How do you use it? I'm trying to add more water to my tank but I know it has chlorine and stuff so how would I use this to take all the nasty stuff out

Asked by: gwzmnem
You use a water conditioner such as Marineland Aquarium Conditioner to do that for you. With carbon, you add it to a mesh bag of some sort or media container, and place it in your filter system. It removes heavy metals, discolorations, odors, and chemicals like medications for you. BREX

How to use for a 60 gallon tank

Asked by: John B
Size of tank does not matter, you simply add it to a mesh bag of some sort and place it in the filter. Generally, 1/4 cup per 100 gallons. BREX

Can I use this in my filter after pouring in a bottle of Tetra Safe Start? I heard that the "crystals" this has to eliminate ammonia is removing the ammonia the beneficial bacteria in TSS need in order to grow.

Asked by: sfsdf2313123
If you are using SafeStart Plus, you don't need zeolite as well. The TSS Plus will take care of the ammonia. However, you can use this product once the ammonia level has been reduced to keep it down without adding more of the SafeStart Plus. This product will not remove ammonia fast enough to starve out the bacteria. BREX

I have a gold fish pond in back yard. Approx, about 1100 gal with a sand filter system. I have purchased the ammonia crystals, wondering if i can just add the crystals to the sand?

Asked by: Kaye
It would be best to place them in a mesh bag of some sort and then place them in the filter so that you can remove them periodically and put new ones in. These need to be replaced at least once a month. BREX

how do you use this product? is it used gravel in the bottom of the aquarium. For an new aquarium? We empty 3 jars of this product as gravel and the bottom is completely black.

Asked by: clubpain
Hi clubpain. This product is meant to go in filter or media cartridges to help remove chemical impurities and ammonia. It should not be poured into the bottom of the tank as substrate. As it will need to be changed on a monthly basis similar to filter cartridges.

What I mean is can water filtered through zeolite chips be consumed by humans. Not humans eating the zeolite chips.

Can your premium carbon ammonia neutralizing blend be used for human drinking water? Don't be afraid to tell the truth please. I know the bituminous coal can but I don't know what the white chunks are. I'm sure if I looked good I can find out.

Asked by: Broham
The white chips are zeolite. We have not tested the product for human consumption and therefore, cannot recommend it as such. BREX

Can this be used in a Saltwater Reef tank?

Asked by: Willy36
Most reef keepers do not believe in using carbon in their tanks as they think they will pull certain elements out of the water. However, it is safe for use, it just isn't really necessary in saltwater tanks, like it is in freshwater ones. BREX

How do u use it? Do u need a bag plus the media filter or just pour it into the media filter? If you just pour it in, wouldnt the content spill into the bottom or the filter or tank?

Asked by: Vena
Thank you for your interest in this Marineland product! You definitely have to provide something to contain the carbon. I'm not sure what bag or what media filter you are referring to, but we have media containers for our Penguin and Emperor filters available, for example. Otherwise, a nylon stocking will also work. Hi, I have 60 gallon fowlr,  Marineland 220 Canister, 2 powerheads, 60lbs lr, i small o trigger and a clown, plus urchin.  Will be adding 3 or 4 fish soon.  What carbon should I use, how much and how often replaced.  there is carbon and then the blend

Asked by: Rogier
Thank you for supporting Marineland products! We would recommend using two of the carbon bags for the 220 model. The carbon used in the bags or pouches is the Black Diamond. You would want to change these at least monthly. By the way, we do not recommend adding 3 or 4 fish at once. It is best to add no more than one fish every 30 days to avoid issues. BREX

Hi, I have Marineland Penguin Power Filter (50-70 gallon). How to use this in the filter? Do I need to place this in a seperate bag/pouch and place it in filter? Please help.

Asked by: BALU
The Rite Size C cartridge already has this carbon in it, and you can place four of them in the filter system, two on each side. If you feel you need additional carbon, you might want to buy media containers for the filter. Here is a link to those on our site: http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-filtration-filter-media/aquarium-carbon-ammonia-neutralizing-crystals/aquarium-filter-cartridge-frame.aspx. BREX

I have a 20 gallon aquarium and it is showing high levels of ammonia. I bought p. carbon ammonia form m. and a filter bag to put the carbon on it. But the carbon doesn't have any instructions and I don't how to use it. I have penguin biowheel 150  Filter.

