Black Diamond® Premium Activated Carbon eliminates discoloration, odors, and impurities...and keeps on doing it long after other carbons quit.

Heat-activated bituminous coal-based Black Diamond granules are specially sized and far more efficient than inferior coconut, wood or peat-based carbons. Premium Black Diamond works as much as twice as fast as the competition.

I noticed a warning label "harmful if inhaled" i was planning on using this carbon in a filter attachment used for smoking tobacco. So my question is if this is unsafe in a smoking application?

Asked by: Jer43211
If you rinse it 1st to remove the dust then there shouldnt be any danger of inhaling the dust right? You are also supposed to rinse it prior to use in aquarium applications as well correct?

Can premium activated carbon be applied while fishes are in the aquarium? What if the fishes eat the carbon? Is it harmless to all species of fishes. How much should I apply to a 55 gallon tank

Asked by: Sajji
Well, you don't pour it into the tank, it goes into your filter system and should be placed in a media container, sock, mesh bag or some other filter container. Questions such as how much carbon is needed in a tank and how often it should be changed can only be answered definitively by using it in your aquarium. This is because every aquarium is different and how they are maintained is different. Because of the individual differences in tanks, these guidelines are, at best, educated guesses. BREX

The two descriptions are synonymous. However, we have never tested it for such use, and cannot advise on it. BREX

Is this product intended for use with the Rite-Size cartridges? Will it extend the life of the blue fuzz? I have tried rinsing but with low water pressure it does not work.

Asked by: Bluetulip
It is what comes in the Rite Size cartridges. However, the cartridges are sealed so you cannot change out carbon in them, unfortunately. The blue mechanical media should easily last a month, but the carbon is used up in that time, and the cartridge should be changed. BREX

How much of your carbon should I use to remove medication from a 90 gallon tank? (I estimate 85 gallons of water in the system.) I plan to put it in an in-tank filter and run it only for a day, just to remove levamisole after a 75% water change.

Asked by: Ginger66
It is typically recommended that you use around 2 cups of carbon per 55 gallons. However, you may have to use less or more than this amount depending on your filtration system and the quality of the carbon. Most H.O.B. filter systems use much less for day to day filtering, and will not be able to handle this much carbon. BREX

Does the carbon need ot be washed first?

I just got the 40 oz container of Marineland Premium Activated Carbon. I was hoping for instructions (such as: if the charcoal needs to be washed before use) but, the writing on either side of the package is not in English. Couldn't find an answer in the Q and A section either so, can you tell me if this charcoal can just be used right out of the box or if it needs to be washed first before use. Thanks

1/2 of carbon falls through holes on Emperor 400 media container

I am confused. The Media containers on my emperor 400 look as though you are supposed to pour the carbon directly into them. There are divider baffles in the cartridge seemingly to keep the carbon from clumping on the bottom. However, after filling one cartridge with Black Diamond media to just below the baffles on the bottom half and rinsing, half of the carbon just washed out the holes. So I checked the owners manual and I apparently did everything right. Am I missing something?
Asked by: Earldw
You do pour it directly into the media container. You should lay it flat and fill it from end to end, to just below the top edges of the container, close it, then lightly rinse it for about 5 seconds to remove dust. If you rinse too long, you will cause the carbon to break down. BREX

Hi, What is the amount of activated carbon needed for 100 G saltwater aquarium. I use reactor for Carbon.

Asked by: Reza
Hello Reza, Unfortunately, that amount varies. I have seen recommendations of 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons of water to 1/2 cup per 50 gallons of water. There does seem to be an agreement that it should be changed monthly, and added slowly so maybe start with 1 tablespoon per 20 gallons of water for a few weeks, then slowly increase it with each filter change to 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons.
