Actual size of part?

I sadly don't remember what filter size I bought years ago, but continually forget to order these in bulk. Is it possible to get the dimensions so that I might be able to check if it's the right one before I purchase them?

Bio-Wheel 350 pleated cartridge

I have 2 pleated cartridges in my filter and one is torn inside the pleat so neither cartridges are spinning. Do I need to replace the one that is torn?
Asked by: Poomom3
The torn one would not be able to interfere with the other one. Try removing the filter, and taking it apart to clean the filter box, the impeller, and the intake tube. Use hot water and a soft cloth but be thorough when cleaning the tube and the impeller, as well as the well the impeller sits in....your flow rate is probably reduced due to buildup and the wheels cannot spin. First, make sure you have both purple bearings in place. Second, remove your impeller and intake tube, clean both of them, and clean out the bottom of the filter box. If it still will not move, then you need item PRBW2350B. BREX

Biowheel for Penguin 200?

My bio wheel was damaged in a move. I don't see a replacement for the 200 just the 200B but that one does not look like it has the "pegs" on the side to fit into the filter. Which one can i use for the 200? Thank you
Asked by: Carol19
There has only been one 200 and that is the 200B. If yours has the light blue bearings that slide onto the biowheel, that is the Penguin 170. You would need to check the discontinued products section for that biowheel. If you are referring to the Penguin 200, that one takes purple bearings that rest in the filter box. The 200B impeller is the correct one. The B just lets us know what variation of impeller it is. BREX

I cannot seem to keep my nitrates at a safe level should I change my biowheel

We have had a breakout of tail rot and have been treating it. HOwever, even with all of the water changes I have been unable to maintain a safe nitrate level. Is it possible that the bio wheel is reinfecting the tank and or not working well enough? WE feed once every other day and change our filter weekly. We are not overcrowded in a 30 gal tank we have 12 fish. HELP
Asked by: pbmom
Are we talking nitrite or nitrate? NItrate is harmless to fish, and is an overall indicator of tank quality. You don't mention water changes. A 30 gallon tank with 12 fish (and numbers are relative, what types of fish are they?) should be vacuumed every other week, and have 25% of the water removed, to keep nitrate levels down. Also, your filter system, not just the cartridges, needs cleaning periodically, usually every couple of months. The biowheel is working well if your ammonia and nitrite levels are at 0 and nitrates are high. If we are talking nitrites, you need to clean out the entire filter system, add some Tetra Safe Start, and allow your system to re-establish that portion of the biological filter. BREX

Bio-Wheel replacement after algae?

We have a Penguin 350B power filter for our 55 gal tank, and have been dealing with green water from algae. We realized that we were overfeeding and had to do a thorough cleaning and several water changes to correct the problem. Now we finally have a clean tank. The bio-wheels still have green in the material and I am hesitant to circulate water through them for fear of getting the green water again. We have tried spraying them off but it is not working. Will it hurt to use the bio-wheels again, or should I purchase new ones?
Asked by: grinalitl
No, it won't hurt; they will not cause the green water. Just go ahead and use them. Also, we recommend adding Tetra Safe Start to re-establish your biological filter. By the way, it works well to clear up green water too. I used it for that purpose as a last ditch effort, and it cleared it in about 4 days. BREX

Penguin 200 Biowheelwithoutbuying

I have an existing freshwater tank. It's about 3months old. Thebiowheel stopped working. I replaced it with a new bio wheel. I can't get the wheel to turn on its own. First, which way is the wheel supposed to turn? Towards or away from u?
Asked by: Srk051756
Hello, If you are having trouble with your BioWheel rotating, but the wheel spins freely when manually pushed, this means you have one of two issues occurring. Either you need to raise your water level in your aquarium or your impeller is in need of a thorough cleaning. When in normal rotation, the BioWheel will rotate away from you if you are looking at the filter from the front of your tank. Hope this helps, ML2

my bio wheel has just stopped spinning. its only two months old.what can i do about it?

its for a penguin 200
Asked by: fishnuts
Unplug your filter and remove it from the tank, take out the intake tube, impeller housing, and impeller and clean it. Most likely you have a clog somewhere, and this has slowed your flow rate down to where the wheel cannot turn. Also, make sure the purple bearings are in place beneath the pins at each end of the wheel. BREX

How often do you need to change the Bio-Wheel assembly on a 30 gal. tank. I am using the Penquin 200 Filter.

Asked by: Buttons
Never, unless it tears or become warped, or the tank becomes infested with lice, hydra, leeches, something like that. BREX
