Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good kit, HORRIBLE heater Filter is good, 200gph is a bit high. I replaced it with a tetra ex30. heater shot up to (God-only-knows) degrees one night, I lost two fish. the next day another one. Will never buy their heaters, buy everything else

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Beginner Tank! I bought this tank setup a couple weeks ago. It comes with everything you need to begin your aquarist hobby, just like myself. However I'm doing a planted tank, and my only concern to grow and maintain healthy plants is the LED light. I'm not so sure if it's sufficient. Other than that. Its a great setup to get you started. Thanks Marineland

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tank, Great Price Excellent Customer Service I bought the 10 Gallon kit 6 weeks ago and have been enjoying this Tank with my Wife and son for five weeks now. Easy to set up, everything is there. I would have liked to see markings on the heater. but once set up the heater does a great job. My kit came without the trial packet of tetra safe start and food, and also had no filter pickup extension but one E-mail to Marineland and the stuff was on its way. The LED lmakes the fish look great and the moon light feature is really cool too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A quick way to get back into the Hobby! Well we are now three weeks into the experience and the product has been working very well. It had been years ago that we had the aquarium set-up for the kids. We wanted the latest and greatest and a quick way to get into the hobby again. This kit was the answer. It has almost everything you will need in the box. The heater, filter system, tank and hood with LED lights all function very good. If you purchase the kit, before you walk out of the store don't forget the gravel, a quality fish food and a good thermometer. We found the maintenance items easily found at your local LFS's or box stores. I would recommend this system to anyone wishing to get back into the hobby. This kit will cost you under 70.00 on sale (10 gallon) but to complete the experience with live plants, air bubblers, fish and maintenance items plan on spending $ 200.00 easy. Our only draw back for us was our choice of size. I would highly recommend the 20 gallon as a min. A lot happens in an Aquarium and the smaller the body of water the more maintenance it may require. We have 5 live plants, 2 shrimp, 1 snail, two bubblers, one large rock and 6 fish. It is full and a beautiful set-up. The white or blue lighting is a bonus. The Bio-wheel filter system gets high reviews and has cleaned up the water after a 20% water change in about two hours. If you use luke warm water the heater will have the tank to temp and regulated within 24 hours. If I had to find a dis-advantage it maybe the heater, has a dial on top but no direction as to warmer or cooler. This is minor issue as it will take you 10 to 21 days before you can get fish. By then you will have it figured out. PS: clock-wise is hotter, while counter clock-wise is cooler on the heater, and remember you MUST "season" the water before adding fish. Have fun and enjoy your new community.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great small aquarium. Good shape for viewing fish. I started with a 3 gallon kit for my betta and 2 small Cory cats last year. I received the 5 gallon kit as a Christmas present. I like the shape, but it makes it a little more difficult to put a background on it. The filter that came with the kit was broken, but Petsmart replaced it with a comparable (better actually) filter. I'm sure I will enjoy the new tank as much as the old one and my fish seem to enjoy the extra room. The only thing that might make the kit better would be to include a heater.