Rated 4 out of 5 by from great filter I'm running these filters on 7 tanks. To make these filters perfect they need to be quiter and have rinseable filters that don't plug up so fast.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible! I have had this filter now for three weeks. I have 150 gallon tank with two turtles. It worked great the first week. Then it stopped sucking up water. I have cleaned the entire filter checked the intake valve and propeller and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I have no idea why it's not working. I still have to manually clean my turtle tank out every week to keep it clean. Was not worth the money I spent. Returning it today.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Marineland Emporer 280 replacement I'm so sorry on my response to your email, I was on my phone and I accidently slid my thumb over the report button and no...and it wouldn't let me change it?Why did Marineland quit making the 280 model??? What replacement did they make for a 20 to 30 gallon tank? I really love the dual action with the spray bar. I know the penguin filters are there but I really like the spray bar action. All said and done...they are the best power filter on the market! And I have tried a lot over the years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love my 280 when i was still young to aquariums, i had many issues with trying to find the right filters and an overall good brand to use. I had been using a fluval 70 on my fancy goldfish tank but the filter was unreliable and hard to clean. When i was starting my malawi mbuna tank i bought an emperor 280, and from the start i loved it. when i was constructing it i loved how versatile it could be with all the things you could add to it. Also i am very impressed with the bio wheel technology, very innovative. i also added a 36'' led light on that tank and it looks incredible. currently I'm setting up a planted angel tank and for everything I'm using marineland

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Best I have been using the 400 for years. I run two on each of my 90gal and two 55gal tanks. All three are freshwater tanks and the water quality is great in all of them. I have four mated pairs of Angel fish and have raised hundreds of baby Angels. For me and the money, you can not beat the 400.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cleans like a champ! I was having no success in getting my canister filter positioned correctly so it wouldn't leak. Went to Tropical Fish Haven in Corpus Christi (been there 50 years) and was recommended to use the Emperor 400. WOW! Not only is it easy to set up but it filters my tank perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent filtration, fast bio set up with bio whe Was having trouble setting up a aquarium with nitrite and ammonia, until I put the 400 on it. The bio wheel seems to work very effectively, compared to other filters

Do you have any new or improved Emperor® like Power Filters coming out?

Asked by: jlmlw
No, we sure don't. The Emperor 400 is the only one we have on the market, and we are not making any changes to it currently. The impeller was upgraded about a year ago.BREX

What is the difference between Rite Size and BIO-Wheel Filter Replacement Cartridges

Asked by: daisykasey
Rite Size cartridges are replacement cartridges with floss and carbon. You replace these monthly. Bio-wheel replacement wheels are the round wheels that sit in front and provide surface area for beneficial bacteria. You never replace these unless they become damaged.BREX

we have an Emperor 400 which came with a tank we bought and we want to start using it….what do we need to put in the  plastic filter cartridges? I tried putting straight carbon in but most fell out through the little holes?

Asked by: skyline
You must have some really fine carbon! Carbon is recommended (ours is Black Diamond and it won't fall out), zeolite/ammo chips, filter floss, bio beads. Anything that will fit in them is fine. You want to use what will benefit your tank the most. BREX

I have an emporer 400 and pengium 350 on a 46 bow salt water tank. The last 2 weeks there have been al a lot of bubbles at the top of the tank. What could be causing this? What/where do I need to check the filters

Asked by: Jeff99
Sounds like you have excess protein in the tank. Do you not have a protein skimmer? I would recommend a partial water change of the tank, and if you haven't done so recently, take the filter systems apart and clean them. However, do not do all of this at once. Do the water change, wait a day or two, take one filter apart, wait another couple of days, and take the other filter apart. And if you do not have a protein skimmer, you most likely need to get one.BREX

Hello, I have used your emporer filters sense the 1990's and absolutely love them. Currently I'm replacing my 400's with new one's but I can't find any of the 280's. Is their any still on the shelf somewhere that are new that I could buy? I need 2.

Asked by: rlkfish1
Those have been discontinued, and are no longer available. There may be some out there on store shelves somewhere, but we no longer have any stock.BREX

I have an elderly Emperor 400. It now struggles and makes noises after any power outage or flicker. I have to raise the impeller unit by hand and hold it up until it functions properly. This can take ages. Do I need to replace a part? Suggestions?

Asked by: Sajshore
If you have not already done so, soak the impeller in distilled white vinegar for about 15-30 minutes. While it is soaking, swab out the little reservoir it resides in with vinegar as well. The water level in your tank should always be near the top or it will struggle to pull water. If even after vinegar, it continues to struggle, you may need a new impeller.BREX
