Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did little to nothing. Trying to rid my tank of a peskey algea bloom. This filter did next to nothing... Complete waste of money the tank was barely a little bit clearer... Followed all instructions properly and its really just not a good filter... Definitely going to return it to the store...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Polishing Filter! Purchased the filter from Petco , easy to assemble. I'm using it to polish my water in my 72 gallon bow front tank . Has a strong output flow , seems to work well .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works fabulous.... for awhile. I bought this product about a month and a half ago. I placed it into my planted aquarium with ease and used the carbon filter and it helped maintain the water quality and my tank was picture perfect. Cleaning the filter was the easiest part and I fell in love! Usually with normal filters and canisters it's a pain, too many cords&bulky parts. However, while cleaning the filter for the 3rd or 4th time since having it the part which holds the carbon snapped and broke way too easily and my O ring was broken in half. I was extremely bummed that I now had to switch to the polishing filter that doesn't run as well at all. I paid about 80 dollars for this filter at my local pet store and was over joyed with the product till everything seemed to break and start to lag. I suppose luck may have something to do with it. This product can be great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best filter for my 65g acrylic Aquarium I replaced a HOB and a UV Sterilizer within Magnum filtration system and I love it I just wished MarineLand would make this filter for Aquariums less than 20g as I have a 15g heavily planted tank with a external MarineLand C series filter

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It really works! Over the 20 years I have had a number of different filters and the Magnum Polishing internal canister filter is the absolute best. I was having an algae problem when I bought this system. I had to clean the filter once a week at first because of the algae filling up the canister. ( I now clean the filter once a month as part of water changes). However, the water was crystal clear in my 45 gallon marine tank with in an hour and has remained that way every since. The funny part is that I did not realize my water was not clear. What an amazing difference this system has made in my tank. I would buy this system again and highly recommend it to any one that has an aquarium. I have had no problems and it is very quiet. I have left my larger system in place and will continue to use both at the same time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lots of flow issues I have had this filter for 2 days. I planed to use it to help fight an algae bloom i'm having and used the media container for a phosphate sponge. Ran great for a few hours then the flow rate dropped to near nothing. I took it apart and cleaned it nothing, was clogging the intake or the impeller the filter sleeve it self did not even look particularly soiled. Ran it again for about 20 min and it went back to the same super low flow rate. Next i used the polish filter and it worked for a few hours the same issue. I tried to clean out the filters and they look almost new however it still moves so little water it cannot be that effective. If i run the pump in a bucket alone its fine so clearly the issue is the filters... however after a few hours of work in a 75gal tank this seems to pretty unreasonable. I would avoid this for any larger aquarium types. Summery: I would avoid this. To easy to clog up and takes constant maintenance on a larger tank. Would only recommend using for tanks no later than 40 gal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievable results Having the 38 gallon bow front kit, the marineland bio wheel 200 HOB is sub par for this set up, added this canister finally took the haze out if the water, I now pretty much use the bio wheel as a holder gir mh ceramic rings with just a pre cut piece of media in front, and use the canister as my main filter. Controlling the flow problematic but with some proper position have jt jusg right. So wish they would make a flow control. But other than that it us a awesome filter/polisher tank is now crysral clear water parameters are all perfect now we can populate the tank.

How do I clean or replace the impeller. there are no instructions for this.

Asked by: Hodoe
Once you have removed the filter from the tank, twist off the shroud (part #5) and the powerhead. You will need to remove the turret (part #3) as well, then pull the impeller out, clean it and inside the powerhead. Once clean, reinsert it, magnet first, then twist the turret back on, place it back in the shroud, line them up with the canister vessel, and twist it back on. I have had my filter for 2 days now it runs well but it is very noisy. Is it supposed to be noisy?

Asked by: Swantu
No, it should is fully submerged in water at all times, and this makes it quiet. Contact our Care Team at 1-800-322-1266 for help with this matter. BREX

My filter keeps losing flow and I’m not sure why. any suggestions as to why it seems to keep losing flow power?  I am using it as a polishing filter.

Asked by: KdW79
Most likely it is becoming clogged, especially if you are using the polishing filter. That clogs fast because it removes very tiny particles as well as large ones, and it needs to be recharged frequently. See instructions on how to do this. BREX

Can this filter be used in a 20 gallon fresh water aquarium? I currently use the Marineland Penquin Rite Size B Power filter that came with the tank. I'm having cloudy water problems & I'm having to replace the filter every week, but still cloudy.

Asked by: Pattilucy
It would be a bit too large. Cloudy water has various causes, so you need to determine what is causing yours. It is rarely the filter. Cycling through the New Tank Syndrome, organic protein, copepods, heterotrophic bacteria, over feeding, over stocking, etc. Instead of replacing the filter, try vacuuming the gravel and changing 4-5 gallons of water. If the filter cartridge is clogged, this is a sign of too much food or too many fish in the tank so cut back accordingly. Also, add Marineland Bio Spira to boost your biological filter. Last, but not least, there are some good organic adsorbent products on the market you can add to your filter to help out with this issue. BREX

I might use it for a turtle tank, but she doesn’t like a lot of water so I might put it sideways. Is this okay? I’ve heard a lot about that if it’s underwater it should work, but just in case do you have any tips?

Asked by: Kodyg
As long as it is underwater and is vertical. If by sideways you mean horizontal, no, we have not tested it in that application. The outlet diffuser is adjustable so you can adjust the direction of the flow which may help with your turtle. I've used it with an adult Eastern Painted Turtle and she was fine with it. BREX

Bought the internal canister filter 1yr ago. It worked great the 1st 6 months then it stopped cleaning the water. I've purchased new blue sleeves & new poishing cartridges but to no avail. The water looks muddy. Any suggestions? What do I need to do now?

Asked by: LadyTona
If you are not doing partial water changes, it is in desperate need of a good vacuuming and partial water change. Every tank needs these in addition to filtration, usually at least once a month. The discolored water could also be due to any number of other reasons, such as the breakdown of driftwood if you have some in the tank. There is not enough information provided to be able to assist you fully. BREX

The extension tube with flow diverter wouldn't stay on the outlet tube on the turret. The moment the water jet comes out, the extension tube get pushed right out. what am I missing here?

Asked by: ph8886
It should snap on. There is a small hole in the diffuser that goes over a very small nub on the tube. Make sure you are connecting them correctly. BREX
