from Impeller problems I bought a Penguin 150, and I will say it does a very good job keeping my tank clean. Unfortunately, I have had it less than two months, and I have had to replace the impeller four times. The filter works perfectly fine for a few days, then it starts making a grinding sound, which gets rather loud after about a day. Not long after that, it makes a very loud noise, that sounds like a horn. The instructions say gravel or sand is the cause, and to clean the impeller. Tried several times, and it did not help. Found a few forums that suggested giving the impeller a slime coat. That helped a little, but even then only for 15 minutes. I do not see how I could have assembled the filter incorrectly, I just feel like the impellers are either to delicate, or have major design flaw, and there is no way I should not be replacing the impeller as much as the filter cartridge.
