Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Best I have been using the 400 for years. I run two on each of my 90gal and two 55gal tanks. All three are freshwater tanks and the water quality is great in all of them. I have four mated pairs of Angel fish and have raised hundreds of baby Angels. For me and the money, you can not beat the 400.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cleans like a champ! I was having no success in getting my canister filter positioned correctly so it wouldn't leak. Went to Tropical Fish Haven in Corpus Christi (been there 50 years) and was recommended to use the Emperor 400. WOW! Not only is it easy to set up but it filters my tank perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter I am using one of these filters on my 27gallon cube tank. It's very quite and is keeping the tank very clean. I like the bio wheel. It really helps if you don't have live plants in your tank or are just getting your tank established. I recommended this filter system to uncle who has a 55 gallon and it is keeping his tank clear as well.

I love my Emperor 280 power filter. I have a 30 gallon freshwater tank and my filter has lasted for 15 years. Rather than take it all apart, cleaning it and replacing parts, I wanted to just buy a new one. Is this filter still being made?

Asked by: ChrisWR
No, it is not. The Emperor 400 is still in production, but the 280 is not. We would recommending cleaning it with distilled white vinegar. Parts are still available if you do need some.BREX

I need to replace the 2 bio wheels on my 330 filter. I can't find a place to buy them. Do You sell them? I,ve had mine for 12 years. Do I need to replace them?

Asked by: arrus2
If they are spinning, no, you do not need to replace them. When they get so old or warped, they won't spin at all on their own, that is when we recommend replacing them. You may want to order some to have on hand, however, as once we run out, we won't have any more parts. If I unplug the filter to replace some filer media will it just start up again when I plug it back in or do I need to add water to the filter?

Asked by: Stewartira
That depends on a number of factors, but in general, you will need to make sure the tank itself and the filter are both full with water. Additionally, if the filter has not been cleaned in a while, it may need that done as well.BREX

Is there a difference between the 400b and the 400 Pro Series? Size, performance? I know Petco sells the 400b while everybody else seems to have the 400 Pro Series.

Asked by: Boog
The current version is actually Emperor 400BD. The last change to the filter was back in early 2000s; around 2003. Packaging changes have occurred however, and we have certain package styles for different markets, which is what you are experiencing. The filter itself is the same.BREX

I have a a marine water filter my bio wheeler never worked won't spin bought it new should I take filter back or what and buy different brand hate buying stuff that don't work and where do I get the insert for the charcoal behind the filter

Asked by: Lisamike
There are several possible reasons why your bio wheel won't spin. Make sure the bio wheel bearings are in place properly, not missing, and do not have any buildup on them. You can clean them with a q tip and vinegar. Second, the water level in the tank should be to the top of the tank, not several inches below, so if this is a turtle tank or has evaporated a bit, you may need to only top the tank. Last, remove the impeller and check for any issues with it, and make sure it is seated properly. If you are unable to fix the issue, please call us directly at 1-800-322-1266. Our team would be more than happy to assist you.If you are referring to the filter cartridge, those are available through most major pet stores, local fish stores, and vendors online.BREX

Spray bar wheel is not moving, what do I do  ?

Asked by: Jsus
First, run a brush through the spray bar to make sure it is not clogged. That is the most likely scenario. Second, check to be sure you haven't lost the gray biowheel bearings that the bio wheel sits in. Last, but not least, take the filter off of the tank, take it completely apart, and thoroughly clean it, especially the impeller, intake tube, and area the impeller resides in.BREX

Asked by: bwingler
No, it is not required to put it on the box or in the instructions. However, it IS on the filter itself, the motor to be precise. 19.2 watts.BREX
