Pump noise.

I think my pump is louder than it should be. I can hear the water hitting/spilling into the tank water 2 rooms away. Is this normal or do i have it positioned wrong?
Asked by: saract
If you raise the water level just right you shouldn't hear any splashing. The motor and impeller should be louder than anything else. If you want a quite tank, get a canister filter.

What type of fish? Is this for saltwater or freshwater?

We are new at this. Is the tank for saltwater or for freshwater? Thanks! I have a BIO-Wheel LED Aquarium Kit, 55 Gallon Kit.
Asked by: SHSH
Can be used for either. If you wish to do saltwater, it would suit a fish only tank. With the addition of live rock, you would want to add Hidden Led lights. Brex

What is the average life of the LED light bar that comes with the 20 gallon kit?

I have the 20 gallon kit and was wondering how long on average before the LED lights start to "burn" out or the entire bar goes out. I have read some reviews say theirs have gone out in a matter of months while, others last over a year.
Asked by: blazingnate
We expect the leds to last years, when properly maintained. Most people who have not had them last as long as a year, are not taking proper precautions to keep water from getting into them. The light has a one year warranty. BREX

Do you have replacement hoods for 37 gallon LED tank?

I have 37 gal with stand. But the hood cracked. The light is fine, but I can't seem to find a hood.
Asked by: zaleskb1
Yes, of course. If you have the standard 37 gallon, the dimensions are 30 x 12". So our 30 x 12" hood would fit it. The item number is 75305 for a recessed black hood, fluorescent, NV33150 for a Tetra 30 x 12 LED hood or 32995 for a Marineland LED hood, in black. BREX

Replacement LED for KIT55?

We purchased the KIT 55 a little over a year ago, and while we (and our Oscars!) love it ,one of the Hood LEDs suddenly stopped functioning. The lights are only on during daytime hours, blue in the evening time, then off from 9pm - 7am so I'm pretty sure they aren't overused. The other LED is fine. I've searched for a replacement part but I haven't been successful in finding just the light itself (without the hood). Is this something that you can help me with?

integrity of 55 gallon glass panels

I purchased the Marineland 55 gallon aquarium kit in May 2013. I've always been extremely pleased with your products and now own several different gallon sized Marineland aquariums, as a result. Upon receiving my product and understandably so, it was quite heavy. A few days later after the aquarium was filled with water and all and set up, I did a closer inspection. I noticed that on one side of the aquarium, the longer glass panel is not flush against the connecting panels. Meaning that on one side, the longer glass panel overlaps the shorter panel as if wasn't measured exactly - so it it sticks out a little or overlaps the other. There's a little but of space between the black frame where I can see silicone and I can insert part of my finger between the space. While on the other side, the black frame is flush against the glass panels and black frame My concern is that because the black frame does not embrace the glass panels in a snug fashion and because the longer glass panel is a different measurement on one side, is it possible the aquarium will they give way one day and causes a disaster? There aren't any leaks and the silicone seems secure. I'd rather not disassemble everything as I live in an upper unit, if you, as the professional manufacturer can advise and reassure me. Thanks so much..
Asked by: Cindee
Hello Cindee, I sent your question to the engineer. From a structural perspective, , if the small end panels are pushed in a little rather than being flush, that is the better direction for them to be out of alignment. The tanks are hand-made and we do have some variation that can occur. We are always trying to improve quality. If the small panel is pushed in a bit then the full width of the panel is in contact with the large front panel, providing the greatest strength. If the small panel were extending the other way, out past the edge of the large panel, then you’d have less contact and you’d lose a slight amount of strength. In other words, it should be fine. If it bothers you aesthetically, however, we recommend returning it. BREX

Are you able to easily cutout sections for protein skimmers?

Are you able to easily cutout sections for protein skimmers?
Asked by: fishyfish
The material is easy to cut, yes. It would depend on the size tank you are looking at as the hoods have clips, and you may not be able to cut it without compromising the hood. Also, cutting it for a skimmer will void the warranty on the hood/light. BREX

Total Dimensions of Aquarium Kits

I need to know the exact dimensions of the kits. My tank will be housed in a built in bookcase, so it is crucial to know what the tallest dimension will be with the lighting lid and how much space the filter system takes up on the back of the tank. It was so much easier with the Eclipse system. I still don't understand why Marineland needed to change. It was a great way to enjoy this hobby! Next time, ask the consumers!
Asked by: shelleyscorner
Please click on the technical details tab on the product page for these kits: http://www.marineland.com/Products/fish-tank-aquarium-starter-kits/freshwater-saltwater-led-aquarium-kits.aspx#technical The dimensions of the kits are posted there, including height. Add 2" to the height for the light, and at least 6-10 inches for space between the tank and the wall, depending on which kit you are looking at, with the larger tanks requiring more space for a filter to fit properly. 55 gallon LED bright enough for Growing Dwarf Hairgrass?

