C-Series aquarium filter foam, Bio-Filter balls, media bags & so much more.

In order to create and maintain a clean, healthy aquatic environment, three stages of filtration are required: Mechanical, Chemical and Biological. Aquarium water is drawn into the canister and through a succession of stacked media trays for full-contact filtration -- virtually no bypass. The water is then returned to your aquarium, sparkling-clean and fish-healthy. And when it’s time to service your C-Series canister filter, all you do is push a lever, turn the key, and lift out the easy-access media trays.

 Available Media:

  • Carbon Filter Bags
  • Ceramic BIO-Filter Rings
  • Polishing Filter Pads
  • Filter Foam
  • BIO-Filter Balls

My name is Alexandre from Brazil and I bought a C-220 canister filter but I don´t know if it can work 24 hs per day, all days, is it possible ? Thanks in advance.

Asked by: alexmar
Yes, Alexandre, it is intended to run 24/7. You will need to take it apart and clean it every month or so, but otherwise, it should be in operation, non-stop. BREX

Thank you for your support of this Marineland product! Those are spare o rings. They fit on the nozzles that are on the underside of the valve block, and are to be used when the ones already installed, wear out. BREX

Will the premium activated carbon bags filter out the CO2 in my aquarium? If so, should I take out the carbon filter or is there something I can replace it with that will help both plants and fish?

Asked by: CJizzle
Thank you for your interest in this Marineland product! No, activated charcoal does not remove carbon from the water. Free oxygen will remove the carbon by aerating the aquarium. Make sure you are careful not to over-dose the CO2 though, as it can lead to harmful effects on your pH. BREX

Asked by: Keal
Thank you for your inquiry! No, this media is for a premium canister filter. The AquaTech 20-40 filter system is sold only through Wal-Mart and requires the Easy Change 3 cartridge sold through Wal-Mart as well. It will also take the Penguin Rite Size C cartridge, sold via most pet and fish stores. BREX

My C-220 stopped working. The motor hums but nothing else.We took it apart, cleaned everything, changed the impeller and it still won't work. It primes now and water goes in the intake tube, it goes on and then nothing else happens. Any Suggestions?

Asked by: BarbaraL
Swab out the area the impeller resides in and soak the impeller in distilled vinegar for 15 minutes. Also, take a q tip and clean out each of the 4 ports on the valve block as they may be clogged and preventing water from going through. You may also want to clean the vinyl tubing as well. BREX

What do i need to order for replacement media for the Marineland® C220 Canister Filter i am placing an order and i would like to get supplies (replacement media ) to last one year What should i order with my new filter system ?

Asked by: ozzyozbro
Enough carbon to be able to replace it once a month, and enough polishing cloths to replace them every 2-3 months. The sponges should last you at least a year, if not more, and the bio media like the bioballs should never need to be replaced. BREX

Would like to purchase O-rings. I hate to clean because EVERYTIME I do the aquarium leaks What else can I do. this is ridiculous. One of our aquariums (we have 6) is in a carpeted bedroom and I have to constantly clean the carpet. HELP!

Asked by: Kyle Wall
Replacing the large o ring around the motorhead, and the o rings on the valve block would most likely help. You should lubricate them with a thin smear of silicone lubricant after each maintenance as well, to keep the rings in good shape, flexible, and prevent them from shrinking. Clean the four nozzles of the valve block as part of your regular maintenance routine as well, as they do clog with sludge, and build up, and you can get water bypassing them and entering areas you would prefer it not enter. O rings are available on our website as well as many other websites, and we sell them through local fish stores as well. They generally come as an entire kit for around $15. BREX

what filer media can I use in my Penguin 100 BioWheel Power Filter

I am having an issue with water clarity I have steadily done 25% water changes about every 3-4 days but the water is still cloudy. What I want to know is once I do get this under control what media can I use in this filter to make sure this doesn't happen in the future?
Asked by: Allie
Depends on what is causing the cloudy water. Try using a different source of replacement water in case your water is actually the cause of the issue. Tap water can bring in algal blooms which start out milky white and eventually turn green, or hazy, cloudy water due to microscopic animals, or high levels of phosphates. Cloudy water can also be caused by lack of vacuuming long term or over feeding, over stocking, etc. I would recommend adding Tetra Safe Start Plus (another product of ours) to help clear the water. As for media, you can either add a second filter cartridge, bio beads, phosphate pad, Chemi Pure or other ion exchange resins. For these things, place them in the back of the filter box behind the cartridge. BREX

