Impeller Assembly - 350B is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sadly Disappointed I used to have the Emperor 400, 2 actually, and was extremely satisfied them. They were quiet, and the bio-wheels never stopped turning. They were so good, that I was able to stock my 120 gallon tank with 127 fish. I purchased the 350's, again 2, May 10, 2016. Both impellers and impeller shafts are deplorable worn. I've always had issues with the bio-wheels turning.I have 2 air-stones, in under-gravel filter lift tubes. Each stone is 24" away from the intakes. I have examined the filters, looking for sand, gravel, carbon, debris, and even checked for snails. No foreign matter found, but that's when I noticed that the shaft and sleeve were badly worn. The bio-wheels, I have done the same, checking for foreign matter, snails etc. Nothing found. I have had this issue with new filter cartridges, high water levels, and even checked the flow without the strainer on the intake without the covers on either. The bio-wheels will turn more often than not without my media in the filters. Not what I had expected :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Was exactly what I needed Had two penguin 350 filters and both Impellers were broken because of heavy wear and tear. The filters were very loud or sometimes stopped working. I ordered two new impellers this spring and replaced them very easily and it worked like a charm. The filters are now so silent. Very happy with the product and the quick delivery.

My 350 Penguin won't run again if power goes off. I had to lift a little part of the impeller housing in order to start again. Just a few days ago it happen again but this time won't run anymore. Impeller shaft broke in two and magnet got deformed.

Asked by: Eamv2017
Sounds like you need a new impeller assembly and a power strip with surge protection. Also, be sure to clean the impeller very well every month or two. BREX

Impeller shaft in my 350 penguin bizarrely got stretched and thinned! Magnet also changed form and looks kind of triangular now. No idea what happen there!

Asked by: Eamv2017
This would be due to some sort of debris being caught in the well of the motor and wearing the shaft down. The most common culprit is sand. BREX

I have a Marineland Magnum 350 set up. This LOOKS like the right Impeller assembly. Could you verify that before I order it. Thanks

Asked by: Bozo123
Hi Bozo123, This is definitely NOT the correct one as this one fits the Penguin 350. You need: http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Filtration-Products-and-Skimmers/Magnum-Parts/Impeller-Shaft-Assembly-without-Magnet-for-Magnum-350.aspx and if the magnet is also bad, you need: http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-parts/Filtration-Products-and-Skimmers/Magnum-Parts/Magnet-for-Magnum-350.aspx. Hi,wanted to know if you can remove the impeller from the lift tube? or is it one piece? This is on the penguin 350 hob

Asked by: Helnaak
It comes out. Remove the intake tube, then pull up the impeller housing. Once the housing is out, you will see the impeller attached to the underside of it. Just pull it out. BREX

I just got a new bio wheel 350 and I have sand in my tank. It keeps making a horrible noise. How do I stop the sand from messing up the impeller

Asked by: Cc1413
Good afternoon, Sorry for the delay in response to your question. However, yould be able to use anything that has a smaller porous surface area that has been approved for aquarium use or food grade. Therefore a cheese cloth would work (rubber band it around the strainer), or filter floss. MINI

Is this the correct impeller For pump e160703?   If not can you give me the model number of what I am looking to purchase please?

Asked by: Bob needs assistance
Unfortunately, the number you provided is just a raw material number, and does not provide any information as to what pump you own. If this is for a filter, the filter model/name will be on the cover. If this is a submersible pump, there should be a model name molded into the pump. BREX

I took out my impeller to clean it off and remove some pieces off the blades etc...I'm only wondering which way the impeller should face when going back in. Does the side with the magnet go down toward the water or up toward the filter, thanks.

Asked by: xInhuman
Thank you for your inquiry. However, the magnet will need to go into the filter housing first, with the fan blades pointing up towards your ceiling. MINI

Help with the noise plz

I bought a penguin 350 on black Friday and it worked great for about 1 week, then it started making a very loud grinding noise. Customer service sent me another one and it was running for about 2 weeks and now it's doing the exact same thing. I've taken them both apart, cleaned them even though they weren't dirty. I've checked the impellers and they look normal. I put it back together and it was quiet for about 5 minutes. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Should I buy another impeller? Also I do have sand in the bottom of my tank, is that causing the problem? If so, how do I fix it besides taking out the sand? Any suggestions would be very appreciated. I'm at my wits end with all the noise, and not being able to use my filter. It filters very well except for the noise.
Asked by: Sherra
The sand is the issue. Sand will always find its way into any filter system and make the impeller noisy. You need to make sure there is no sand lodged under the magnet or the blades or in the bottom of the little reservoir in which the impeller resides. Use a toothpick to remove any sand packed in there. Once you have removed that, you can either place filter floss inside your strainers, or there is a little sponge accessory you can buy for a couple of dollars to slide over the strainer, just for this purpose. Preventing sand from getting into the filter is key to a quiet and well functioning filter. BREX

Filter is not pumping water

I have a 350
Asked by: Acosta
If the filter is no longer pumping water into and from your tank, then we would recommend that you try to clean the impeller with white distilled vinegar first. If this does not solve the issue, you would need to see if the impeller is moving inside of the housing, just not strong enough to create the system. If that is the case, then you will need a replacement impeller. MINI

will a broken magnet on a propeller stop the filter from working?

I have three or four of the penguin bio wheel 350 and they all stopped working. When i took out the propeller assembly i noticed that the magnet on both was broken in half. Will replacing the propeller assembly fix that?
Asked by: DLRH
Yes, new impellers will fix that problem, but you want to determine why they are breaking as that is not a common issue at all. Something must be getting into the impeller area or you are getting a lot of build up of hard water and need to soak the impellers in vinegar more often. BREX

Do you have the rubber ends for the impellers available for sale? This is the part(s) that I need the most.

Asked by: Ed13
No, those are not available separately. If you are wearing through them, be sure to take the impeller out monthly and soak in distilled white vinegar for about 10 minutes during your routine maintenance, as you may have hard water. Also, sand can be an issue. If you have sand in the aquarium, put some filter floss inside the strainer. BREX

How do I remove the impeller to clean it from Penguin Power Filter Model 350?

Asked by: Lottiesyoungest
Once you have the black water tube out of the filter box, separate it from the flat impeller attachment in the filter box. As you look up into the impeller you will see a purple plastic impeller on the shaft. Grab the shaft just below the impeller and pull straight down, it will pull out . It is held only by friction of the rubber bushing against the small hole that you cannot see . You replace the entire piece, it has a rubber bushing on both ends of the shaft and a dark black magnetic piece & purple impeller in the middle of the shaft
