Rated 4 out of 5 by from Magnum filtet This thing is awesome. I am using in my 120 aquarium on polisher and it is keeping it clear. The only problem is it works so well I have to change filter in it every couple of weeks and the polishing filters get pricey. So it works great just keep your check book handy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter I purchased the polishing filter over a month ago & it does well. Added some ammonia sponge filter to it, a little gravel inside & a piece of stocking/ pantyhose for extra filtration. So far so good. Awesome product & versatile.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 2 months then nothing This was a great filter for the first two months then the output flow dropped down to almost nothing and the most annoying loud buzzing sound began. The company did send me a replacement impeller right away, which was nice but it did not fix the problem. I tried a few things that other people who had the same issues tried without success. The company doesnt seem to want to do much else about it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Power filter It’s really nice, works For my rainbow fish tank. But it would be better if the airflow can be adjusted. Tried using in my goldfish tank the airflow is strong wish it could be adjusted. angel, discuss and goldfish. Would really appreciate this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SSDD Marineland stopped selling the parts for my HOTT Magnum so i bought this. Same problem as everyone else. worked great at first. test ran ok with no micron filter and worked as a pump well, like new. so then the micron filter cartiage seemed to be clogging the system. cleaned the cartriage, that lasted about 1/2 day. changed to the back up core with charcoal and bonded foam. worked ok but now really polishing filter like the was the first week nor like my Magnum HOTT worked for years. So here we are. HOTT Mag that is basically dead and now this highly recommended filter that doesn't work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful Little Filter I didn’t really believe how a small little thing like this could possibly work in aquariums over 90 gallons until I saw the circulation it makes in my 40gal long tank. This thing moves water like crazy! Sadly my dog ate the media container, so I can only speak for the micron filter, but it does a great job of picking up the fine particles from my new sand substrate. I’ve been hoping to find a new media container online, but no such luck, so that’s a small bummer. I do wish that parts like that were sold online!

Where can I get parts for this ?

Asked by: Skyler3333333333
That depends on what you need. You can visit our Where To Buy link and enter your zip code for your local stores. The link also provides online retailers that may help. Some of the parts are not currently sold separately and you would need to contact us via phgreviews@spectrumbrands.com. BREX

Recently bought one of these used and the seller did me a huge favor of leaving out the mounting bracket that suction cups to the glass. Is there a possibility of purchasing this item separately?

Asked by: A4Alex
No, this part is not sold separately at this time. BREX

Can this be used as a filter? And what all comes in the box?

Asked by: kasey389
Thank you for your question. Yes, it is a filter. It has two options - it can be used 24/7 as a regular filter if you use the carbon media container and filter sleeve, or you can use it to polish the water with the micron cartridge. It comes with the micron cartridge, media container, and filter sleeve. BREX

Can I leave this on 24/7 to polish

Asked by: SubieLover
Yes and no. You can leave it running as a polisher but it will clog rapidly, and leaving it as such is not necessary all the time. It certainly won't damage the filter if you use it 24/7 but you will need to take the micron cartridge out frequently and clean it. BREX

If I'm going to use this for my 3-stage filtration system do I need to buy bio balls

Asked by: SubieLover
If you feel your tank needs a boost of the biological filter you could add some. The filter sleeve and carbon media container provide plenty of surface area though, and you don't throw the filter sleeve out unless it becomes way too clogged or damaged somehow. It typically lasts several months. While the addition of bio balls can only help, it would not be necessary unless the tank is over stocked or under-maintained. BREX

I bought two of these for two different tanks.  They are both working well cleaning the water but one has a very loud motor hum.  Both purchased through Amazon.

Asked by: Colleenh
Remove the impeller, and swab out the motor with a q tip. Clean off the impeller, and re-seat it in the motor. If this doesn't resolve the noise issue, email phgreviews@spectrumbrands.com. BREX

Filter was quiet at first, now it has been a few weeks and has a grinding noise. I cleaned impeller with white vinegar didn't help. Impeller seems to have play in it I noticed a slot where impeller goes is there a key that fits to eliminate play?

Asked by: gcatena
No, there is no key. Do you happen to have sand? Sand causes grinding issues and wears grooves in the magnet as well as the sides of the motor. It is really important to remove all sand particles, and prevent them from being pulled into a filter. If you are not able to resolve the problem, email phgreviews@spectrumbrands.com. BREX
