what can i put in media container to lower ph, but not change water color

Asked by: liquidsteel
I really can't think of anything that will lower the pH besides peat, which does change water color or a pillow softener. BREX

Hi, I'm new to SW tanks and I recently bought a Marineland Emperor 400. I was wondering what exactly this media container does? It didn't come with anything to put in it.

Asked by: LBDantzler
It enables you to customize your filter to your needs. You can fill it with carbon or bio beads, filter floss, etc. In your case, probably bio beads would be best. BREX

What do you fill in the media container??

I just got the Marineland Emporer and the directions say to "open and fill one side of the media container". What do I fill in it?
Asked by: Savannah
Look up what would be beneficial for the species of fish you have. I have cichlids so i use coral in mine. This buffers the PH for me.

I purchased a 50 gallon aquarium with a Emperor 400 system. I currently have the media containers empty in the space closest to the aquarium and the f

and the filter cartridges next to them furthest space from the aquarium with the blue facing toward the aquarium - is this the right setup?
Asked by: spotter
Yes, except the blue should face the back of the filter box, away from the tank. The media containers should house carbon, zeolite, biobeads, floss, or peat, something of this nature, that will help customize your filtration to meet your tank needs. BREX

i have 3 oscars in a 55gal aquium?

i installed the 400 and since i cleaned it. it does not seem to be working like it did. and the media filter do i need it and if i do what shold i put in it. and where wold it fit in front are behind the e filters
Asked by: rock4040
Please call into our support staff about how the Emperor is currently working. No, the media containers are to help you customize filtration for your tank. They can be filled with extra carbon, ammo chips, bio beads, filter floss, whatever would help your tank the most, and should be in front of the filter with the cartridges behind them. BREX

Emperor Media Cartridge

Should the media cartridge be placed closest to the tank or towards the back of Emperor 400? Also can the cartridges be used as a complete replacement to the Rite-Sized cartridges? Are there any good locations to get information on different setup combinations of Media Cartridges, Rite-sized filters, etc. ?
Asked by: Empirepool
It all depends on what type of fish you have, your maintenance routine, and so forth. In general, the media containers are in the front, with the cartridges behind. Some folks use 4 cartridges and no media containers. Some fill media containers with biobeads, polyfil, ammo chips, carbon, peat, you name it. It all depends on what your filtering needs are, and what type of fish you are keeping. BREX
