Rated 5 out of 5 by from 9 Years & Still Filtering! I have used this filter for a 75 gal. aquarium for 9 years! It has run 24/7 all that time with short period outages due to power failures and cleanings. The only part replaced was the impeller. (replacement made it more efficient and quieter)I ordered a new Emperor 400--after all, 9 years is a long life.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good filter just need added filtering I have bought this filter to work with my freshwater tank and love the filter for the quiet operation and the flow is great. After adding some fish I made the mistake of dropping the fish into the tank with the water from the store that I bought the fish from and now the tank has a small cloud in it (I will never do this again) I have attempted to look for a micron filter to put in the 400 to help clear up the water and I have not found one. I think this would be a great addition for this filter. other then ant being able to use this filter to clear up the water it is a great filter so far.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Emperor 400 I purchased an emperor 400 not to long ago , 2 days ago , the power went out and since then the filter hasn't been working right . I heard through the fish store these were top notch , but beginning to wonder, needs to pick back up after power outage. Must have put a gallon in filter last night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Emperor and Penguin only for me from now on Just got back into the hobby last year after about 20 years.Started with a 65 running Emperor 400. Loved how quickly I cycled the tank and how clear the water is. Second tank was a 40 breeder so I looked for an Emperor 280 to be able to use same Rite-Size E filter. Apparently the 280 is sadly discontinued. I remembered some other brands from the past so I picked one up. Long story short I'm replacing that ineffective filter today after about 6 months of cloudy water. I now have a 20 long, a 60 gallon, a 20 high and the first 65 all on Emperors or Penguins and they all are crystal clear and trouble free. The 40 breeder will have a Penguin today. Only gripe is that the Emperor 280 is no longer available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Support Saved Lives My Penguin Bio 350 developed an intermit grinding sound after 6 months that caused my Rabbit to thump so loud that the neighbors called 911, shots fired. After all measures failed, I called Customer support with new no-charge empeller assembly. Results: Rabbit and Fish are out of Therapy. Family has moved back in. Roy

Does Marineland make a Emperor 400 pro series. All the pictures show they do but when you call Marineland they say they never had a pro series. What do I believe, your pictures you publish on line or your Word from your personal?

Asked by: K9Marvin
At one time, we had a packaging with "Pro Series" on the side of it. It was not overly obvious. The current packaging has not had this description on it for a couple of years now. We are in the process of updating all of our websites at this time. The description makes no difference in the filter, it is only a packaging change. I apologize for any confusion this caused. BREX

I want to use 2 - 400's for 90 gallon saltwater reef/fish. Is this possible?

Asked by: Johnkevin
Yes, of course, why wouldn't it be? This filter moves a lot of water, and has plenty of space for any customization you may need to do, and comes with media containers to help you do it. BREX

My Emperor 400 is only 6 months old. How can I stop the terrible rattle it makes? I bought a new impeller and recommended filters and it still happens. Do I have to turn off my bubbles or completely rebuild it.

Asked by: Paula 68
If you have a bubbler near it, that's the issue. Bubbles traveling up the intake tube will always cause a terrible rattling sound. Sand is also a culprit of this type of noise, so if you have sand, put filter floss inside the bottom strainer. Otherwise, clean out the impeller whenever the noise occurs in case it is other debris, but it sounds like the issue will be the bubbler. BREX
