Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like the quiet operation of the filter and wheel. This is the second fish tank I have owned, and this one runs much better and quitter. However, the package the tank and filters came in did not identify which wheel went into the filter and I had to go on line and question to find out which was right. Other than that, everything was just as expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Item is great, last a long time and WORKS My only grip is that they don't allow retailers to buy parts that wholesalers don't. So you have to buy at full retail and then sell to the public.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It takes care of all the ammonia & nitrates that are harmful to the fish. Low maintenance with little or no cleaning at all.I have the 350 Penguin power filter.A great product thus resulting in little or no testing at all.It does not however control the PH level. That is done with a separate test kit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great! I know you aren't supposed to replace a BioWheel unless it gets damaged... My turtles took the cover off my filter and pulled out my old wheel a couple of times- it was even submerged in their water for a few hours and mostly unraveled. I got a new wheel and was pleased with the shipping time, but the quality seemed like it could have been slightly better. The wheel doesn't stay centered on the axle, and the mesh accordion covering was coming away from the frame, similar to the way my old one was. It does fit in my filter though an is functioning as it should- my water looks wonderfully clear again.

Is this the replacement part for PR2002? I need the bio wheel for our Marineland Bio-Wheel

I bought this part on Amazon and you sent it to me. It was sent in a plastic shipping envelop and was crushed. I sent it back. If I buy it from you, can you guaranty that it will be shipped in a way as to protect it from being crushed?

Asked by: Niteprowl2
After reviewing the various options for purchasing this on Amazon, it looks like your order either shipped from Amazon or from a third party, not us. We ship via UPS, and place the part in a box. There is no way to guarantee UPS will not crush something. BREX

I have a 350 and one of my biowheels has a torn pleat. It does not seem to affect operation. Should I replace it or just leave it alone?

Asked by: KennyJ
Hi KennyJ, If the bio wheel is still rotating, I would just let it be. It will not affect the biological filtration of the bio wheel. BREX

Where is the number on the filter? I'm not sure which one I need.

Asked by: Swilliams
The model number of your filter is molded right into the top of the cover. Depending on how old it is, it should be in the upper right hand corner. BREX

Does this filter fit on an axle of some sort, because I am missing that part. When my daughter was taking care of my large goldfish, she developed ich, so they threw the wheel away, apparently the whole assembly. My water is clouding. Help!

Asked by: AnnaMarie
Yes, they are called bearings, and are purple. Do a partial water change, and add Marineland Bio Spira to boost your biological filter. Here is a link to the bearings: http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Filtration-Products-and-Skimmers/Penguin-Parts/BIO-Wheel-Parts-for-Penguins/BIO-Wheel-Bearings-2pk--Penguins-100B-and-350B.aspx. For future reference there is no need to throw the bio wheel away after illness or medicating. BREX

My Bio Wheel won't turn. There doesn't seem to be enough water flow. It did work, it just quit about a week ago. I cleaned the pump unit and didn't find anything? What could be wrong? Thanks

Asked by: tomcat
Run a baby bottle brush through the intake tube, soak the impeller in distilled white vinegar, and take a paper towel soaked in vinegar, pack it into the motor, and twist it around. If you have hard water deposits you will need the vinegar to clean it out. Also, make sure the purple bearings are properly in place, and clean so the bio wheel can turn correctly. BREX

how often should this be cleaned or can it be rinsed out? Have five six inch fish in 55 gal aquarium. The bio wheels are black and not turning all the time.

Asked by: Mariel
There is no recommended amount of time in between cleanings because we don't typically recommend cleaning. You can occasionally take a q tip and run it between the folds lightly to remove excess build up, but the bio wheels, in an overstocked tank like yours, are going to start and stop because they are overloaded. If you decide to replace them, float the new bio wheels in the tank first, prior to swapping them out. BREX

I've used my bio wheel for 10 months and recently moved. I just set my tank back up. My bio wheel has been dry in a box with my other tank accessories for the past three weeks, do need to buy new ones?

Asked by: Carmezzi
No, not at all! You can still use the bio wheel; it will grow new bacteria on it once it is in operation. BREX

I recently installed 2 Penguin 200's on my daughter's tank. One bio wheel is FAR louder than the other. The noise switches filters if I swap the wheels.  I have already tried twisting the wheel a hair.  The noise is intolerable.  Any suggestions??

Asked by: Dr_windo
Depending on how long these filters have been in use, you may want to float the bio wheel for a day or two. In brand new systems, customers found that bio wheels could be really noisy until they absorbed enough water to "break them in". If the bio wheel appears to be warped, just give us a call at 1-800-322-1266 for assistance. BREX

Is the biowheel an essential part of the filter?

We bought a used Penguin 350 and there are no biowheels included. Are these needed for it to work correctly?
Asked by: Kaelee
Those are available separately. They are the filter's main media for biological filtration. The filter can operate without them, but you will get less filtration. BREX

Bio Wheel Stop turning

When i first purchased the Bio wheel system, now my bio wheels stop turning
Asked by: sebastian
Most likely you need to take the entire filter system apart and give it a good cleaning. Soak the impeller in distilled white vinegar for about 15 minutes and swab out the reservoir it resides in with vinegar as well. BREX

Does the bio wheel actually revolve or spin? i bought a used penguin bio wheel 350 but the cartridges were missing. i do not see how they would spin

i did not notice any mechanical device that the cartridges attaches to that would make them spin like the rear rotors on a historic ferry
Asked by: TeflonDon
Thank you for your question. The Bio-wheels do rotate with the pressure of the water that is coming out of the fitler housing. It is like a water turbine that is powered by the current of water from a river/stream. If the bio-wheels are not spinning, then we would recommend that you soak the bio-wheels for about 30 minutes in the tank water, so that they can accumulate bacteria be weighted down. MINI
