Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall great and versatile product. I love this cartridge frame in that you can put practically whatever kind of media you'd like into it. It's simple and versatile. I've only used the PhosPure filter media in it so far and the only downside I have to the cartridge is that a lot of the smaller particles of this particular media fall through the slots. But the majority of it does stay in the cartridge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ammonia control As we have goldfish and a large algae eater, we needed something to put extra media in when we replaced the old filter to control ammonia. The original filter came with it and while there is a place to put one - not included in the filter we brought.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Very Useful Product. I love this refillable media cartridge. I use 2 of them in my Penguin Bio Wheel 200 in place of the regular cartridges. I was able to increase the biological aspect of the tank by putting in Aqua Clear Bio Max little ceramic rings. The other refillable cartridge I keep the white ammonia pebbles. I bought The Marineland Bonded Filter Pads that You cut to the cartridge size in place of the standard cartridges that came with the filter. There are so many options you can use for this filter with these refillable cartridges. My water is Crystal Clear. Here is how I do it: Closest to the wall I drop in the blue Pad. The first Cartridge has the Ammonia Stones in it. Place that in and the last cartridge with the Bio Max I place that closest to the tank. It's much cheaper to use these and it does a much better job. Thanks Marineland. I give this product 5 stars.

Questions concerning the Refillable Aquarium Filter Cartridge Frame & Bio Wheel

I have 2 Penguin Bio Wheel 350's. I am correct to assume, I will need 4 refillable cartridges (2 that will need charcoal added & 2 that will need polyfill added) to allow me to receive good filtration?
Asked by: Fishman863
No, the filter system's main filter media is the replacement cartridges. You can use two or four of these. If you wish to add refillable media containers, you would use two cartridges and two of the containers. The containers are to be used to customize your filter how you see fit. They are not a requirement. BREX

looking for refillable media cartridge to fit emperor 400 power filter. Unit take E size filter cartridge.

Asked by: Yardboy
The media containers do not take filter cartridges; they take loose carbon, ammo chips, bio beads, etc. They are for customizing your filtration system. http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Filtration-Products-and-Skimmers/Emperor-Parts/Media-Container-for-Emperors-PF280B-PF280BD-PF400B-PF400BD.aspx BREX

Can I use a Refillable Aquarium Filter Cartridge Frame instead of the regular cartridge in a Penguin bio-wheel filter, size C?

Asked by: gladys
Hello Gladys, Yes, you can use the refillable filter cartridge frame instead of the C size filter, with the purchase of a filter medium to go inside the frame. I have used both the carbon-only and the carbon/crystals combination, hoping to clear up a nitrite problem. This did not help with the nitrite problem, but it did help with removing the odor from the water and extend the useful lifetime of my size C filters.

container for penguin 350

I only put 1 oz for container no more? Is possible put in one diamond white and in the another container diamond blend ? I think 1 oz is to low or I'm not understand your last answer. Thanks
Asked by: adriangur
You can use whatever amount you wish to use, as long as the container will stay closed. 1 oz is the minimum recommended as it is what we place in each of our filter cartridges. You can also use whatever combination of Diamond Blend, White Diamond, or Black Diamond that you wish. There is no right or wrong way of mixing them, it is based on your tank's needs. BREX

I bough 2 media containers for penguin 350

I bough 2 media containers for my penguin 350, how many black diamond . white diamond or diamond blend I need to put on in for 29 gal tank. Thanks
Asked by: adriangur
You can fill one side of each container if you like; or just place 1 oz in each container. There is no formula for the amount of carbon to use per gallon of water, that I have ever ventured across. However, the general guideline is one oz per filter cartridge. BREX

Asked by: jac64
No, that is for the Penguin 200 and 350 filters. You need PR2150 for the Emperor filters. It does not replace the cartridges, you use it in conjunction with them. Fill containers like this with extra carbon, zeolite, or biobeads, to customize your tank. BREX

Asked by: Fish9518
I am not sure why our system is set this way, but I believe it is because we have not been selling direct for very long, and are working the kinks out as we go. I have forwarded your question to the website moderator. Try again later, as she will most likely increase the quantity allowed, if it is possible. We are in the process of updating our site, so this issue is one we are addressing. B-Rex

Adding other media to BioWheel 150B filter

How can I add other media to the BioWheel 150B filter?
Asked by: Mike2341
The easiest way is to use the media containers we sell separately for them. You can fill them with biobeads, filter floss, carbon, ammo chips; a number of different things will work in them. You can also use women's nylon stockings to fill with media, and place in the back of the filter. Just be careful to not overfill them of the filter will have water flowing past the intake tube, instead of through the front spillway. BREX

The refillable cartridges allow you to customize your filtration. You can fill them with carbon, ammo chips, bio beads, polyfill, any number of things. Polyfill is the material you are referring to and it can be bought in bags at your local fish store. It will typically be white. BREX
