Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needed to replace pump I just bought a replacement pump. I removed all of the parts from the old pump to install into my new pump. The impeller doesn't fit on the new pump. Why is this? The whole in the new pump where the impeller fits down into looks larger. Do I just need to buy a new impeller?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works though would have taken a lot less time to set up if it had directions included. Shipping price is really high, but product works well. As mentioned previously, it took a while to set up and I had to call my local pet store to troubleshoot installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the little pump that could 5 stars! My original pump has run faithfully night and day for the last 15 years. When it quit, I thought, right. That's the end of my tank, then. No way they still make this model. And if they do, it'll be BIG BUCKS. But no, I was way wrong. Still have my pump, for less than $20. Why isn't every business run like this? THESE GUYS ROCK!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Unusual failure Thank goodness I followed the instructions to make sure I had a drip loop between the tank and the wall outlet. After about a year, a small crack developed in the wire insulation about 12" from the pump. Its too small to see with the naked eye. There must also be a crack in the motor insulation, as I have water weeping out of the wire onto my countertop, about one drop every 5-10 seconds. I've unplugged the pump motor and that slowed down but didn't stop the flow of water - the drip loop is still below the water level of the tank, so this is expected.Despite this failure, I would buy it again. It's a great little pump/filter for my fry tank.

She was so helpful and offered to ship any other needed parts for free. Turns out, I did not need any other parts. She identified the part I needed and that I could use the old one. Works like a charm now! Thank you Rosemary!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A part we really needed This is the correct replacement filtration/pump assembly for our fish tank. However, it did not come with the intake tube and the existing intake tube does not fit the updated design of the assembly. I sent an email to the company but never received a response. I cannot find this part in stores so I have to order it and pay S&H again. Am glad that I don't have to purchase an entirely new tank.

I plugged in the pond filter ration system after some months of no use, and it is not working. Any ideas?

Asked by: Dena
Open the pump and pull out the impeller to clean both items. Most likely it was dirty and the gunk has dried up. If there is no sound at all, nor vibration, then the pump is dead. If there is sound, then the debris may be the issue or the impeller may have separated. To open, flip it upside down, take off the tubing, and the piece the tubing connects to. You may have to pry the last piece off. It is a cover on the bottom of the pump with a short tube extending downward. BREX

Yes, all of your old parts should fit the old pump. You would only need to replace any that appear to be worn out or don't fit properly. BREX

I have the eclipse 1 that takes filter cartridge g. Filterpump for PFES 12 and my motor died. Is this the correct replacement for that unit. Please advise.

Asked by: Magic
From your question I am not able to ascertain if you own the Eclipse PFE 1 or the Eclipse 12. However, this is not the proper pump/filtration assembly for either one. The pump for the Eclipse 12 is no longer available, but here is a link to the pump for the Eclipse 1: http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Filtration-Products-and-Skimmers/Eclipse-Filtration-Parts/Pump-Motor-Assembly-for-Eclipse-PFE1.aspx. Inside your pump is an impeller assembly. Make sure you have cleaned this thoroughly before determining that the issue is the pump. Also, replacement pumps do not come with impellers or impeller housing covers. So be sure to either keep your old ones or order new ones with the pump. BREX

I have purchased four of these pumps now. I returned the first two after trying to get them to work and the replacements are giving me the same trouble. I have installed the uptake and primed it. They don't even hum. Any ideas as to the problem here?

Asked by: Connie0183
Thank you for contacting us Connie0183. Are you also purchasing new impellers or installing your old impellers into the pump? The pump does not come with an impeller. That is available separately only. If you need more assistance with this, please contact us via techsupport.marineland@spectrumbrands.com. We are happy to help you any way we can! BREX

I have the exact same issue as some of the commenters in the reviews. The pump arrived, which is great. However, intake tube from my prior unit does not fit this unit, PR3340. Do you sell those online? And will I need to pay shipping and handling again?

Asked by: Anthony SD
You would need to remove the impeller housing from your old pump to use on the new pump. This does not come with the pump as it is a separate part altogether. Item PR3341. It looks like this: http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Aquarium-Kit-Parts/Eclipse-Systems-Parts/Filtration-Parts/Impeller-Housing-for-Eclipse-System-2-3-Hex-5-Corner-5.aspx, and it pulls out of the bottom of your pump/filtration assembly. Asked by: Anthony SD
Good afternoon, Sorry for the delay in response! However, yes, this motor is the same for the Hex 5 and the Eclipse Hex 7. However, please be aware that this does not include the impeller or the impeller cover so you will need to save those parts and put them in the new motor that you receive. MINI

I have a Hex5 tank and my pump stopped working again, had issues before, easily fixed water level or fouling but this is the second time in 2 years that the pump has seized. This time the impeller won't come out of the housing, is this normal?

