Marineland’s newest kits are available in either three or five gallon glass aquarium sizes.  All kits feature Marineland 3-stage hidden filtration with a Rite-SizeTM Z Cartridge and Marineland Bio-Foam® (included in the kit), and include an adjustable flow filter pump.  Bright white and blue energy efficient LED lights feature a 3-way switch (toggle between white and blue, off, and blue-only settings).  The white LEDs create a shimmering light in the water that mimics the underwater effect of sunlight, and the blue LEDs produce a relaxing moonlight glow.  The kits feature either a hinged or sliding glass canopy for easy feeding and water care dosing.  These easy-to-assemble kits are beautifully designed and easy to maintain.

Are they suitable for salt water the 5 gallon desktop

We have a lot of customers using them for nano set ups, however, the lighting is not suitable for corals or live rock so you would need to substitute a different type of lighting. BREX

This is not sold separately as it is rarely ever needed to be purchased. Try removing the front cover, pulling out the impeller, and cleaning it and inside the pump. If this does not work, call us at 1-800-322-1266. BREX

The filter pump has stopped working. Along with the maintenance of the fish tank, the filter pump was also cleaned. How can I fix or replace the filter pump as sooon as possible. Thanks.

Be sure to remove the front cover, take out the impeller, and clean it well with white vinegar and a soft cloth. Run a q tip with white vinegar in and around the inside of the pump as well, then rinse well. If you need more help, call 1-800-322-1266. BREX

Hi again! Hopefully I won't need to ask anymore questions after this. :) The instructions say to replace the filter cartridge every 4 weeks. It says the Rite-Size Z filter but the only one I could find was the Eclipse Rite Size one. Are they the same?

We just got our portrait tank all set up and it’s gorgeous. However, the pump is on the lowest setting and it still seems to harsh for our betta. Is there a sponge cover I could get for where the water comes out to soften the flow a bit? Any tips? Thanks!

We do not make a sponge cover for it, no, but the diffuser is also adjustable. You can change the direction of it which may help. Also, place some tall plants in front of the diffuser or a large piece of decor to interrupt the flow rate. At the lowest setting it is only moving water at a rate of 35 gph, your betta really should not have an issue with this flow, so you may also want to test the water quality in case he is stressed for some reason. I recently purchase the 5 Gallon portrait. Unfortunately the filter does not do a good job. I put new filters weekly clean sponge.. Is their a bigger filter I can replace it with? or warranteed larger filter..

The filter that comes with the tank is appropriate for such a small tank, and has a flow rate that can be adjusted between 35 and 75 gph. It does need to be taken apart periodically to clean the impeller like any other filter, in order to keep maximum flow. This small of a tank also requires a small, weekly water change, and can only house a couple of small fish, maybe 4 maximum, such as neon tetras. If your filter is clogging rapidly, this is a sign of either an over stocked or possibly over fed tank. Feed twice a day, but feed only one piece of food per fish in general. This is the only filter available specifically for this tank, but you can also use a hang on the back power filter, you just have to remove the back cover. BREX

I'm looking at either the Portrait or Silhouette tank to replace my daughters starter betta tank. Is there a spot for a heater in these tanks? Is it necessary? We're new to betta ownership but I want to make sure we get what we need but not overspend.

You can put the heater in the front portion of the tank, do not put it in the filter area. If you are facing the tank, on the left hand back wall there is an area where you can pull the cord through. You do indeed need a heater as bettas require warm water of 76-80 degrees. The pump in either of the ones you are looking at allows you to adjust the flow rate too, which is good as some bettas are not the best swimmers. BREX

Hi Bonk, You most likely do not need a new pump, you simply need to clean the current one. Unplug it, remove it from the tank, and pull the front cover off it then take out the impeller assembly. Remove all hair, debris, sludge, algae, etc., and swab out the inside of the pump with a q tip. This should get you back to a full flow, but if not, call 1-800-322-1266. BREX

All the water keeps pushing into front of tank. Replaced cartridge. Removed pump and impeller, cleaned both with vinegar, rinsed and reinstalled but only helped for a few hours. Had tank 1 month with 1 danio. How can I fix it?

So the water drains out of the back chamber? When you cleaned everything, was there any debris? Usually, this is caused by clogging of the pump. Did you clean out the filter chamber itself? Call us to discuss - 1-800-322-1266. BREX
