Rated 4 out of 5 by from Magnum filtet This thing is awesome. I am using in my 120 aquarium on polisher and it is keeping it clear. The only problem is it works so well I have to change filter in it every couple of weeks and the polishing filters get pricey. So it works great just keep your check book handy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter I purchased the polishing filter over a month ago & it does well. Added some ammonia sponge filter to it, a little gravel inside & a piece of stocking/ pantyhose for extra filtration. So far so good. Awesome product & versatile.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 2 months then nothing This was a great filter for the first two months then the output flow dropped down to almost nothing and the most annoying loud buzzing sound began. The company did send me a replacement impeller right away, which was nice but it did not fix the problem. I tried a few things that other people who had the same issues tried without success. The company doesnt seem to want to do much else about it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Power filter It’s really nice, works For my rainbow fish tank. But it would be better if the airflow can be adjusted. Tried using in my goldfish tank the airflow is strong wish it could be adjusted. angel, discuss and goldfish. Would really appreciate this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SSDD Marineland stopped selling the parts for my HOTT Magnum so i bought this. Same problem as everyone else. worked great at first. test ran ok with no micron filter and worked as a pump well, like new. so then the micron filter cartiage seemed to be clogging the system. cleaned the cartriage, that lasted about 1/2 day. changed to the back up core with charcoal and bonded foam. worked ok but now really polishing filter like the was the first week nor like my Magnum HOTT worked for years. So here we are. HOTT Mag that is basically dead and now this highly recommended filter that doesn't work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful Little Filter I didn’t really believe how a small little thing like this could possibly work in aquariums over 90 gallons until I saw the circulation it makes in my 40gal long tank. This thing moves water like crazy! Sadly my dog ate the media container, so I can only speak for the micron filter, but it does a great job of picking up the fine particles from my new sand substrate. I’ve been hoping to find a new media container online, but no such luck, so that’s a small bummer. I do wish that parts like that were sold online!

Do you make a larger version of this polishing filter, or would I need to buy multiples? Have a 300 gallon freshwater tank.

Asked by: AnnH
This is the only version we make, and it will work for tanks up to about 100 gallons. You would want multiples since you have a 300 gallon tank. Maybe 2 on each end? BREX

What replacement impeller does this unit take? I have only had my filter since end of March and I need a new one...please advise, thanks!

Asked by: ScottoB
You should not need one, unless you were using sand, possibly. It would be covered under warranty if it is a manufacturing defect. You need http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Power-Heads-and-Pumps/Maxi-Jets/Impeller-Assembly-for-Maxi-Jet-1200.aspx. Call 1-800-322-1266 if you believe this is a manufacturing defect. How do you know when to switch from carbon filter to other filter?

Asked by: Misty77
You switch to the micron cartridge whenever the water becomes cloudy, green or has fine particles floating in it. You only need to run it till it clears up, which is around several hours to 24 hours. BREX

It just twists off, and then you pull it through the shroud. BREX

Can this be used with sandy substrate

Asked by: Sparks69
That would depend on the height of the tank, but it should not pull sand as easily as a tube would, as long as you have it near the top of the tank, and not the bottom. BREX

Just arrived...and I have a question for the Marineland folks before installation: I seem to see frequent comments that this filter cannot serve as the main filter. I bought it to replace the filter in my 37 gallon cichlid tank and so?????

Asked by: Little Mo
Of course this filter can be the main filter. Every tank is different, and every hobbyist has different needs, but this filter can be either the main filter or a polishing filter. To operate it as a main filter, simply use the blue filter sleeve and carbon. BREX
