72x18 Monterey stand, sump size?

I am interested in putting a 40 gallon long aqueon inside the stand as a sump. It's dimensions are 48x12x17. Will I be able to fit it through the doors, or does this stand have a big enough side door to get it in? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Asked by: Ludwigia73
This size stand does not have side doors, only stands that are 24" deep have side doors. Here are some dimensions for you that should help. Interior: 69.750 L 15.750 W 31.000 H Door openings: 15.675 W 25.750 H BREX

Will this stand fit my aquarium?

I have an aquarium that measures 60.5" x 18.5" at its base. Would this fit the 60x18 stand?
Asked by: Mike24
Depends on whether it is our tank or not. Look for a white or orange sticker, about 3" long, that states "Built by...." This is usually glued between the glass and the frame, but may be behind the overflow if you have a marine tank. If you find that sticker, then yes, it will.

How easily can you modify the Monterey Canopy?

I am looking at buying a 150 gallon high and I like the Monterey Canopy, but the closed top causes issues, as does the low ceiling given that I have a heavy duty metal halide fixture (2x 250w + 4 T5HO actinics) that puts off a lot of heat. I know the canopy is "vented" but I would need a chiller for this to work properly as it is currently created. Is it possible to cut a hole in the top of the Monterey so that it's an open top canopy style instead of the closed type (i.e. more ventilation and greater distance between the lights and the tank)? I have the hanging mounts so attachment of the lighting is not an issue. Can you think of any structural issues this might cause with the canopy or have you heard of anyone doing this? Lastly, how tall is the canopy for the 48x24 tank size? Thanks! ~Frank
Asked by: FrankP
Hi Frank, First, please note that this voids the warranty. However, that being said, I spoke with the product manager and the head engineer. Here are their comments: "I agree. They could simply make the vent opening larger. I would tend to keep the perimeter of the boards fastened to the sides and use a jigsaw to cut both sides of the vent to make it larger, but not remove any boards in their entirety. That would help it remain more stable." Head Engineer "I'm thinking they could probably rip that board down and make that lengthwise opening wider to improve ventillation, but if they completely remove the boards from the top, it would leave only the front and back supports, and I think the canopy might come apart when they move it." Product Manager to Head Engineer The height of the canopy is 11.5". BREX

Do you have a picture of your Monterray stand in red oak? I only see Black on your Monterrey web page.

Asked by: BillM
No, we sure don't. If you visit the Ventura stand page, however, there is a picture of that stand in red oak which should give you an idea of the color. It is by far, my favorite stain. Looks a lot like a dark cherry. BREX

No, it would not properly support a 55 gallon's pressure points since the 55 is more narrow. BREX

use of marine plywood?

I have been told that you use marine plywood in your aquarium stands and that this is a huge plus as that plywood is quite expensive and of high quality; I see reference in your site only of water resistant wood...do you, in fact, use marine plywood or do you use treated wood designed for aquariums?
Asked by: searcher
It depends on the stand. The Monterey is indeed made out of a marine plywood called Okoume Plywood. BREX

A 75 gallon tank with Corner-Flo. Matching Monteray stand. Plenty of room for a sump inside. But only way to place it is to drop from the top. Cannot remove/maintain sump with tank on top! Modify stand? Suggestion please.
