Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is just what I was looking for and glad they had it! I had my old motor finally burn out after 14 years of service!! That is a great product because it lasted that long. So I replaced it with the same thing. Thank you for having replacement products since my 29 gal tank is still just fine!!

How does the pump work

Asked by: Lancaster
I'm not sure what you are asking, but this pump is semi-submersible. The bottom half of it should be in the water. It pulls water up through the intake tube, through itself, and out over the spillway and into the channel on the back where the cartridge lays. There is an internal impeller which needs to be removed and cleaned periodically to keep the pump in working order. BREX

I have an Eclipse 6 and the motor burnt out. According to the product code on the assembly, this is the part, but it does look different. Do you sell the replacement motor assembly for the Eclipse 6?

Asked by: deborahbruning
No, that has been discontinued for a while, so very few parts are still available for it. The pump/filtration assembly is one that is no longer available. Have you tried removing the impeller, and cleaning it to make sure the pump is actually the issue? BREX

The PFE 3 looks like the pump I threw out 2 years ago for my 25gallon eclipse tank (24x12" hood). Is this it? I've been told the 25g tank is discontinued, but this looks like the exact same pump.

Asked by: Fozzola
Good morning, Thank you for your inquiry. They do look exactly the same, but unfortunately they are not interchangable. If you have the Eclipse 2 (24"x12") system, then you will need the pump that is for this model (item #PR3081), which you shoudl be able to find at our online parts list. MINI

I got a used aquarium that came with a Marineland Eclipse PFE3 cover and lighting system.

I have no idea what parts need to be purchased for the filtration system. I found a pump that said it goes with the PFE3 online but what else do I need and how does it all fit together and then mount in the hood? Anyone know of a user manual or instructions online?
Asked by: Moddestmoose
yeah but you didn't answer the guys questions, like "where can I find a user manual." Surely you guys have electronic copies of the exploded view of the pump....(!)

My pump stopped working HELP i dont want my fish dead

recently the power in my are was in and out i just seen my PFE3 pump stopped working so i took and clean the impeller and the housing for it but pump does not turn on or even make noise does this mean i just need this PFE3 pump motor house or do i need all new impeller and everything please help me i need a filter for my fish and can only use this filter with my hood
Asked by: Stevoosborn
When you tried the pump after cleaning, did you re-install the impeller first? The pump will not make any noise without the impeller in it. If you did, then you need to buy the pump itself. If you are hearing noise, but the pump will not pull water, then you may not have the impeller installed correctly or may need a new one of those. BREX

Is this a complete unit, all I should need is the tub that attaches/

Motor in the old pump stopped working, this is for a 55 gallon tank
Asked by: monteinlasvegas
No. The pump/filtration assembly is comprised of the pump itself with the tray as one part, the impeller, the impeller housing, an intake tube, strainer, biowheel and biowheel bearings. Oh, and the flexible motor mount. All of these parts are available separately. If your pump is not working, first open it and remove the impeller, clean both parts. If you find you need to order the pump, make sure you have the other parts as well. BREX

i have the pfe3 and one day it just stopped sucking water.

what do i need? filter motor or what?
Asked by: NormaJn
The first thing you need is to open it, remove the impeller, and clean both parts. If, after the cleaning, it will make no noise at all or you find the pump warped or damaged during the cleaning, then you would need the pump. If it will make noise, but still will not pull water, you would need the impeller and possibly the impeller housing. BREX

My PFE3 pump filter won't suck up the water anymore. Besides the pump motor assembly and

a new extension tube and intake strainer, is there anything else I need to buy? I keep seeing something about "impellers." Do I need to buy one of these also for my filter pump or is it already installed in a new pump motor assembly? I was given this tank and am new to taking care of it. Thanks for your help
Asked by: angelfishfamily
no pump will work without the impeller. It is the blade that actually moves the water.. The motors only purpose is to spin the impeller. The bottom piece comes off. May be a little stiff, but it will come off. Then you will see the impeller. If it is there, make sure it has all the blades intact. If the is not one or it is damaged, your pump will not wrk and you need to get one. They are cheap.

Asked by: Rebinga
I just replaced the same thing. Yes, the PFE3 is the right pump. I recommend that you get a new impeller too, mine was missing a couple of blades. Your choice on that one.

Running too fast

I have this pump (PFE3) from Maineland and it has started to pump too much water. So much so it pumped 2 gallons out onto the floor as even the overflow trough could not handle it. Ive taken out the insides and cleaned them and it works the same. Any suggestions?
Asked by: jamesJames
I have had the same problem too. But I found it was because my filter pad needed changing. Try running it without any filter media and see if the problem still exists. If so, I am of no help. If it stops the problem then the problem is in your filter media. Just my experience.
