Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid filter I have been using this filter for years now. Unfortunately it has become very loud still works perfectly however the noise is extremely annoying. I would like to buy another one to replace the current noise box but I can't seem to find an emperor 280 anywhere for sale. Other than having noise after years of use I still want another one because there isn't another hang on power filter that works as well as this one great overall design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from still think its the best filter for the money i read a lot of the reviews about these filter and its unfortunate that some people have issues with it. i have used mainland products for my aquariums through the 30 plus years I have had aquariums and the emperor and penguin as well as the magnums and have had great success with all of them. i have 4 emperors running split between two 65 gallon aquariums they are quiet both are in my bedroom all i hear is the water moving. These filters are easy to maintain as well. i utilize the reusable media containers

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great filter I'm running these filters on 7 tanks. To make these filters perfect they need to be quiter and have rinseable filters that don't plug up so fast.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible! I have had this filter now for three weeks. I have 150 gallon tank with two turtles. It worked great the first week. Then it stopped sucking up water. I have cleaned the entire filter checked the intake valve and propeller and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I have no idea why it's not working. I still have to manually clean my turtle tank out every week to keep it clean. Was not worth the money I spent. Returning it today.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Marineland Emporer 280 replacement I'm so sorry on my response to your email, I was on my phone and I accidently slid my thumb over the report button and no...and it wouldn't let me change it?Why did Marineland quit making the 280 model??? What replacement did they make for a 20 to 30 gallon tank? I really love the dual action with the spray bar. I know the penguin filters are there but I really like the spray bar action. All said and done...they are the best power filter on the market! And I have tried a lot over the years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love my 280 when i was still young to aquariums, i had many issues with trying to find the right filters and an overall good brand to use. I had been using a fluval 70 on my fancy goldfish tank but the filter was unreliable and hard to clean. When i was starting my malawi mbuna tank i bought an emperor 280, and from the start i loved it. when i was constructing it i loved how versatile it could be with all the things you could add to it. Also i am very impressed with the bio wheel technology, very innovative. i also added a 36'' led light on that tank and it looks incredible. currently I'm setting up a planted angel tank and for everything I'm using marineland

Hi. I have the 2 bio wheel filter I got over 5 years ago. Then I put it in storage til now. It is pretty noisy and don't remember it being noisy before. I read somewhere getting another impeller would help. I would appreciate any guidance. Thank you

Asked by: sheli
Thank you for contacting us! That would definitely be where I would start. Try pulling the impeller out of the flow manifold, and then re-inserting it and re-seating them into the filter. If that doesn't help, then yes, I would recommend purchasing a new impeller as dry storage can damage them if it is a lengthy amount of time. Also, if you happen to be using sand or have a bubbler near the intake, these two things can create a lot of noise as well.BREX

my emperor 400 filter has become noisy and won't pump water to spray tubes?

Asked by: oscar george
Thank you for your question! That's a simple fix - your flow manifold cover has either become lost, cracked or fallen off the manifold. Disconnect the spray bars, pull out the flow manifold and check the cover on the bottom of it. This is sort of a key hole shape, about 2-3 inches long, and it slides over the impeller and snaps into the bottom of the flow manifold. If you are unable to resolve this issue, please call us at 1-800-322-1266.BREX

I have had my 400 for so long I couldn't say how old it is. I cleaned it and changed the media. Now it does nothing when plugged back in. Did it decide to die?

Asked by: tropicalterry
I figured it out myself. The magnet on the impeller separated from the plastic part. I       superglued it and is working for now. Was going to order a new one but with shipping was over 30 dollars and I can get a new filter for about 45 with free shipping

Do you have any new or improved Emperor® like Power Filters coming out?

Asked by: jlmlw
No, we sure don't. The Emperor 400 is the only one we have on the market, and we are not making any changes to it currently. The impeller was upgraded about a year ago.BREX

What is the difference between Rite Size and BIO-Wheel Filter Replacement Cartridges

Asked by: daisykasey
Rite Size cartridges are replacement cartridges with floss and carbon. You replace these monthly. Bio-wheel replacement wheels are the round wheels that sit in front and provide surface area for beneficial bacteria. You never replace these unless they become damaged.BREX
