Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very unique product I bought this light because of the low profile, natural lighting effects, ease of use, and my positive experiences with other Marineland products (filters, tanks, underwater lighting & bubble wands, heaters, etc.) I have bought good products from a few other companies, but I tend to gravitate toward Marineland products, as I know, from past experience, that I am getting top of the line products that last, perform well, have great features, and look great. I know that once I bring home a Marineland product, I'm not going to be disappointed. I know that the product is going to enhance the tank without taking the focus off the fish, not to mention ease of use. It's not bulky or heavy, and allows unobstructed view from the top of the tank for those who have glass tops. Plus, it makes it a lot easier to perform water changes and other maintenance to the tank, because you don't have to move a bulky light hood every time you need to gain access. I like that there are different options for mounting it- a deep groove to slide the inside lip (of the upper black tank rim) into and suction cups that allow it to be mounted to the tank glass. The light angle can be changed by turning the built-in knob at one end of the bar. The only thing that I would like to see in the future is an option to replace the light tube part. Other than that, this light is THE answer to eliminating extra bulk and creating a streamlined, elegant aquarium

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Had problems; Marineland replaced the unit immediately. I wrote a review which wasn't flattering and was contacted by Marineland to review the problems I experienced. Because the original unit wouldn't adjust the lighting down I was sent a replacement. The new unit adjusted as desired and is now a supplement to the main lighting, which is the 48-60 Reef Capable with timer. The extra lighting is a real plus in my 75 gallon reef system although it is designed for smaller aquariums. The concern shown by Marineland for satisfying their customers was in my opinion, superb.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Trouble with instructions. I bought this product to supplement the lighting in my reef system. The clips didn't fit so suction cups were used and I have to 'refit' regularly when the lights detach and float away. Neither could I redirect the lights downward so they light forward causing rapid algae growth on the front viewing of the aquarium. If I cannot correct these issues I will remove the system from my tank.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great Bought this product for my 10 gallon tank, and it works great. the installation was a breeze and like how you can angle the leds and how easy you can switch from the blues and whites. only down side is the suction cup for the switch doesnt stick well, maybe that is on my part. But overall it is a good product