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this brand of aquarium We bought a 37 gallon brand new marineland fish tank. We set everything up and had the tank running for about 5 days. After a week of getting the tank we come home to a huge mess and damage to our house. The whole tank emptied out due to a bad seal. I'm not happy and will not be buying this brand again!!!! Our stand is destroyed too from all the water soaking on it and all our fish dead! Not to mention a broken hearted 6 year old. This was her Christmas gift. Extremely disappointing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The overall setup is good for the price, but heater issues makes the kit worrisome The overall setup is good for the price. The tank, the hood, the lighting, and the filter seem to work well. The heater only worked for 15 days. On the 16th or 17th day, the heater appears to have stopped functioning properly, raising the water temperature to at least 90 degrees. Several of the fish died before the improper heater was detected and many of the surviving fish are not thriving or looking very good.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor build quality and random equipment. I've gone through 4 of the 10 gallon tanks now. Each one has had some type of deficiency from cracks in the glass to missing or incorrect equipment included in the kit for example different heaters and filters with each supposedly identical kit. I've been able to switch out the defective units at the lfs under warranty but will save myself the hassle next time and try another brand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful aquarium if all components worked Boxed kit in pet store had wrong lid. Took it back and they replaced it with one from another box. Heater didn't work- noticed after store closed so had to go elsewhere to buy another heater so fish would not be cold and perhaps die overnight. The only reason it gets a 4 star rating is that once it is set up it is beautiful...Also has good instructions for assembly. I had the identical 10 gallon tank and wanted a larger one. Had no problems at all with the first one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Busted after 3 weeks. I set this aquarium up and was very impressed at all that was included. However, last night (3 weeks after I had purchased this) I was awoken by the sound of not dripping, but GUSHING water. This tank had been on a very sturdy and flat stand. I checked other reviews and it appears I'm not the only one this has happened to. After an hour of saving fish, saving nearby furniture/items, and soaking up about 5 gallons of water from the carpet.... I went back to bed in a very bad mood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have to say this was my final choice I tried every tank Petsmart offered. I tediously brought back everyone until Marineland. I am so satisfied that I am hook on this company. I plan for a canopy and Marineland is what I will buy. Well constructed and packaged. They did not cheap out on the extras. My fish eat Marinland food also. We are happy campers. Also easy to set up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tank for kids We bought the 10 gallon kit for my nieces a few weeks ago for Glo fish. Just finally got around to setting it up, but everything works great. The filter is very quiet excluding the slight trickling noise even when the water level is at max. This hasn't bothered anyone yet. The girls are excited to learn how to take care of their own aquarium, and it fits nicely on top of their dresser. We have a 50 gallon tank downstairs, but it is a bit too big for them to reach up to properly. It's nice that we could find something smaller just for them. They love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value, easy to install The only part that was puzzling is the heater. The heater leaflet does not give information about how to adjust the temperature, does not mention the little orange light that goes on when the heater is actually heating. Other than this, we had everything we needed to start and clear instructions. I wish the initial instructions had mentioned that different substrate is needed for live plants at the setup stage...

