Quiet freshwater and saltwater powerheads ideal for creating less noise in your tank.

Penguin® Power Heads deliver constant flow with fully adjustable aeration and increased surface agitation...and they remain silent at all times. The custom air valve regulates air flow, the air filter eliminates noise and dust, and the intake strainer keeps debris from fouling the impeller... that's efficiency!

Um I have a huge tank that's 150 galons and nothing in ite yet but I don't now what pump to use

Thank you for your interest in this Marineland product! That would depend on what type of livestock you intend to keep, and what purpose your power head will be serving. If you want additional air, the Penguin 1140 would be a good choice, and we would recommend two of them. If you want more current or movement, the Maxi Jet 1200 would be our recommendation, and again, two of them at least. BREX

It keeps stoping how do I fix it

Asked by: Tailsian
Make sure you do not have anything interfering with the impeller by removing the powerhead, opening it, and pulling out the impeller for inspection. Clean out any sand, debris, sludge, algae, hard water deposits, etc. Use hot water and vinegar to clean the impeller, and swab out the inside of the powerhead. This should prevent any more issues, but if you have sand as your substrate, make sure the powerhead is at the top of the tank or put some floss inside the little strainer to keep sand out. BREX

I need to replace the filter assembly in my Marineland Silhouette Glass Aquarium Kit 3 gallons

Asked by: janjuaryshan
Typically, this should last a few years. If it has stopped operating, be sure to remove the bottom cover, in order to pull out the impeller and clean it. ML90624 is the item number for the pump/filter assembly. You may need to special order it through your local fish store, if cleaning does not resolve the issue. If you are under warranty, please call 1-800-322-1266. BREX

I want to use an underground filter in a 120 gallon XH with African Cichlids. What size power heads should I purchase and how many?

Asked by: Marlowe
I'm not sure I would recommend a UGF for a number of reasons, but if you do decide to go that route, I would use at least 3 or 4, and probably the Penguin 660. BREX

Got a penguin 550 powerhead. Comes with an "air valve with Aerator/Air Tube". Does the air valve go inside or outside the tank. I know the airtube connects under water 2the Impeller Housing, but I need 2know if the other ends goes inside or outside tank

Asked by: Rbtt
It has to be outside the tank in order to pull air into it. BREX

The lift tube on the 1140 is smooth unlike the others. Will the 1140 still work with an under gravel filter?

Asked by: jthall07
Yes, it is definitely for undergravel filters, although a bit powerful for them. BREX

Snubber circuit to protect relay controlling 550 and 660 powerhead

I am constructing a digital timer to control 550 and 660 powerheads. I want to connect a snubber circuit across the relay contacts to protect them from the inductive spike triggered by the pump motor upon turn-off. Can you recommend resistor & capacitor component values for this job, or alternatively propose a ready-made snubber device. Failing that, I need the resistance and inductance of the 550 and 660 powerhead motors. Thank you.
Asked by: julianop
From our engineer: I do not have any suggestion for the values needed for a RC snubber. The DC resistance for both motors is about 170 ohm. The motor inductance is unknown. My suggestion to the customer would be to pick nominal RC values and try to witness the contact in a dark room. That is assuming that the case of the relay has the contacts visible. The value of the RC components can then be altered to minimize the apparent spark on opening. Otherwise try an electronic relay or our Wave maker power strip. BREX

Penguin aquarium powerheads

I am interested in getting a penguin powerhead. Which one would be the best for a 75 gallon aquarium. Can the flow be adjusted? Thank you.
Asked by: bulldog51
That depends on what you wish to do with it, but most likely the Penguin 1140 would be the best one if you wish to circulate water from one end of the tank to the other. BREX

Penquin 1140

On your website, you show a picture of the Penquin 1140 along with the 550, 660 and 550R. But when I go to order, the only options are the 550 or 660. Do you no longer make the 1140, and if not, why is it still on your website?
Asked by: Alchemist
We do make the 1140. If it is not an option currently, then it is out of stock at the moment. As of next week, however, we will no longer be selling anything other than parts and media on the site. BREX

Remove the impeller, and clean it and the little area it sits in. Make sure nothing is caught up in the impeller such as hair or sand, and soak it in distilled white vinegar. BREX