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks and works great for a very short time period. This product looks great but, unfortunately after a short period of time the LEDs will fail. Once one failes they all start to fail and there is nothing you can do about it. I bought 2 sets of lights less then then 6 months ago. I only had them running day light 8hrs a day. I am under the hours that these lights are good for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Retrofit your Regent/Eclipse Marineland hood light with one of these! My florescent light stopped working on my old Eclipse all-in-one filtration/hood system and it wasn't just bulb problem. Someone above suggested this product as a retrofit. I tried it. It's amazing, I just opened up the existing plastic light cover, removed the florescent bulb and this LED bar magically fits right in the slot where the bulb goes. There is enough tension from the electric wire plug on the left that it wedges in there and stays. I then replaced the plastic light cover and snapped the holding pins to lock the cover down and whola! Not only did I resolve my broken light problem but I upgrade to lower cost, better light LED.I highly recommend others try this, even if your existing florescent bulb and light still work, this is worth the investment to upgrade as you get more light and you can select between day and night mode.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does not hook onto the frame of all tanks I like the lights, they're nice and bright and my tank looks great. But, and this is a big but. They will not hook onto the frame of my tank and stay in place without using the suction cups to hold them. I have an older tank and when we clipped the light on the frame if fell right off because it was so loose. The only way I can keep it hooked on the frame is to use the suction cups that are provided to hold them up. It was a pain in the rear to get the suction cups stuck on the side of the tank so that the light is resting on the frame. Even the clips for the cord will not stay on the frame, I had to tape them in place. Yes I am keeping the light because I like it but I'd say they are made for new tanks with heavier frames, if you have an older tank be prepare to rig it to stay in place.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very good product but adding an automated day/night feature would make it a great product!! Light output is impressive and spectrally suited for planted or unplanted tanks (6500K day/450nm night)...I'm also happy with the way it brings out cichlid colors. I have used several of these units in the 21" length to modernize older fluorescent Perfecto hoods. They work great for this and I recommend them totally!...the old hoods are easily gutted of the old fluorescent fixture, ballast and remaining small components, and the LED fixture is installed instead (easily and safely doable by non-electricians). One downside is that the day/night switch is (only) manually controlled...so there is NO WAY to automate tank lighting for day/night. You can certainly plug (wallwort) power supply into a timer, but timer would only switch power on to whatever (day OR night) setting the switch was set to. A definite product improvement I can see is to build in a timer into the unit and include a feature where day and night are BOTH programmable. I'd pay extra for that (hey Product Improvement Department, are you reading this?). Cheers!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from purchased 2 of the 21inch fix and both are broke I have 2 of the 21inch hidden lights.... They have some lights that are broken and won't even light up. Very disappointing considering they are water proof they get full of static after only a few months. My tank is so dim. I hope they can replace them...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for the price I bought this light after seeing it online today. It has a great output and light quality for the size/price. Also as an added benefit of having it inside the tank is theres no light loss or dispersion from having it over glass. Also as a side note my 50g tank is a cube tank so i have light penetration issues for my plants from the tanks depth. This light acheives superior light penetration in to the tank than comparable lights i already have. And the ability to angle the light allows plant access to light not acheiveable from directly overtop.6500k at 400 lumens. Outdoes some of my more expensive lighting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! I have used an Eclipse II hood for years, repairing the florescent light a couple of times. The last time it failed (last winter), I treated myself to a new hood. The florescent had been redesigned with the ballast in the plug. That failed in two months. GREAT Customer Service at Marineland let me know they had stopped production at the end of '12, and gave me various warranty options. I accepted the offer of the Hidden LED System. When it arrived, like others have said, I removed the old light and the LED snapped onto a rail. I LOVE IT. I really enjoy the Moon (blue) feature. This allows me to continue to use my Eclipse hood--a good option for me because ithe tank is in the LR and visible from 3 sides (and because the hood filtration is silent).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Light! But the instructions suck. My wife bought this light and brought it home. I opened the box and tried to comprehend the instructions. They are terrible and confusing. Only by reading the outside of the box did I discover that the light is submersible, etc. The only way to fully understand the product is to watch the installation video on the internet. If the manufacturer would only spend a few pennies more to fully explain the product on the instruction sheet, this would be an absolutely superb product. It is easy to use, once you get all the instructions, and provides excellent lighting options. I highly recommend the light, but not the instructions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing light output, works much better than the fluorescent light it replaced that was in my eclipse hood It makes my aquarium look like Hawaii on a sunny day! love the color, very easy installation, hopefully it works for more than a few months, much easier than modifying starter caps and soldering together fixes for original light!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this light Installed the light in my eclipse3 hood as another reviewer suggested. It was easy to install and I am so happy to have a great led light for my hood. I hope Marineland continues to carry this light. It is perfect. I bought the 21". Wish they offered a 13 or14 inch light for my smaller aquarium. Buy it - you won't be disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It broke in less then a month I bought this for my 10 Gal salt tank and with-in a month it no longer worked. It seems to have a faulty seal and it has water in it. I tried to contact Marineland twice via email and did not get any response. So I have to give this 1 star but if I had a choice I'd give it no stars. It would have been nice if Marineland customer service would have responded to the complaint and fixed it but they didn't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this new lighting system I bought a little while back the single bright LED bank for my 29 gal. The lighting was nice but seemed a little low compaired to what i'm used to seeing in the "live" store tanks. So, I bought this hidden system to add to what I had. What a beautiful differance. I now have a combined Lumins of 860. With the forest of live aquatic plants that thrive the light, this will be great. I am sure it will help premote fish color/growth too. In summary, it makes a great stand alone system or to add to lighting. It also took only 8 minutes to hook up completely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely great retrofit in Eclipse 3 hoods!!! I struggled for a very long time as to how to get LED lighting in my Eclipse system 3 hood that comes standard with flourescent lighting. I saw this in Petsmart and went ahead and purchased. To my delight it made a super easy retrofit in the hood! I simply unscrewed the light fixture from the hood and this one slid right onto the inside of the hood. You cannot see it at all and the 21" size lights up my 37 gallon tank beautifully!