Asked by: Jaymz76
No, this only occurs if you have really hard water and have not been soaking the impeller and cleaning out the pump with vinegar or you allowed the water level to drop low in the tank, at some point, and the filter kept running. It will run with low water level but this makes it run very hot, which eventually melts the pump to the impeller. Try turning the pump upside down, and positioning it that way, then pouring distilled vinegar into the area where the impeller sits. Allow it to sit like that at least 15 minutes. If this does not loosen it up, and allow you to remove the impeller, it ran hot, out of water, and you will need a new pump and impeller. BREX

Pump not working

I've had the Hex 5 tank for about a month and when I went to change the filter, noticed that the bio-wheel is not flowing because water isn't being pumped in through the filter. The pump sounds like it's pumping while plugged in, which is why I didn't know there was an issue until I opened it up, but it's not sucking water in. I took the assembly apart and the piece inside, which looks like a little fan, is free moving with no stuck parts or anything, yet it's not pumping. How do I fix this, it's only a month old? I assume that these tanks and pumps are designed to be used for more than a month, so what gives?

Fitration pump

I have a Marineland Hex 5 tank in my classroom. The pump stopped working last week two days after I set the tank up for the new school year. Is this the correct part to replace the pump?
Asked by: Lorid
Yes, it would be, but have you opened it and removed the impeller for cleaning? I would do this first. Remove the long tube, then grab the short tube that is left behind, with something that will grip it and pull hard. This will remove the bottom cover so that you can pull the impeller out to clean it. BREX

Will this work for my Hex 5?

I was given an Aqua-Tech Hex 5 aquarium. I dont know how old it is. I set it up, let it run for several hours, and found that the pump was extremely hot. My thermometer read 86°, and there is no heater. I'm thinking it needs to be replaced. Is this the right replacement?
Asked by: Soybean
It would be, yes, but I'd be sure that is the issue before I replaced it. Was the light on? What was the room temperature? Did you try a second thermometer? BREX

will this fit my tank

Lets try this again. I have A 5gal tank. It is a eclipse 3 bow front will this fit it. And is this all I need for a new filter asselbly? Can I buy it any where near where I live or do I have to order it from you?
Asked by: bettagirl
If you have a 5 gallon tank, it cannot be an Eclipse System 3 with the curved front. It would have to be the Aqua Tech 5 (similar to Eclipse 6, just a shorter tank, and it was sold at Wal-Mart only). If you have the Eclipse System 3, the pump in question will work. If you have the Aqua Tech 5, it will not. You need the pump, impeller, intake tube, impeller housing, strainer, and biowheel bearings to put together a full filter system. Look at the underside of the hood to the tank, under the light bulb. There should be a label there indicating what system you own or you can look at the backside of the pump/filtration assembly for the same info. Such parts would need to be ordered through us unless you have a very good local store. BREX

New to having aquariums. Recently purchased a HeX 5 and now the pump isn't working, probably overheated or something. Is this all I need to purchase

Asked by: mmcdonald4vtech
Well, you may not need to purchase anything. Most of the time when they stop, you need to open them and remove the impeller for cleaning. This is done by removing the intake tube and strainer, then pulling down on the remaining short tube. Clean the impeller, and clean up inside the little pump. If you do have a dead motor, then yes, this is the correct pump. You may also need the impeller assembly, if the unit was run dry as it would indeed overheat in that situation and melt the two items together. BREX

Instructions for replacing PR3340 filter pump

I purchased the PR3340 but even though everything looks the same, the filter tube won't fit into the mechanism.
Asked by: Wastatemom
We would need to know which tank you have to be sure you bought the right item. Assuming you did indeed buy the right pump, do you have the impeller installed into the impeller housing with the blades closest to the housing? When you place the impeller up into the pump, it should be inserted magnet first or up, with blades down towards the gravel. The tube would then fit into the bottom of the cover/housing itself. BREX

It is to my understanding that the eclipse three, six, 12, all have the same hood. Could the eclipse 12 filtration system fit inside a six. I understand the six is no longer in production, but if the 12 has the same hood then wouldn't the filtration system of the 12 be similar to that of the six?

The impeller in our pump started making rattling noises and so I bought a new one. The new one has the same problem. Any ideas

Asked by: katieb4
Take distilled vinegar and a q-tip and clean out the motor area in case there are any mineral deposits. When you install the impeller, be sure to insert it into the pump's cover fist, then push them up into the pump, together. When you do this, check to be sure the impeller fits into the cover snugly. If it does not, you may be needing a new cover. You will also want to check up in the pump for any grooves, warped areas, etc, although I don't think this is the issue. I suspect the cover. BREX
