The Marineland® Magnum® Polishing Internal Canister Filter uses two refillable chambers to house carbon or customizable filter media. The Magnum Polishing Internal Canister Filter is the most versatile filter Marineland has to offer. Choose from every day, continuous three stage filtration or high efficiency polishing with the included micron cartridge. The submerged motor means quick and easy start up, no priming necessary! The Marineland Magnum Polishing Internal Canister Filter filters 290 gallons per hour and is ideal for aquariums up to 97 gallons.

So I bought a 30 gallon tank I originally had this filter\polisher but returned it for a bio_wheel penguin 200. What one would you use on a salt water tank?   (beginner to a salt water tank)

Asked by: matt34
Matt, Thank you for your inquiry. Either filter is perfectly fine to be used in this aquarium. However, it is going to depend on the fish/setup that you are going to be creating. You will need to research as to what livestock you are going to put into the aquarium and then find out the best recommendations for flow rate for them. Christina

Lost the rubber gasket from inside the canister. Is this going to be a huge problem in the filtration? If so, would I be able to get a couple replacement gaskets? Thank you.

Asked by: jcastle9680
The gasket prevents bypass so you do want to have this in place. It is the same rubber gasket as those in the HOT Magnum filter we recently discontinued. The gasket part number is PR1514. Here is a link to it on our site: http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Filtration-Products-and-Skimmers/HOT-Magnum-Parts/Exhaust-Gasket-for-HOT-Magnum-PC250.aspx. It is also available through locally owned and operated fish and pet stores, as well as other online vendors. BREX

I bought one of these for my (RES) turtle tank. It worked great and kept the water clean, however when I recently went to change the water and clean the filter it has made a loud, gurgling noise and does not seem to be working very well anymore.

Asked by: Greg Lyons
We are sorry to hear this, Greg! Remove the impeller from the powerhead, and clean it with vinegar. Using a q tip with vinegar as well, swab out the inside of the powerhead. When you re-install it, be sure the little white plug is in place on the extension and the powerhead is fully submerged. If you continue to have issues, please call us directly at 1-800-322-1266. Does it have to be mounted upright or can you mount it sideways towards the bottom of the fish tank?

Asked by: Bigron57
It does need to be mounted upright to work properly. BREX

Excellent water polisher to replace my HOT.  More water current than I want for my 58 gal (3 foot) plant tank for daily use.  Although I have only run it with the micron catridge.  Could I use Maxijet 600 in place of the 1200?

Asked by: Jim70
No, this unit was designed specifically for the MJ1200. The 600 would not have the power needed to pull water through the unit properly. It also would not connect onto the body properly as well. BREX

will this work well in a 75 gallon tank

Asked by: Smitty2
Yes. It is recommended for tanks up to 97 gallons. When filtering larger tanks, also take into consideration the size, number and types of fish you are housing. In some cases, you may want a filter at each end of the tank in order to more evenly filtrate it. BREX

The extension tube fits so loosely on the output that the water flow just blows it right off. Am I not installing it correctly? I see some slots in the end that fits over the tube but I have no idea what they are for.

Asked by: dhb1
OK, I did find the tab on the bottom of the output tube, I just hadn't pushed it on far enough. If I could make a suggestion I think this should be put in the instructions when they are up dated, but then that's just me I don't see anyone else having this problem.

The impeller itself does not have an o ring, but the impeller cover or housing does. Just give us a call as it would be under warranty. Our phone number is 1-800-322-1266. BREX

Does Marineland sell the Internal Magnum impeller here online? If not - where can I get one since the retails stores in my area do not sell the part.

At this point in time, that filter is so new to the market, that replacement parts are not sold separately. You would simply give us a call to order one under warranty. Our phone number is 1-800-322-1266. BREX

Do you have one of these canisters for a 110 gallon tank?

Asked by: Carl larue
We appreciate your interest in this Marineland product! No, this is the only size this filter comes in. If you are wishing to use it as your regular filter, you could place one one on each end of the tank. If you just want it as an occasional polishing filter, your tank is really not that much larger than the recommended maximum size, so it would work, just possibly take a little longer. BREX

I have had the filter for about six weeks. I clean it once a week. Last time cleaned it & put back in tank & plugged it in, it did'nt come on. Now it only comes on when move out nozzle back & forth. Any ideas why?

Asked by: jts114
We are sorry to hear this has happened. Here are some things to try in case you did not do them during cleaning: - soak the impeller after removing all debris and sludge in distilled white vinegar - swab out the inside of the powerhead with a q tip and vinegar - using a toothpick or swab, clean out the outlet diffuser "port" - check all o rings and make sure they are not pinched or damaged - make sure the media container is not overly full with carbon. It should be within an inch of the top of the container and no more - replace the filter sleeve If you are unable to resolve this issue, please call us directly at 1-800-322-1266 BREX -

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MARINELAND POLISHING FILTER AND THE MARINELAND HOT MAGNUM,OTHER THAN ONE IS HOB AND THE OTHER IS INTERNAL.