Can these LED lights work on fresh water plants? I want to get the 10 gallon LED kit (colorwheel) and am not sure if the plants I put in for the fish will die... I definitely want live plants and this will be an entry tank until I can buy a bigger tank

Asked by: Ironrey
Well, for a 10 gal it will be fine. K values aren't a good guide for plant growth. You just want to be sure it's in the 6500K area as starting point. The PAR values are critical (essentially gives you penetration capability through water) and these are pretty low for depths more than about 8-10" if you want lush plant growth.

Can the 10 gallon hidden led fit a 5 1/2 gallon tank. It says on the box "up to 10 gallons".

Asked by: JudgeBert
Hi JudgeBert, There is the Hidden LED Lighting System, and the Hidden Led LightStick. The first comes in two lengths, 17" and 21" and will not fit a tank smaller than 10 gallons. The second one is the Hidden LED Lightstick for up to 10 gallons and is 8" long. It will definitely fit a 5 gallon tank which is 16" long. BREX

I do not know of any way it could have turned itself back on. In regards to turning it, the knob may have been blocked or the light itself may not have been properly inserted. Without inspecting it, I don't know if you have broken it or not, but probably not. BREX

I have the Marineland 21" led hidden strip light. I'm not sure how to work out the watts. I recently bought a 20 gallon tank with Tropical 'medium care' plants and they recommend 0.5 watts per gallon. Is this light going to cut it? Thanks

Asked by: Brigz
Wattage is only a measure of energy and does not tell you if you will be providing the right amount of light for your plants or not. You need Kelvin - 6500 K to be exact, for medium to high light plants. This light is 6500 Kelvin. As for wattage, it would be 16 watts, and 550 lumens. All of this information is on the product page under the tab, "Product Manuals and Instructions". I have a 75 gallon tank. Sixty inches long 14 inch wide, do you have anything I could use

Asked by: Jeffrey D
Thank you for your interest in Marineland products! A 75 gallon is typically 48" long x 18" deep. The Hidden LED comes in two sizes: 17" and 21". If your tank is 60" long, we would recommend two of the 21" lights, and possibly an additional 17" one, depending on whether you wish these to be supplemental or the main source of light for your tank. Do these clip to front or back of the frame? What is "suggested " method for best lighting

Asked by: Dleal
Thank you for your interest in this Marineland product! They can clip to either the front or back; it totally depends on your set up and your personal tank needs. If you have HOB filters, you may not be able to place them on the back of the tank. We typically recommend the front of the tank as this keeps them hidden from view, all you see is a well lit tank. I purchased the 60 gal. 24x48x12 as a package including the LED light. It works well, but I would like more light. Is that ok, and what would you suggest? Also-- The tank is only 12" deep. Front to back, it's off by 1/8". Is that ok?

Asked by: herby
Yes, you can certainly add more light if you wish. Keep in mind the type of bio tope you are setting up, and that brighter light may mean more algae, if you are not keeping live plants or corals, live rock, etc. We round the dimensions, so the actual dimensions of this tank are 48-15/32 x 12-27/32 x 24-3/4 but that includes the frame, so the 1/8" is fine. If you are looking to simply buy some LED light sticks that go inside the tank, the Hidden Led ones will clip to the front of the tank - it's a bit tricky but they do. The Hidden Accent LED Strip Light with all blue lights is rated for corals. It is 460 nm and 17" long. However, you would still need a 10,000 - 14,000 Kelvin white light as well. I would recommend the Reef LED Strip Light for this purpose. It also has blue light, but it combines both types of lights. It is low profile, and comes in lengths from 18" to 48". BREX
