Broken Lid to the MARINELAND® BioWheel LED Aquarium Kit

We have the 20 gallon MARINELAND® BioWheel LED Aquarium Kit with the day/night light, and absolutely love it. Unfortunately, my husband just broke one of the prongs on the lid, that attach to one of the two clamps the holds the lid in place, whilst trying to clean it. Is it possible to purchase a replacement lid, with those clamps? We do not need the light, or filter, just the hood. Thanks.

Do you sell replacement lights for these kits?

Hello, I have a 20gallon Tall aquarium kit with the day and night setting light system. Unfortunately my toddler knocked the light system in the water and it stopped working. Is there anyway i could buy a replacement light system with the day and night features that will fit in the cover of the aquarium? Thank you, Rob
Asked by: Robburkhardt
Hi Rob, If you have the kit with the led light bar, that sits in a recessed area of the hood, this is called the Marineland LED Aquarium Light, and is readily available for around $20. These sites carry it: www.thatpetplace.com, www.petmountain.com, www.petsolutions.com, www.bigalsonline.com. B-Rex

Is it okay to have the moon light on all night? Is it safe for the fish or is it like having the regular lights on?

I just bought a ten gallon kit. It is remarkably much better than aquariums used to be when I was a kid. Very quiet and just great to look at. Thanks for your great products! I have been buying all of marinelands products; defiantly top of the line compared to the other brands.
Asked by: Tstall
Thank you for your kind words! We appreciate your support! Ideally, they should only be on for a few hours. Fish are like other animals; they need a day/night cycle too. B-Rex

LEDs getting wet.. intermittent problems with blue lights

I have the 10 gallon setup purchased in December 2013. We did not set up aquarium until January 15th, 2014. We have started having intermittent problems with the blue lights not coming on. I pulled the LED unit out, and found that it was wet with water seeping out of the led cavities and the seams. According to the question "LED Corrosion?" asked on July 31, 2013, there was a past problem with the lights getting wet and corroded that was solved. It would seem that I ended up with an old model. How can I get the corrected hood/lights? Thanks!
Asked by: CarlT
If you have the light bar version, make sure the lens cover is placed inside the hood correctly to avoid condensation. If this is the light strand version, it could certainly be an issue with the strand. You would need to call into us to process a warranty. 1-800-322-1266. B-Rex

There is no serial number on a kit. There are lot codes on each individual item. The kit itself would only have a UPC code. B-Rex

Is the glass supposed to bow when full?

I have just purchased a 29 gallon starter kit. When the tank is full, I get a bow in the center. It makes a small gap in the hood. The difference is approx 1/4 inch.
Asked by: Harley
Yes, it will bow, but the maximum allowed is .25", so it sounds like it is within specs. However, it is at the extreme end of our specification, so you may want to consider exchanging it if you just bought it new, from a store. B-Rex

I have a 10 gallon tank and my bio wheel will not spin, tried everything but it just stopped. Do you sell replacement wheels as Pet Smart where I

bought the kit does not. Pet Smart also mentioned that they have heard of this from other customers as well, not sure what the problem is.
Asked by: Wilson
Usually when a biowheel stops spinning, the first thing to do is to remove the impeller and impeller housing, and thoroughly clean both plus your intake tube and the filter box. The biowheel is affected by the water flow which is affected by sludge, minerals, other build up. If this does not start the biowheel up again, make sure the bearings (purple tabs) are in place and have not been lost. When cleaning the filter box be sure to remove any algae or sludge on the spillway that could be catching the biowheel. Replacement biowheels are available through local fish stores, our website, other sits, and catalog companies. We recommend www.aquariumguys.com, www.petsolutions.com, www.thatfishplace.com, www.petmountain.com to name a few. B-Rex

Tech Details wrong or wrong item in kit?

I just purchased the LED Kit 10. When I opened it and compared it to the Technical Details found on this website, I found a discrepancy. According to the Technical Details, this kit should come with a 100w heater but included was a 50w heater. OK, which is correct?
Asked by: rusty503
Technical details on the site would be incorrect, and we have forwarded your question to the web moderator. You would not want to use a 100watt heater for a 10 gallon tank. B-Rex

What is the difference between the penguin vs. emperor filters?