The hood doesnt fit or open correctly & the led light falls out everytime I open the lid. It is not easy to feed the fish either. Not liking ...at all! I would return it if I didnt already have it all set up. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Surprised and disappointed This being my first ever aquarium kit, I was not sure what to expect. The tank has gobs of dried silicon that oozed from the top frame onto the glass, there is a slight scratch on one of the front panels which thankfully disappeared when I added water. The heater and filter appear to be functioning properly, and keeps the water at a constant 75 degrees and the Penguin filter is keeping the water nice and clear. The canopy fits the tank nicely and is sleek and attractive. My biggest disappointment is with the LED light module. It does not run the length of the tank and as such illuminates the middle of my 37 gallon tank leaving the upper back top sides of the tank rather dim and when the fish swim in those areas they also appear dim and not showing their true colors. If the lighting unit was longer and had a few more rows of lights the entire tank would then be properly illuminated. The "blue moonlight" effect is rather nice, however out of the 3 bulbs the center bulb is directly over top of the aquarium cross bar which projects an odd shadow of the bar into the tank and is much too dim to see the fish. The shimmering effect is quite nice however. I am very surprised that the unit left the design table and went to the manufacturing stage without someone noticing this design flaw and making the necessary modifications before mass producing. If the unit had 4 blue bulbs 2 on either side of the tank's cross bar, it would then produce a much more pleasing effect without casting shadows. The plastic cover that protects the bulbs is not water tight and as such the filter splashes water on it and I believe it to be just a matter of time before the bulbs short out due to water contacting them. If the module was entirely encased and water tight, I would then not see this as an issue. Finally, this was an ensemble kit that came with a stand "Monarch". The frame was warped slightly on the right side which made it impossible to set the tank within the frame. I had to sand the inside of the frame in order to make the aquarium fit. All in all, if those design flaws especially with the LED light module had been properly observed my review would have been quite different. I don't see myself keeping this canopy light combo and now need to find a better canopy/light fixture that properly illuminates the entire length of my tank.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! I've had the 10g kit for a year now and I can honestly say its a great product. No problems with the light, heater or filter. The only issue I have is that the light doesn't cover the entire length of the tank. I only noticed because my plants were growing sideways towards the light instead of upward. This light is strong enough to grow low light plants but make sure to plant them directly under the light of you want them to grow upward.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This Product was a bad choice for my sons fisrt fish tank We wanted to get my 2 year old a fish tank for this upcoming xmess. we walked in to a petsmart witch takes 45 mins to get to. so about 2 hour drive for their and back. we saw this and thought it was an awesome deal so we purchased it. we got home and my son was super excited. We put it up Saturday night and Sunday when we woke up and went to go turn off the fish tank light we noticed water around the tank. Apon further inspection we noticed that the water had leaked through our 3 shelf book shelf it was sitting on. it was about to collapse cause the water had been going through it all night. Called Petsmart and I ended up having to go all the way back down to get a new one. After picking it up we came back home and put the new one together. As soon as we started to put water in their I herd water dripping off the side of another shelf we put it on. Sure enough the second fish tank was leaking . Lucky for us we caught it this time before we filled up the whole tank. This was a bad choice of a fish tank and they should take it off the shelf at Petsmart. Now I have a book shelf I cant use anymore I have to drive now a total of 6 hours from start to finish with this stupid tank. DO NOT BUY!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good overall choice to start. Two months ago, I bought a Marineland 20 Gallon LED Aquarium kit in spite of a couple of very negative reviews. I thought I would wait at least a month to write my own. So far, everything is fine. I tested the aquarium out on the patio. No leaks. So I added clean gravel, water, start-up chemicals, and connected everything. The pump is whisper quiet unless the water level is too low, in which case, the return water splashes. Also, a few times, the filter failed to restart, and needed to be primed. Again, if the water level is proper, no problem. I subsequently bought a small air pump to power an air stone, which is a little noisy, but it is on a separate line so I can turn it off when it’s unwanted. The kit also came with a plug in timer to control the lights. After a week, I added artificial plants, shells, backdrop, and finally a few fish at a time. I am now up to 16 quite small ones, and everything is working as advertised. The blue night light really shows off the blue gravel, the neon tetras and the lemon Tetra. All in all, I am most satisfied, and would recommend this product. Especially since the negative reviewers did not seem to have a problem with replacement parts and the warrantee. This package was a lot cheaper than what it would have cost me to do it myself.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from great setup, but lights quit working after a few months The tank and accessories are great, but the light has stopped working after only a few months of use. It will turn on, but it is very dim and mostly just flickers.I have tried disconnecting and cleaning everything, but nothing seems to work.Seems that for the price, this 'long lasting' LED night/day hood light would last much longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LED AQUARIUM 75 & STAND. This kit is a quality kit... A well built 75 gallon aquarium which included a decent stand. The included LED fixture had to be donated to my 55 gallon discus tank, as the light output from it would be unsuitable for corals. My T5 Aquaticlife light fixture fits this tank perfectly. The stand was big enough to house a large sump and a rather tall protein skimmer (with room to spare). I always admonish people who want to begin fish keeping to start with the biggest aquarium they can afford. This kit would be an easy way to get off on the right foot with some good gear for a first hobbyist or an excellent upgrade for an existing setup.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tank Leaks Tank dumped all its water overnight. HUGE MESS! I was suspicious of its quality out of the box but didn’t follow my gut. I’m writing this review so you can be encouraged to inspect the quality of the seals in the corners. You can tell that it is poorly sealed. Trust me, you do NOT want 10 gallons of dirty fish water released into your home.I suggest Marineland take a hard look into their quality controls at the manufacturing site.