Is the LED light on the 55 gallon model bright enough for growing Dwarf Hairgrass? If not, what kind of LED light do you suggest? I hope they are compatible with the lid of the kit.
Asked by: Lczhou9888
No, it would not be strong enough. You would have two choices. One would be to add two of the 21" Hidden LED lights. You would still use your original lights too, and add these under your frame. Option two is to replace the hoods with glass canopies and the Aquatic Plant LED. None of the other LEDS are going to be bright enough, as they are all in the 5500-6000 Kelvin range and you need 6500 for hairgrass. The second option is definitely pricey. The first option would do the job, no problem, at much less cost. BREX

I have the 20 gallon starter kit. Is the heater fully submersible?

I'm a complete beginner. I have set up the tank but to have the heater with the dial above the water level means the filter runs like a waterfall. Is the heater fully submersible which would allow me to raise the water level and stop the filter running so noisy
Asked by: AndyP
Andy, the heater is most certainly fully submersible and you are correct that by adding more water to increase the water level in your tank, you will hear less "noise" by way of your filter and the sound of running water. Marineland2

20g plants

you answered what i was asking .. i just tried to keep it as short as possible ... i was asking about the kit... but as a product i was referring to the kit, the light bar, or the hood/light combo, all seems to be the same light ... so i looked at Q & As for all 3 ... figured id be a lil more specific for anubias .... so for anubias in a 20G how many hours should i keep the hidden led (+ the light bar in the hood if needed) on a day
Asked by: andrewchris5
Plants in general, even low light ones, should have at least 10-12 hours per day. BREX

20g growing live plants

brex, between this and the hood and just the light bar ... the question has been asked about growing plants .. and even from you the answer varies ... im looking to grow anubias in the 20 gallon kit ..... will this do it .... if not then would the hidden led be too much light for anubias ??? i can just get a new top and single or double bright instead of the hidden ... if needed at all ... thanks
Asked by: andrewchris5
Well, your question is a bit confusing. The link indicates you are asking about the hood, but in your question, you ask "between this and the hood and the light bar...". So I am not sure what product you actually own. The hoods are not 6500 Kelvin, they are only 5500, and your anubias may live, but it won't thrive and it won't bloom (I grow anubias and other plants myself and have for years). The Single Bright would be the same situation. The anubias will live, and grow very, very slowly, but won't thrive, won't bloom. The Double Bright will definitely grow it and it will bloom occasionally, as it still is not 6500 Kelvin, but has more LEDs so more lumens. The Hidden LED is 6500 Kelvin and 460 nm so they will thrive, grow well, and bloom well under it. It is an inexpensive supplement for folks who have the wrong type of light and do not wish to move into the more difficult plants, and pricier lighting systems. If you wanted to grow Cardinalis, Madagascar lace, microsword, etc, you would want the Aquatic Plant Lighting System for the best results. I hope that clears it up. I'm trying to buy a Marineland tank kit and it mentions 5 sizes. OK, I'll bite....what are those sizes? I currently have 6g pillar and it's driving me nuts. WAYYYYY too deep and a pain to work with.( Who has a net or vacuum that's 16 inches long??? -what was I thinking) I've almost always used Marineland tanks and filters as when they were in the top they were easy to keep. Oh yeah...and no room for the heater cord...sigh. Sorry guys, the pillar is just not working for me. Do you still make acrylic top filtered wider then they are tall tanks?
Asked by: rookielynn
LOL. The Pillar is actually pretty popular, and we have several colleagues with them on their desks, I tend to like a long tank myself. The 5 LED kits I believe your link is referring to (links never work on my end), are the glass kits. They come in 10 gallon, 20 gallon, 29 gallon, 37 gallon, and 55 gallon. There is also a 28 Euro kit which is a really cool size. Long and deep, the best of both worlds in aquariums. I really like this one. As for acrylics, we only make the 4 Classic and the 6 Pillar, right now. There are always new ones coming out though, so I anticipate new acrylic kits soon. We do make a few others in our Tetra line, There are several nice ones there. All 5 gallons or less. Visit that site at www.tetra-fish.com, and click on products, then aquarium kits. BREX
