broken hood hinge
When I was putting the hinges in place on the aquarium for the hood to latch into, one snapped and broke. The other one attached to the aquarium just fine. So I have one hinge holding the hood on and not the other. It makes it difficult to leave the hood open when I am getting into the aquarium. can I buy a replacement? and where?
Just email or call us directly with your name, address and phone number - we would be happy to send a replacement one to you.

How does the heater work?
Hi, I just got this aquarium kit, but the heater really confuses me. I know you can move the knob to plus or minus but it doesn't show what temp it is set to, so do you need to move it numerous times to plus or minus to change its temp or how does it work?
The + is the maximum which represents 92 degrees Fahrenheit. The - is 68 degrees, the very minimum it can be set at. The little ^ sign represents 78 degrees, the ideal. You want to place the heater in the tank, fully submerged, for 15 minutes, before plugging it in. At that time, you should have the knob lined up with the ^. Allow the heater to regulate itself for 24 hours, observing the temp off and on during that time, on your thermometer. If it appears to be running for, for example, then turn the knob one "click" towards the +, and leave it for an hour, then check back. Any time you feel the need to adjust the heater, always move a very short distance, and give the heater an hour or two to make a difference to the temp in the tank before adjusting again.

Is this aquarium ideal for a reef tank? Is there any lights I could put in the 37 gallon Eclipse Bio Wheel tank to have live rock in it?
Is this aquarium ideal for a reef tank? Is there any lights I could put in the 37 gallon Eclipse Bio Wheel tank to have live rock in it? How can I change the mirror background on the tank and make it blue like the reef? sorry for so many questions, I'm just very interested…….
Technically you can modify this into a reef tank by removing one of the two bulbs and replacing with an itinic blue. This way you will have both the white and blue wavelengths of light that coral need to be sustained. The mirror background however, cannot be removed.

Can I use an Emperor 280 filter with the 10 gallon LED hood?
I would like to upgrade the filter in the Marineland 10 gallon LED aquarium kit. Will the Emperor 280 work the with LED light hood? I am not sure if the opening in the back is big enough.
No, the opening would not be big enough, and the filter would possibly cause issues for any fish residing in that small of a tank.

Could you give me the dimensions of the 20-gallon kit with the hood.
It is a standard 20 high: 24 x 12 x 16. The hood adds about 3/4" to the height.

Do the dimensions you show include the hood?
No, those dimensions are for the tank itself.

Compatibility with other hoods
I've had the 10 gallon version of the kit for 2 years and the part on the hood itself that connects to the hinges snapped off. Are there any compatible fluorescent hoods that would fit my LED Kit 10? (i.e. "Recessed Full Aquarium Light Hoods") If not, what other hoods are compatible with this item that could be purchased as a replacement?
The 75205 is a Marineland standard recessed fluorescent full hood that fits a 10 gallon tank. Under our Tetra brand name the 33148 30" LED Aquarium Hood will fit the 10 gallon tank you own.

Does this led light help grow the plants ?
No. You would need the Aquatic Plant Lighting System. The Hidden LED light is also 6500 Kelvin, and will grow plants as well.

How high can the water level be on the heater?
We have the 10 gallon LED aquarium kit. When the water is filled up, it goes much of the way toward the top of the heater. In fact, the water level is often partway up the red temperature adjustment knob, and sometimes even slightly above the point where the power cord comes out of the top of the heater. I have tried raising the heater so that the water doesn't come up so high on it, but the aquarium lid pushes it back down when I shut it. Is this situation normal or okay? I get a bit nervous at times when it comes to electrical appliances and water. In addition, the aquarium is in a bedroom where it is not plugged in to a GFCI protected plug. Is that dangerous?
The heater is fully submersible and it is safe to fully cover it with water.
Just make sure you have all of your equipment plugged into a power strip with surge protection and you should be fine.

Will the 37 gallon tank and stand combo hold about 30-40 lbs of live rock and another 10 lbs of substrate for a reef setup?
I just want to make sure the tank and stand combo will hold up because I have at least a few hundred dollars worth of rocks, corals, and fish in this tank.
Yes, that should not be a problem. The stands are rated for at least 10 lbs per gallon of water. In your case, it can hold up to 370 lbs. You will displace a fair amount of water with the rock and substrate, so you will only have roughly 315 lbs total.

20gal Kit Aquarium Tempered?
I have two of the 20gal Aquariums from the kit from some older freshwater tanks I had. I was just wondering if the glass on these is tempered? Thanks!
No, they are not tempered, but any drilling voids any and all warranties.

Broken Lid to the MARINELAND® BioWheel LED Aquarium Kit
We have the 20 gallon MARINELAND® BioWheel LED Aquarium Kit with the day/night light, and absolutely love it. Unfortunately, my husband just broke one of the prongs on the lid, that attach to one of the two clamps the holds the lid in place, whilst trying to clean it. Is it possible to purchase a replacement lid, with those clamps? We do not need the light, or filter, just the hood. Thanks.
Just give us a call and we will replace it for you. 1-800-322-1266.