Purchased the Marineland 10 gallon for a Betta fish. Firstly, we are new owners of fish/fish tank. I've noticed that there is a mirror effect inside the tank and I've read that Betta do not like mirrors and there wondering if this can be removed?

Asked by: Annodbebe
All aquariums tend to cause reflections along the sides of the tank, due to them being made out of glass. You can not completely remove reflections but can decrease them with dimmer lighting (which bettas prefer), and having a background on the tank, plus plenty of natural decor and plants. BREX

I bought the 17" strip light too and would like to plug them both into a timer so they turn off after 8 hours, for when I work late. Otherwise, I note excessive algae growth. I want to be sure there's no damage to the lights or fire risk.

Asked by: nsid
As long as it is a quality timer and you use a power strip with surge protection that is approved for aquarium use, this should be perfectly fine to do. BREX

The light that comes with this kit will support low light plants such as anubias, java fern, and crypts. It will not support higher light plants such as water sprite, cabomba, hygrophila. You can supplement the light with the 17" Hidden LED if you decided to really get into some more difficult plants. BREX

How many Watts does the 10 gallon kit LED light put out? I'm having some issues with my plants, and am wondering if they need more light, but can't find anything on their power output. Thanks.

Asked by: Islandboy
Wattage only tells you how much energy the lights use. What you need for your plants it the Kelvin rating. This particular kit has a kelvin rating of only 5500. You need 6500. It is suitable for some low light plants like java fern, java moss, and anubias, but other plants need more. You can supplement it with the Hidden LED in the 17" length and achieve the proper Kelvin rating. BREX

Is there any lighting upgrade that will fit in the lighted area for this hood for this 37G tank?

Asked by: Ritch
We appreciate your interest in Marineland products! Unfortunately, no, there is not. The area is only 12" x 6", approximately. However, we do manufacture Hidden LED Strip Lights in 17" and 21" lengths that provide very bright lighting and 6000 Kelvin. These attach to the top frame of the tank in front, and cannot be seen. They have both blue and white LEDs, provide bright illumination and a night light feature. http://www.marineland.com/Products/aquarium-lighting/LED-Aquarium-Lighting/freshwater-saltwater-reef-aquarium-led-lighting-system.aspx. My LED bar sometimes will not work properly and instead of providing a constant light it will flash like a strobe light, some days it is fine but others it does the strobing behaviour. What might be the cause of this problem and how can I fix it?

Asked by: Marineland20Gallon
We are sorry to hear this is happening. Make sure no water is getting into the underside of the light or the switch. Also, if you have it plugged directly into an outlet, purchase a power strip with surge protection to plug it into as this issue can be caused by voltage issues within your area. If you are unable to resolve this problem, please contact us regarding the warranty at 1-800-322-1266. BREX

I need a replacement front feeding guard for this tank because I have killifish that like to jump and I don't want them getting through.  How can I order that?

Asked by: Jackelstorm1983
We appreciate your concern regarding your killifish. Unfortunately, that piece is not something that is available separately. BREX

What retailers carry this? I cannot find anyone who sells it.

Asked by: Davidwantsfish
Thank you for your interest in this Marineland product! Petsmart is one retailer that carries them. To find others, scroll down any page on our site, and click on the Buying Options tab then enter your zip code into the dealer locator. Many independent, local fish and pet stores also carry them. Is a separate aerator required? Or does the biowheel filter produce enough oxygen to sustain the fish?

Asked by: Nickel0815
This is an excellent question Nickel10815! Air pumps are not necessary if a tank is properly stocked and maintained. The filter will provide more than enough oxygen in a healthy, balanced tank. However, if the tank is over stocked or partial water changes are infrequent, it would then be highly recommended to include an air pump and air stone. BREX

Can I use any kit for saltwater

Asked by: Mbfiredude
Thank you for your interest in this Marineland product! Yes, all of the kits are suitable, but you will need a different lighting system, as the one that comes with this kit cannot support marine life. BREX

Can I do saltwater with any of your tanks

Asked by: Mbfiredude
Thank you for your interest in Marineland aquariums. Yes, all of the tanks are suitable for marine life. In regards to the kits, however, it would depend on what type of marine tank you wish to keep. The lighting is not suitable for much of marine life, but the filter would be fine, although you would also need a protein skimmer, and possibly a powerhead. BREX
