I recently purchased a used 50 gallon tank it measures 48x12.5 outside and 47x11.5 inside at the top I'm looking for a good with a light that will fit what do you recommend?

Asked by: Olbrjam1
Sounds like a standard 55 gallon which manufacturers round to 48" x 12" x 20". There are a number of hood options, depending on the manufacturer of the tank. It also depends on what type of inhabitants you plan to house. BREX

How many bulbs and watts does the 20 gal (24") light hood have? Does it light the entire length of the 24" tank enough for average light plants?

Asked by: Edde
1 bulb of 18" in length. Wattage is 15 watts. The bulb that comes with standard hoods is not suitable for live plants, and should be replaced with one that is if you are intending on having a planted tank. You need 6500K and these are only 5500K. BREX

I bought the 12" x 24" LED hood for a 20-gallon tank. I have since upgraded to a 55-gallon tank, and the hood fits perfectly over 1/2 of the tank, leaving an open-air half. However, I need the longer hinge clips now, which I originally threw away. Help!

I have the 56 column aquarium. It's missing any form of hood/canopy/lid. Will one of these fit?

Asked by: Newtothis
You need item # 34300, which is a 30 x 18 inch glass canopy and then you would select the type of lighting you need/want for your tank separately. BREX

Do your tops fit inside the tank rim, or on top of the tank. I am looking for one that sits on the rim, not inside.

Asked by: danny49
Inside, on the rim, which is why they are called recessed. They will only fit our tanks, however. Look for a sticker on your tank with a built by code on it. BREX

My current hood measures 11 1/2 X 23. Do you have a good that fits?

Asked by: Richherk
Sounds like you have a 20 high aquarium. You need a 12 x 24 hood (all manufacturers round to the nearest whole number). We do have hoods, as well as glass canopies available through retail pet stores, and www.thatpetplace.com as well as other vendors. BREX

My tank has a footprint of 48.5" x 18.5". It has two openings with lips that accept glass tops or hoods that measure 22.25" x 16.5". Will the 48" full hood rest in these two 22.25" long openings? I am aware the hood is only 12" wide.

Asked by: tortugagunther
No, this hood will not fit your tank. Sounds like you have a 75 or 90 gallon aquarium and need a 48 x 18 glass canopy. BREX

Have your 20" recessed full hood, but light apparently is insufficient for 10 gal planted. What's max fluorescent wattage it can take? Cabomba is browning except for top few inches.

Asked by: john1234
One fluorescent bulb is never going to be enough for cabomba which is a high light plant. You would need at least 3-4 watts per gallon if you are still using the old style lighting method. So 30-40 watts, and the maximum for that hood is around 15 watts. The wattage of the bulb that comes with it is the maximum it can handle. When using fluorescent lighting rather than metal halide or LED, most hobbyists have to use at least 2 or 3 strips on the tank. Add a 17" Hidden LED to the tank and be done with it. It provides enough on its own. BREX

Good afternoon; I purchased 2 of the 24" Deluxe fluor hoods for my 55 gallon tank and they did not fit. What is the difference between the deluxe fluorescent hoods and the recessed hoods? I am trying to find a hood that can hold a 24" UV-B bulb

Asked by: KRobertson
Our hoods are called Recessed Full Hoods, or Universal Hoods. We do not sell any called Deluxe Hoods, per our various catalogs back to 2013. Also, our hoods typically take a 18" bulb in a 24" hood. BREX

I need a complete hood and light for my 48" x 12.5" tank. There a split bar in the middle and there are 2 hoods right now at 23.25 X 11.25" each. Do you have a replacement for this figment? If so, I prefer led lights to go with them. Thank you very much!

Asked by: Rick Wang
You have a 55 gallon tank Rick and the only plastic full hood we make comes with fluorescent lighting. For LED, we would recommend the 33480 glass canopy with a LED strip light of some sort on top. Which version depends on which type of animals you are keeping, etc. The LED strip lights come in a 48-60" length. BREX

They would be sold separately. We make a glass canopy, item 34300. As for the light, that depends on what you need. We have a wide array of LED lights from average daylight to reef light. You can view them here: http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-lighting/LED-Aquarium-Lighting.aspx. BREX

I just bought a 40 gallon fishtank and i need a hood with a light. What size should I buy. Thank you for your time.

Asked by: DeniseR
Depends on which 40 gallon you bought. We manufacture a 40 economy, 40 breeder, and 40 high. The most commonly purchased is the 40 breeder which is 36 x 18. We do not make a full hood for this size; only a glass canopy. We do make full hoods for the other two sizes, as all of our hoods fit our tanks that are rated at 12" wide. BREX

I have a 60 gallon tank that requires 2 hooded light lids. They each measure 23 inches but I can only find 24 inch hoods. A single large hood is out of the question due to the built in lid divider on the tank. Am I measuring the hood size wrong? Thanks

Asked by: Karend
Assuming this is our 60 gallon tank, it would take our 48 x 13 full hood, item 75485. You can also purchase a glass canopy, 33480, for the tank, along with one of the LED strip lights that we manufacture. With our hoods and canopies, we round the measurements up, so if the tops are 23" long, this is because they fit inside the frame, but we include the measurement of the frame and round up to 24". I need a hood that will fit a tank with an inner lip that is 19.24x9.5" or will cover 10x20" over the top. I need to cover it such that a cat can't drink from any openings. Need to be able to light fully. =\

A 20" x 10" hood is just a standard 10 gallon tank hood. You should be able to get those most any fish or pet store that specialized in aquatics. BREX