Asked by: Serena5
First, I would do a partial water change which in itself will remove a portion of the ammonia. If you remove 30% of the water, you will remove approximately 30% of the ammonia. Second, in regards to Diamond Blend, there is no tried and true formula for how much carbon should be used per gallon of water, etc. I would recommend placing approximately 1/4 cup in the filter bag, and then rinsing it LIGHTLY for just several seconds. Place it in front of the filter, closest to the tank. You can use as much of it as you like, just as long as it does not cause the filter to overflow around the intake tube. For best results, change it weekly. One other note - if your ammonia is high, your tank is either new or imbalanced. After the water change, let the tank settle down, and then add SafeStart Plus, a cultured bacterial product under our other brand, Tetra. This will help finish removing the ammonia and re-establish your biological filter. BREX

No, it gets added to the filter system. You can place it in a media container, a cartridge bag if you have one that opens, or use the toe of a nylon stocking. Remove and replace it at least once a month. BREX

Asked by: gluckie15223
Good morning, Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, we have media container that the activated carbon would be placed into our filters to be used properly. If you have a hang off the back filter ( either Emperor or Penguin series) then you can find the refillable media container for sale on our website. Also, if you have an older style Magnum or the new Magnum Polishing Internal, included with the filter is a carbon media container which would be filled with the carbon to remove discoloration or odor from the water that is being filtered. How do you use it

Asked by: Peps
You would need a media container or sock that you place it into then place it in your filter. Your filter needs to have enough room as well. It depends quite a bit on the brand and style of filter you own, but you basically rinse it, add the amount you need for your purpose to a media container or sock, and place it in the filter somewhere in addition to the other media. Does zeolite eliminate ammonia on contact? Or do I need to remove the media and replace with new to eliminate the ammonia from the system?

Asked by: Ajack
Not on contact, no, it takes a bit of time, but yes, zeolite or ammo chips will remove ammonia. Replace zeolite and carbon on a monthly basis, at a minimum. The fresher they are, the more they will benefit the tank. BREX

I saw good reviews of this product, so I bought some for my wife's 10 gallon aquarium. When it arrived, there were no instructions and the sides of the jar are in Spanish with nowhere to push 1 for English. Where can I get instructions for this product?

Asked by: flip
There are no directions that come with this product. The Spanish you see is a description of the product. Basically, how you use it depends on your needs. For a 10 gallon aquarium, half an ounce to one ounce would be more than enough. You place it in a mesh bag or other container suitable for your filter, rinse it, and then put it in the filter box, just like plain carbon. Use it in conjunction with your regular media. BREX

I seem to be unable to locate any instructions on how to use this product, does it need to be washed. How long can I expect it to last (  compared to regular activated carbon ) at least some kind of basic information would be extremely helpful !

Asked by: Cricket
In general, you should always lightly rinse any carbon to remove carbon dust. By lightly rinse, I mean run it under water for a few seconds. Carbon is best replaced frequently, but can be used for up to four weeks. BREX

Does Premium Carbon Ammonia Neutralizing Blend also neutralize NO2 and NO3?

Have NO2/NO3 raise after cycling my 50 gallons tank and I was wondering if this product can help in any effective way.
Asked by: Frade
No, it only works on NH3/NH4. Aquarium salt will reduce NO2, but only water changes will reduce NO3. If this is a freshwater tank, Easy Balance Plus will help, over time. If it is a salt water tank, Natural Nitrate Reducer will reduce NO3 fast. BREX

How do I get this Diamond Blend integrated into my aquarium?

I just purchased a Penguin 350 Power Filter for my 46 gallon tank and I have a jar of this Diamond Blend but I'm not sure how to integrate this blend mixture into my aquarium. Right now I have the 2-cartridges installed in my filter that were in the box when I purchased it. Do I need to purchase additional cartridges & add the Diamond Blend to the new cartridges and install them in the 2-empty media slots in the filter? How much of the diamond blend do I need for a 46 gallon tank? How often do I replace it? Thanks
Asked by: tuto
You can purchase Penguin Media Containers to place the Diamond Blend into then slide them into the slots. Or you can use something like a nylon stocking to put the DB into then push it into the area between the cartridges and the filter box. I would recommend approximately 1 tablespoon on either side of the filter box. BREX