Asked by: leoj1
Thank you for your interest in these Marineland products. You stated the main difference. However, the polishing filter is also smaller and powered by a MaxiJet 1200, whereas the HOT had a motor in the bottom of the canister, with a separate impeller and impeller module. It also had an intake and outlet. The Magnum P.I. pulls water into it through slots along the back of it so there is no intake, and the water travels up through the canister and out the powerhead. What is the purpose of the plug on the extension tube?

Asked by: Ken12444444
I believe you are referring to the plug on the diffuser. This filter is powered by a Maxi Jet Pro 1200 power head. The power head, as sold by itself, comes with a short tube and venturi adaptor to allow you to use it to provide oxygen in certain situations, along with strong water movement. The plug on this filter also comes with the MJ Pro 1200 power head, sold alone. The purpose is to plug the hole when the tubing is not in use, in order to generate the most current/flow rate. BREX

Is there any diffuser pipe available that can go in the extension tube with plug so that I can increase more oxygen in the water?

Asked by: Kelman
Thank you for your interest in the Magnum Internal Polishing Filter. It uses the Maxi Jet 1200 power head to power itself, so yes, the parts that are sold separately for the MJ 1200 will also work with this filter. I believe you need the ML90523 Accessory Kit. You may order this through your local fish store, or try various online vendors carrying Marineland parts. Alternatively, try standard air line tubing, as I believe it is the same ID. BREX

so I have the internal canister filter and it's been working pretty well.I took it out and cleaned it up a bit. I put it back in and there's no power coming out, barely any air pumping out. Before the filter was silent. Now it's rattling, any suggestions?

Asked by: Mikeleonard
Thank you for your question. You need to take it out again, open the power head, and remove the impeller once more. It may still have debris or some build up of some sort, or you may not have re-seated it correctly, assuming you took it out and cleaned it previously. The rattling makes me think it is a seating issue. If you are unable to resolve this, please call us directly at 1-800-322-1266. BREX

I need plastic tubing for the input and output where do I obtain this? none of the local stores in this area handle it.

Asked by: colesmc
I'm not sure what filter you own, as the one you provided a link for does not require any tubing. If you have one of our canister filters that do have tubing, it can be purchased through a DIY hardware store. Inlet and outlet tubes are available on our site usually, or through www.drsfostersmith.com, www.petsolutions.com or www.thatpetplace.com to name a few sites. BREX

New 40 Gallon Breeder Tank Running Penguin 200 and 2 Power heads lot of what seems to be dead spots that get build up would this be a good replacement for one of the powerheads or should I up my filtration to a larger set up had this in a 29 gallon before

Asked by: Jeff123
Hi Jeff123! I would increase the filtration. The power heads are providing plenty of circulation in that size tank. Your Penguin 200 is maxed out at 40 gallons. I always like to have some extra filtration and I tend to prefer a filter at each end of the tank. So my recommendation would be two of the Penguin 200 filters, one at each end. BREX

Very happy with new magnum inside the tank filter. Howeve, after several hours of operation the motor became extremely loud almost like cavatation. Can the impeller be separated from the unit?

Asked by: Joey z
Thank you for your inquiry! Yes, most likely something has been pulled into the impeller and is causing the issue. Separate the power head from the canister body, and then twist the front cover, where the diffuser connects, to remove it. This will allow you to open the power head and remove the impeller. BREX

How well does this work in marine aquarium an what can you tell me about  this product  so I can direct  my customers  to a new item.

Asked by: averett1980
Thank you for your interest in this Marineland product! This filter will work great in any type of aquarium from turtle tanks to saltwater. For saltwater, you could replace the carbon with bio media use as bio balls or ceramic rings, and have the filter sleeve on the outside of the media container for more mechanical filtration. It is fully submersible with the powerful Maxi Jet 1200 Power Head providing plenty of flow rate to increase water movement across corals. Easy to take apart and maintain, Maxi Jet parts are readily available as well. BREX

Hello, I have the Internal Polishing Filter and absolutely love it. Cleared up my 120 gallon overnight. Unfortunately now it is constantly blowing air bubbles. "It seems like it is creating it's own air." Any Solutions?

Asked by: PurpleJeebus
Thank you for your kind words about the Magnum Internal Polishing Filter! There are only two reasons that I know of that this unit would blow "air bubbles". One is when it is first submerged because it has to purge all of the air out of it. This purging will last several minutes. The other would be if it is not fully submerged at all times. If your situation is not either of these, please call us at 1-800-322-1266 so we can do some troubleshooting to get to the bottom of the situation. BREX

Hello, Can the impellor be swapped with other Marineland powerheads to slow the filter down for using GFO? Like with a Maxi Jet400 for example?

Asked by: aquaman67
No. Each powerhead has its own impeller. This unit comes with a Maxijet 1200 powerhead, and the impeller would be too big for the MJ 400. BREX

Asked by: randdy
No, unfortunately, there is no spray bar attachment. The only thing you could do is try moving the diffuser so the water hits the side of the tank, or the back of the tank, to try to break up the flow some. BREX
