Rated 5 out of 5 by from Your Penguin filters are Great, very quiet I purchased a Mid-level strainer and 2 extension tubes about a month ago. the Mid-level strainer is a great idea, allowing me to draw water from different levels of the tank. I use live plants and they allow me to draw water above the plants. Great Idea guys.

I just bought a Penguin 200 to replace an old Emperor 280 and the intake does not reach the bottom. Do I need another mid level as well as an extension to attach to my existing intake? Will it be too long? The tank is about 17 inches high

Asked by: PJLM
Your intake only needs to be halfway to three quarters of the way down into the tank. It should not be all the way to the bottom because it is too easy to pull in gravel or sand, which is not good for the filter. Also, if any particles make it that far, it is a sign of serious overfeeding. If you do buy the extension, yes, you need the mid-level and you will most likely need to cut the extension down to fit. Is this replacement part equal to part 11297

Asked by: I handjd
Thank you for contacting us! No, it is not the exact same size as it is for the Penguin filters, whereas the PR11297 is for the Emperor filters which are a bit bigger and bulkier, overall. BREX

where does the adjuster need to be set at for a 20 gal. tank?

Asked by: cheese
The purpose of the mid-level strainer is to aid in circulation of water in taller tanks. Where you adjust it is personal preference. Leave it open if you wish to pull water from the middle of the tank and increase the circulation, close it if you do not or have fry. BREX

is this piece needed on the filter when using with a ten gallon tank?

My son just bought a standard 10 gallon rectangular marineland fish tank. If I were to use all the intake tube(extensions) that were included the final product goes below the gravel line and does not seem to do the job. Please advise on what attachments I use that actually submerge into the water. Thanks
Asked by: Walker
you really dont need this on a 12" deep tank. If you feel you need to use it shorten the intake tube enough that the strainer is above the gravel line
