Rated 1 out of 5 by from $65 for am emperor 400 I looked at them 2 months ago and the were $35 I was gonna but a few of them but since you jacked the cost another $30 I ordered 3 aqua clear 110s because unlike the 400 emperor at least the aqua clear is worth that much

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter I have never owned a marineland product before. I decided to try this out for my 29 gallon saltwater reef tank. Setting it up was easy. However I do not like how long the tubing is that is used for the intake. I had to almost cut it in half which I'm hoping once i set up my 125 gallon saltwater tank i can get another replacement intake tube. but other than that so far it does an excellent job at cleaning the tank from debris that get stuck behind the live rock. Compared to my aquaclear 70 this one beats it hands down. looks much cooler too with the two waterfalls and the intake tube for lower in the tank and halfway intake. If all goes well I will probably do an update on it if I decide to use it on my 125 later.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quit after 8months I had asked my dad to buy the emperor to go with my largest newest aquarium for a Xmas present for me.I have four of the penguin 350s and although a bit noisy seemed to work alright. I installed the emperor and woke up not even 9 months later and it was dead in the water. I maintain each filter weekly and inspect each one almost daily. But no power or any filter sound. The impeller had no life and no blockages or sand or anything was seen. I talked to the store where purchased and they would not help me. I don't think a higher price model like this should only last 8months when it was not even the only filter on the tank. I prob won't buy another one as it really frustrated me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Spray bars don't work I bought this in January 2017. After running for 3 months, I took it off for cleaning. The spray bars never worked again. Customer service sent me a new one, same thing happened. I can get the spray bars to work, until I install the uplift intake tube, then they stop. I triple checked to ensure I installed everything properly, but I can't get the spray bars to work once the intake tube is installed. I cannot recommend this filter at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for secondary filtration As a primary you’ll find to be less thorough than a canister. A canister provides for biological filtration and this HOB is perfect for mechanical. Easy access for maintenance. Quieter than most. Must change pads periodically bc of how good the mechanical filtration is. That being said if you use two for a 55 gal or above it’s 4 out of 5. If you use it to supplement a canister than again it’s 4 out of 5. If used by itself, only do it if you fish are low maintenance, not very messy and the tank is moderately to low stock. Don’t do if the tank is heavily stocked. 4 star imho.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Marineland, Emperor, Eclipse System, and Penguin The ideal filter for me would be: 1. A filter that offers Mechanical, Chemical, and Biological Filtration. 2. Relatively inexpensive. 3. Easy to clean. 4. A filter that will last a long time. There are two main filter systems on the market that have been doing this for years. Both are owned by larger companies. While I like the competition's filter using a sponge to do the Biological Filtration, the Marineland Design, Emperor Power Filters, I have found to be the best due to the ease of cleaning. One does not have to take out the sponge to clean it every time they replace the filter cartridge, just leave the Bio-Wheel in. This technology is the best, and I bought my Eclipse 2 System around 1997.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from BUT A MILLION STARS FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE Unfortunately, I think I received a faulty product. I called the 1-800 number to see what my options were since I purchased it off Amazon. An actual human lady picked up the phone after like 2 rings! NO PROMPTS! I explained my issues and that I didn't know what to do and *BAM!* without even submitting any receipts or serial numbers she is sending me an ENTIRE NEW UNIT. I was shocked. My LFS highly recommended these filters as they only use the Emperor 400s on all of their tanks, my son has 2 that are at least 10 years old and his fish are awesome. I really, really hope I just received a faulty one because if this new one works, I will buy everything from now on from Marineland. And the human lady's name is Sara and she ROCKS. Thank you!!

I think something is wrong with my filter but I don’t know what it is, everything seems to work right but water is so dirty and my fishes died, al the food is stick to the bottom of the extension tube(strainer), I hope someone can give me an idea.

Asked by: Coni
Your filter is working, but it sounds like you are seriously over feeding. At feeding time you should only put enough food in the tank that the fish can consume ALL of it in 30 seconds of less. It should never have a chance to drift down to the filter intake or the bottom of the tank. Feed an average of 1 flake of food per inch of fish. So, for example, a 3" fish only needs three flakes at meal time. For now, vacuum the gravel and take out one third of the water, replacing it with fresh, conditioned water. Test your water quality parameters for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. They are probably high. Take the intake tube and filter cartridges out of the filter, and clean them. If the flow rate has slowed down, also remove the impeller from the filter box and clean it. Once everything is clean again, add Aquarium Bacteria to the tank. You need 0 ammonia, and 0 nitrite before you can add any more fish. Once you can add fish, add only one inch of fish per 10 gallons of water, and while the fish are floating in their bag(s), acclimating to the water temperature, add more bacteria to the tank. BREX

I purchased the 80 gallon filter assembled it the way it shows on the instructions filled the filter with water and when I turn it on it's making a grinding noise at the little impeller wheel and wont stay sucking up water. Is this a bad filter?

Asked by: Lawdog
Most likely no. Make sure the water in the tank is all the way to the top. Turn the spray bars so that they shoot water into the filter box, and not on the bio wheels. Let the filter run for about five minutes, and then turn the spray bars back towards the bio wheels. This should fix the issue. The spray bars pull water out faster than a new filter can fill up. Does this filter run off 220VAC? If not, please can you recommend one of your hanging filter systems that does.

Asked by: ianrwood
No. We are in the United States so all of our filters are for 110V. You would need to use a converter with any of them. BREX

I purchased your emperor power filter model 400 last winter, great filter so far. Only issue is I can't get the spray bars to work. I clean it monthly still no luck. The flow manifold cover is in place. After cleaning when I turn it on, the bars work for.

Asked by: boudreaus
We are sorry the spray bars are working intermittently. We suggest cleaning them well and applying silicone lubricant to the gaskets on each side where they connect to the filter body. This will create a better seal and make them work better. If it doesn't please call Marineland at 1-800-322-1266 for help.