Do you sell replacement lights for these kits?
Hello, I have a 20gallon Tall aquarium kit with the day and night setting light system. Unfortunately my toddler knocked the light system in the water and it stopped working. Is there anyway i could buy a replacement light system with the day and night features that will fit in the cover of the aquarium?
If you have the kit with the led light bar, that sits in a recessed area of the hood, this is called the Marineland LED Aquarium Light, and is readily available for around $20. These sites carry it: www.thatpetplace.com, www.petmountain.com, www.petsolutions.com, www.bigalsonline.com.

Is it okay to have the moon light on all night? Is it safe for the fish or is it like having the regular lights on?
I just bought a ten gallon kit. It is remarkably much better than aquariums used to be when I was a kid. Very quiet and just great to look at. Thanks for your great products! I have been buying all of marinelands products; defiantly top of the line compared to the other brands.
Thank you for your kind words! We appreciate your support! Ideally, they should only be on for a few hours. Fish are like other animals; they need a day/night cycle too.

LEDs getting wet.. intermittent problems with blue lights
I have the 10 gallon setup purchased in December 2013. We did not set up aquarium until January 15th, 2014. We have started having intermittent problems with the blue lights not coming on. I pulled the LED unit out, and found that it was wet with water seeping out of the led cavities and the seams.
According to the question "LED Corrosion?" asked on July 31, 2013, there was a past problem with the lights getting wet and corroded that was solved. It would seem that I ended up with an old model.
How can I get the corrected hood/lights?
If you have the light bar version, make sure the lens cover is placed inside the hood correctly to avoid condensation. If this is the light strand version, it could certainly be an issue with the strand. You would need to call into us to process a warranty. 1-800-322-1266.

There is no serial number on a kit. There are lot codes on each individual item. The kit itself would only have a UPC code.

Is the glass supposed to bow when full?
I have just purchased a 29 gallon starter kit. When the tank is full, I get a bow in the center. It makes a small gap in the hood. The difference is approx 1/4 inch.
Yes, it will bow, but the maximum allowed is .25", so it sounds like it is within specs. However, it is at the extreme end of our specification, so you may want to consider exchanging it if you just bought it new, from a store.

I have a 10 gallon tank and my bio wheel will not spin, tried everything but it just stopped. Do you sell replacement wheels as Pet Smart where I
bought the kit does not. Pet Smart also mentioned that they have heard of this from other customers as well, not sure what the problem is.
Usually when a biowheel stops spinning, the first thing to do is to remove the impeller and impeller housing, and thoroughly clean both plus your intake tube and the filter box. The biowheel is affected by the water flow which is affected by sludge, minerals, other build up. If this does not start the biowheel up again, make sure the bearings (purple tabs) are in place and have not been lost.
When cleaning the filter box be sure to remove any algae or sludge on the spillway that could be catching the biowheel.
Replacement biowheels are available through local fish stores, our website, other sits, and catalog companies. We recommend www.aquariumguys.com, www.petsolutions.com, www.thatfishplace.com, www.petmountain.com to name a few.

Tech Details wrong or wrong item in kit?
I just purchased the LED Kit 10. When I opened it and compared it to the Technical Details found on this website, I found a discrepancy. According to the Technical Details, this kit should come with a 100w heater but included was a 50w heater. OK, which is correct?
Technical details on the site would be incorrect, and we have forwarded your question to the web moderator. You would not want to use a 100watt heater for a 10 gallon tank.

What is the difference between the penguin vs. emperor filters?
There are a few minor differences between these two filters. One comes down to flow rate and tank size rating. For instance, the Penguin 350 has a flowrate of 350 gph and is rated for tanks up to 75 gallons. The Emperor 400 filter (also a dual return filter like the Penguin 350) has a slightly higher flow rate at 400gph and is rated for tanks up to 80 gallons. These filters do take different size filter cartridges. The Emperors also come standard with an extra media container and also spray bars over the BIO-Wheels whereas on our penguin models, additional media containers are only available as separate, purchasable parts (for the 200 and 350 models only) and there are no spray bars with this product.

Heating unit that came with 10 gallon tank
There was no instructions with the heating unit. I see That there is a knob on top that you can adjust the temp but there is no accurate way to tell what its set at. there is a tank thermometer on front. is there anyway of know what temp the heater is at I know you sell one with a visual gauge on the front but this one doesn't and it isn't one that has the temp gauge on it like the one they sell by itself
You should see a + and a - sign on the top of the heater with a mark kind of like an arrow or triangle between them. The + represents 90 degrees; the - represents 68 degrees, in Fahrenheit. The mark represents 78 degrees, which is where you set it. If you need it a little warmer or cooler, you move the knob about one click, wait half an hour or so, give it time to adjust, basically, and move it another click. Do not adjust too quickly and always watch your thermometer.
