What is the plug for on the outp nozzle?

Asked by: RobertR
The powerhead that comes with this unit is also sold separately as the Maxi Jet 1200 Pro powerhead. As a powerhead, you can attach a venturi to it. The plug closes that hole up, since a venturi is not necessary with this filter. BREX

I have the internal polishing filter using diatom with it. What is the best procedure to clean the filter element and do you need to "recharge" it with more diatom after cleaning it?

Asked by: Fudsey
Basically, rinse it gently with cool water. And yes, you will need to add diatom powder each time. BREX

I am using the magnum polishing filter as a water polisher in a125 gallon fresh water tank. I have 2 eheim 2217 filters and a uv sterilizer. Filter works great but every 2 days it starts to rattle and the cartridge is dark brown. Is this normal?

Asked by: Azetbur65
Sounds like there is a lot that it is having to pull out of the tank which is why the cartridge is so brown. The rattling probably begins occurring due to the cartridge clogging, reducing the flow rate. Remove the impeller periodically and clean it as well. BREX

Is it normal that my filter turns off and then on? Is yes can i setup the timing for it to turn off

Asked by: EthanLee
Hi EthanLee, No, it would not be normal to turn off, then on. It should just run. Make sure there isn't an air stone near the filter that could be sending air bubbles up into the filter. Also, Take the filter out of the tank, take it apart, and remove the impeller from the powerhead for cleaning. It could have some debris interfering with it. BREX

What size tubing fits the input/output on this filter?

Asked by: Tmunee
There is no input/output tubing for this filter. It pulls water in through the canister by way of a powerhead. The powerhead has an outlet diffuser on it, and does not require any tubing. BREX

My mom has a 29 gallon tank. The magnum canister filter system for her tank full of molly fish?  She has seen it at work and she is impressed at how well it did.

Asked by: CountryGirl
It would be a bit big for her tank in both overall size, taking up a lot of space, and in flow rate. The mollies may not be able to handle the flow. You can adjust the flow somewhat, with the diffuser, but it is very powerful. She might be able to use it for short periods of time as a polishing filter, but I am not sure the fish could handle it full time. BREX

So I bought a 30 gallon tank I originally had this filter\polisher but returned it for a bio_wheel penguin 200. What one would you use on a salt water tank?   (beginner to a salt water tank)

Asked by: matt34
Matt, Thank you for your inquiry. Either filter is perfectly fine to be used in this aquarium. However, it is going to depend on the fish/setup that you are going to be creating. You will need to research as to what livestock you are going to put into the aquarium and then find out the best recommendations for flow rate for them. Christina

Lost the rubber gasket from inside the canister. Is this going to be a huge problem in the filtration? If so, would I be able to get a couple replacement gaskets? Thank you.

Asked by: jcastle9680
The gasket prevents bypass so you do want to have this in place. It is the same rubber gasket as those in the HOT Magnum filter we recently discontinued. The gasket part number is PR1514. Here is a link to it on our site: It is also available through locally owned and operated fish and pet stores, as well as other online vendors. BREX

I bought one of these for my (RES) turtle tank. It worked great and kept the water clean, however when I recently went to change the water and clean the filter it has made a loud, gurgling noise and does not seem to be working very well anymore.

Asked by: Greg Lyons
We are sorry to hear this, Greg! Remove the impeller from the powerhead, and clean it with vinegar. Using a q tip with vinegar as well, swab out the inside of the powerhead. When you re-install it, be sure the little white plug is in place on the extension and the powerhead is fully submerged. If you continue to have issues, please call us directly at 1-800-322-1266. Excellent water polisher to replace my HOT.  More water current than I want for my 58 gal (3 foot) plant tank for daily use.  Although I have only run it with the micron catridge.  Could I use Maxijet 600 in place of the 1200?

Asked by: Jim70
No, this unit was designed specifically for the MJ1200. The 600 would not have the power needed to pull water through the unit properly. It also would not connect onto the body properly as well. BREX

will this work well in a 75 gallon tank

Asked by: Smitty2
Yes. It is recommended for tanks up to 97 gallons. When filtering larger tanks, also take into consideration the size, number and types of fish you are housing. In some cases, you may want a filter at each end of the tank in order to more evenly filtrate it. BREX

The extension tube fits so loosely on the output that the water flow just blows it right off. Am I not installing it correctly? I see some slots in the end that fits over the tube but I have no idea what they are for.

Asked by: dhb1
OK, I did find the tab on the bottom of the output tube, I just hadn't pushed it on far enough. If I could make a suggestion I think this should be put in the instructions when they are up dated, but then that's just me I don't see anyone else having this problem.
