either two 360s or one 530. I like two filters because they are smaller, not as heavy, and you always have one going while you maintain the other one, or in case one breaks at some point. The 530 weighs 27 lbs empty and around 75 lbs filled! BREX

My c160 is leaking like a sieve from the main motor head connection with the canister body. Help!?

Asked by: Johnnylove82
This may be due the large o ring around the motorhead if it is old or to the o rings found on the ports of the valve block. O rings should be replaced as part of normal maintenance, every 1-2 years. Also, apply a thin smear of silicone lubricant to the o ring after every maintenance to keep it in good working order. BREX

we have a brand new 160 and 360 and they both can take in water though the strainer but they fail to expel the water though the diffuser so therefore they over flow and leak every where causing a huge mess. how do we get both tubes to flow equally?

Asked by: noahrosetta
Sounds like you did not install the o rings onto the two motorheads. The large o ring comes in a clear bag with a neon instruction card attached to it. If you do not install these, the filters will not hold the pressure, and will leak. BREX

Can this filter be used for yellow bellied turtles?

Asked by: Mom of boys
Yes, although when you prime it, the water must be near the top of the tank. I typically keep the water within 3 inches of the top for my Eastern Painted Turtle, but if yours is not that high, then prime the filter, and drain some water back out to the level you prefer to keep it at. The filter does an excellent job of keeping a turtle tank clean and clear, especially when combined with small, partial water changes. BREX

I just installed a C360 on my 54 corner aquarium and it seems to be blowing a lot of bubbles. There are no apparent leaks. What should I do?

Asked by: Tom1000
The filter you included the link for is not a C360, it is a Magniflow 360 and there are definite differences. Both will purge air for a few days, and there will be microbubbles while this is occurring, but after a few days, you should check to ensure that the vinyl tube is pushed all the way up over the barbs and to the ridge on the intake tube. The c clamp should be installed right at the base of the ridge, tight enough to prevent air from being pulled into the filter. BREX

I would like to purchase a Magniflow filter for my new 30XH tank (24" x 12" x 24"). The tank will be planted with hornwort in Seachem Fourite Sand substrate. Stock will be topminnows, darters and pygmy sunfish. Should I purchase the 160 or 220?

Asked by: DJ Saberniak Jr
We would recommend the 220 to ensure you have enough filtration as you would be maxing out the 160 for sure. BREX

how come it is making this noise of air and water flow, motor running loud. Nothing in directions. so I took apart and rest it. If it takes week to stop does it start again when I clean it?

Asked by: Janet 2
When this filter is brand new, it will do this as it purges air out of it. That can take just a few days. If it is older than this, we are finding that customers are not pushing the vinyl tubing far enough onto the intake tube. It must go up to the base of the ridge, with the c clamp just below the ridge, or it will pull air. One other possibility would be an air stone near the intake tube causing bubbles to travel up the tube. BREX

I have a c220 filter that when I attempt to clean it water will drip from both the intake and output hoses. I have had the filter for approximately 10 years and it may be time to replace it. What are differences between C220 and 200? Use same media?

You may be able to just replace the valve block and the gaskets and not the whole filter. There are some differences in the two motorheads, the media is the same. BREX

Can I install a Magniflow  in place of a Magnum 350 canister using the same tubes and connectors?  The Magnum 350 is getting pretty loud - after 20 years.  If the Magniflow would not replacement, would a new impeller magnet reduce the noise?

Asked by: Mel1044
No, they do not take the same size ID tubing. Try a new impeller and magnet as long as the motor housing is not seriously scored. Otherwise, replace the filter system. BREX
