The Magnum Polishing Internal Canister Filter is the most versatile filter Marineland has to offer. Choose from every day, continuous three stage filtration or high efficiency polishing with the included micron cartridge. The submerged motor means quick and easy start up, no priming necessary! The Marineland Magnum Polishing Internal Canister Filter filters 290 gallons per hour and is ideal for aquariums up to 97 gallons.

Can this filter be used in a 20 gallon fresh water aquarium? I currently use the Marineland Penquin Rite Size B Power filter that came with the tank. I'm having cloudy water problems & I'm having to replace the filter every week, but still cloudy.

Asked by: Pattilucy
It would be a bit too large. Cloudy water has various causes, so you need to determine what is causing yours. It is rarely the filter. Cycling through the New Tank Syndrome, organic protein, copepods, heterotrophic bacteria, over feeding, over stocking, etc. Instead of replacing the filter, try vacuuming the gravel and changing 4-5 gallons of water. If the filter cartridge is clogged, this is a sign of too much food or too many fish in the tank so cut back accordingly. Also, add Marineland Bio Spira to boost your biological filter. Last, but not least, there are some good organic adsorbent products on the market you can add to your filter to help out with this issue. BREX

I might use it for a turtle tank, but she doesn’t like a lot of water so I might put it sideways. Is this okay? I’ve heard a lot about that if it’s underwater it should work, but just in case do you have any tips?

Asked by: Kodyg
As long as it is underwater and is vertical. If by sideways you mean horizontal, no, we have not tested it in that application. The outlet diffuser is adjustable so you can adjust the direction of the flow which may help with your turtle. I've used it with an adult Eastern Painted Turtle and she was fine with it. BREX

Bought the internal canister filter 1yr ago. It worked great the 1st 6 months then it stopped cleaning the water. I've purchased new blue sleeves & new poishing cartridges but to no avail. The water looks muddy. Any suggestions? What do I need to do now?

Asked by: LadyTona
If you are not doing partial water changes, it is in desperate need of a good vacuuming and partial water change. Every tank needs these in addition to filtration, usually at least once a month. The discolored water could also be due to any number of other reasons, such as the breakdown of driftwood if you have some in the tank. There is not enough information provided to be able to assist you fully. BREX

The extension tube with flow diverter wouldn't stay on the outlet tube on the turret. The moment the water jet comes out, the extension tube get pushed right out. what am I missing here?

Asked by: ph8886
It should snap on. There is a small hole in the diffuser that goes over a very small nub on the tube. Make sure you are connecting them correctly. BREX

Does this filter agitate the water enough for airation or is a seperate airator needed. Thanks

Asked by: BLUEkoi
Definitely if you put it right at the water level. You can also add the Maxi Jet venturi adapter to create more air. BREX

Recently my Magnum Polishing Internal started to get loud. I found the outlet/impeller housing to have small cracks all around where the rubber part of the impeller sits. This allows for the impeller to wobble. Where do I get a new housing?

Asked by: Lyles307
Called in and was told that the parts are discontinued for the Magnum Internal Polishing canister filter. Sad that I bought this less than a year ago and can no longer get parts for a filter that has worked great until the part failed. I was going to buy two more of these for my other tanks until I found this out.

Asked by: Big B
Defective how? This filter comes with a 3 year warranty on it. Please call our Care Team for help with this matter - 1-800-322-1266. Impellers are the same as the ones for the Maxi Jet Pro 1200 and readily available via our website, and at www.amazon.com. BREX

The filter can get really loud. Sometimes unplugging helps. Any suggestions? Only had it a month.

Asked by: Heather2112
Ensure it is fully submerged at all times, and take out the impeller to check for anything caught in it. If you have sand substrate, you have to remove the sand from the power head and the impeller and find a way to prevent it from being pulled into the filter. BREX

I love this filter, but recently I've run into a problem. We have it running as a second filter in our 150 marine tank. In setting up the tank the gasket was misplaced and now the filter shoots out bubbles, despite it being completely submerged. Help!

This filter takes the same gaskets as those for the HOT Magnum. http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Filtration-Products-and-Skimmers/HOT-Magnum-Parts/Exhaust-Gasket-for-HOT-Magnum-PC250.aspx BREX

We bought this filter and the first few days it was quiet and cleaned the water. Now it makes an aweful humming/crackling sound. My boyfriend has cleaned it and looked over the directions and it still makes this sound.

Asked by: Dwyatt
Make sure he removed the impeller and cleaned it and inside the motor where it resides. Q tips work best for the motor. Also, if you have sand as a substrate, you may have some caught under the magnet or the impeller. If you cannot resolve the noise, please call 1-800-322-1266. BREX

We would first recommend you open the powerhead, take out the impeller, and clean it and the inside of the powerhead with vinegar. If this does not get it operating again, call us at 1-800-322-1266. BREX

Does it Airate?

Asked by: Elliottelliott
Yes, by moving the water it aerates, but you also have a plug you can leave out, and leave the top inch or so up out of the water to provide additional air. Or you can add the Maxi Jet 1200 Accessory kit with the venturi and adapter. BREX

I recently purchased this filter and absolutely adore it. Problem is, while rinsing it at the end of the month, I somehow dislodged the little plug and it slid straight down the drain. Is there a way I can purchase a replacement plug?

Are you referring to the plug that goes on the diffuser? I believe you need item ML90770-602, but we do not sell it separately at this time. Please call or email us and we'd be happy to send one to you. 1-800-322-1266 or techsupport.marineland@spectrumbrands.com. BREX

I just bought this filter and installed. Its making a crackling noise and the outlet does not produce any bubbles. I just see ripples on the top layer of water. Is this normal? Should it not pump water out with bubbles?

Asked by: Kishore Prasad
It will not produce bubbles unless you add a venturi to it, which is an optional item, and sold separately. Pull the impeller out of the powerhead and re-seat it to stop the crackling noise, if it doesn't stop on its own in a few hours. BREX