Marineland C360

There were not enough rubber seals for all the filter media trays in the canister C360. The seals fell off the round holes when I took the media trays out to clean them. Which tray does not have the rubber seal over the corner tube hole? I left the rubber seal off the top tray.

That would be the correct one. They all have rubber gaskets except for the top one. BREX

how often do i change each of my filters in the c-360 canister?

I need to know how often each filter is supposed to get changed.
Asked by: geckochic
You change your carbon once a month. You rinse the foam and polishing cloth at that time. The foam will last a long time, at least several months. The polishing cloth should be changed every month or two, depending on wear and tear. The biomedia rings and balls should never be changed. BREX

No idea which one you have as we have many different filter systems. If it is a power filter that hangs off the back of the tank, the name of it is on the cover. If it is a C series canister, it will have a white or silver tag on the motorhead with the model number. BREX

UV Filter Placement

Should my Turbo Twist sanitizer go on the intake line or output line? Seems on inlet side it would be working with gravity to avoid any restriction, while if on output line could result in back pressure on impeller? The distance from top of pump to top of water on my system is 30 inches. Thanks, Bruce
Asked by: BRJGuam
We generally recommend it be put on outlet side. This will restrict flow somewhat, but won't harm the canister itself. BREX

Very cloudy water. Extremely disappointed at Marineland Canister filler C360

I am very disappointed with the Mainland C360. I have a 50 gal fish tank I bought two c360 canister filler from you guys I am finding that the water of my fish tank turning cloudy I had the fish tank for more that 7 months now. I had change the polishing filter pads every month or sooner but I still have cloudy water. I am feeding my fish very lightly until I get to grow good biological bacteria in the ceramic rigs that the C360 came with to get rid of ammonia and other bad stuff for my fish. I change 25% the water every week. The cloudiness of the water goes away momentarily because of the 25% change of water but comes back right away again. I change the carbon activated and leave the ceramic rings and the bio balls that came with the filter. I find also that the filter is always having air inside. I have to stir the C 360 to get rid of the air bubbles but when I do that I can see more cloudy water pouring in to the fish tanks from the in pipe to the tank and that makes matters worse. I know that filter is completely seal. I also have under gravel filters in the same fish tank this old school method of filtering the water is doing a far better job that the C 360 because this under gravel filter does not poor cloudy water. I was thinking to buy a second fish thank to use the second C360 but I am having second toughs if bought the right filters for my fish tanks I am extremely disappointed these filters are not cheap!!!
Asked by: Bicho
I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your tank, but there is a lot of information missing from your commentary that would help us to determine what is going on.Cloudy water can be caused by a number of things. If you have had the undergravel filter for the entire time the tank has been set up, it is due to be removed and the tank cleaned under it. Your undergravel system could be the cause of the cloudy water. They lost their popularity when people realized that every 6-12 months you had to remove them from the tank and clean out all of the detritus that had accumulated under them. Cloudy water can also be due to hetertrophic bacteria or other microscopic animals that are brought in through tap water. They are harmless, but cause an annoyingly persistent cloudiness. Using Tetra Safe Start will normally clear this issue up. You mentioned that you do water changes, but not whether you vacuum or not. Vacuuming is necessary to help prevent a build up of detritus in the gravel. Although with the undergravel filter that cannot be avoided, it can be helped through the vacuuming. As for the air bubbles, make sure you have the tubing on the valve block so you cannot see ANY threads on the nozzles. If you can see the threads after tightening the hose nuts, your tubing is not on correctly. Assuming it is on correctly, call us and we will send you a new o ring. BREX