Asked by: Rexter369
There are a few minor differences between these two filters. One comes down to flow rate and tank size rating. For instance, the Penguin 350 has a flowrate of 350 gph and is rated for tanks up to 75 gallons. The Emperor 400 filter (also a dual return filter like the Penguin 350) has a slightly higher flow rate at 400gph and is rated for tanks up to 80 gallons. These filters do take different size filter cartridges. The Emperors also come standard with an extra media container and also spray bars over the BIO-Wheels whereas on our penguin models, additional media containers are only available as separate, purchasable parts (for the 200 and 350 models only) and there are no spray bars with this product. Heating unit that came with 10 gallon tank

There was no instructions with the heating unit. I see That there is a knob on top that you can adjust the temp but there is no accurate way to tell what its set at. there is a tank thermometer on front. is there anyway of know what temp the heater is at I know you sell one with a visual gauge on the front but this one doesn't and it isn't one that has the temp gauge on it like the one they sell by itself
Asked by: Scott1124
You should see a + and a - sign on the top of the heater with a mark kind of like an arrow or triangle between them. The + represents 90 degrees; the - represents 68 degrees, in Fahrenheit. The mark represents 78 degrees, which is where you set it. If you need it a little warmer or cooler, you move the knob about one click, wait half an hour or so, give it time to adjust, basically, and move it another click. Do not adjust too quickly and always watch your thermometer. B-Rex

gap in the hood of aquarium kit

Please tell me what will keep condensation out of the led lights if I buy a 55 gallon kit since the hood has a gap in it? Thank you.
Asked by: Skipper
I am not sure what gap you are referring to. There is an area where the filter fits of course, and where the light goes, there should be a clear cover that slides into place. It will fit two ways, one way gives a tight fit, the other way may leave a very small edge of space open. If you did not get this lens cover, give us a call. 1-800-322-1266. B-Rex

Using more than one Penguin power filter on my 37 gallon tank?

Can I add an additional unit to my 37 gallon tank to supplement the Penguin 200, or must I buy a larger unit and remove the knock-out on the lid?
Asked by: Newfiemeister
Hello, As long as you can get the additional filter to fit in with your current hood, you may certainly add in a secondary filter. The further away you have your filters from each other, the better filtration you will achieve. If they are too close in proximiity, the second filter will simply re-filter the water that just returned into the tank from the first filter. ML2

Are we missing something?

We just set up a Half Moon 30 which was a display model at a local pet store. It has a clear plastic canopy, but we are surprised that there is a large uncovered area (presumably for a tank-edge mounted filter) which is around 6" x 3". It is big enough for our cats to go fishing so we definitely need to cover it. Are we missing a part?
Asked by: Garry
Garry, To answer your questions the clear covers have been designed with a filter cut out that fit the following filters: Half Moon 20 - filter cut out dimensions are: 5.906" x 2.638". Recommended filters: Penguin 100 or Tetra EX20 Half Moon 30 - filter cut out dimensions are: 8.500" x 3.500". Recommended filters: Penguin 150 or Tetra EX30 ML2

Is the lighting with the 20 LED kit suitable for live plants

Need to know, I have moss balls, amazon sword tail plants, etc. and need to know if the lighting with your standard 20 LED kit is suitable, or will I need to replace it? What is the wattage per bulb?
Asked by: Nick6969
Nick, Hello and to answer your question no, this kit's LED lighting is not meant to sustain live plant growth. With wattage, there is no true comparison of traditional fluorescent/incandescent to LED's as wattage only means how much energy it takes to run the lights, not the true potential of the light energy. Instead, you would want to rate a light based on lumens, PAR and lux. We do offer an Aquatic Plant LED light which is designed to both sustain plant light and encourage aquatic plant growth. ML2

Asked by: nibbs
The heater has a thermostat so it will automatically go on and off to keep the temp you set it at. It should have a little line on the top by the adjustment nob. If set on that line it should be around 78 - 80 degrees F.

Is a bubbling aerator needed on the LED 20 gallon tank or does the bio-wheel accomplish all necessary aeration?
Asked by: recusancy
For most fish you wont need any extra aeration. Research the fish you want before you buy them and keep in mind that the higher the water temperature the less oxygen can be in the water. So if you want really delicate fish that also need higher water temps and their gills are working really fast they probably would be more comfortable with an air stone.

Pump noise.

I think my pump is louder than it should be. I can hear the water hitting/spilling into the tank water 2 rooms away. Is this normal or do i have it positioned wrong?
Asked by: saract
If you raise the water level just right you shouldn't hear any splashing. The motor and impeller should be louder than anything else. If you want a quite tank, get a canister filter.

Can be used for either. If you wish to do saltwater, it would suit a fish only tank. With the addition of live rock, you would want to add Hidden Led lights. Brex

What is the average life of the LED light bar that comes with the 20 gallon kit?

I have the 20 gallon kit and was wondering how long on average before the LED lights start to "burn" out or the entire bar goes out. I have read some reviews say theirs have gone out in a matter of months while, others last over a year.
Asked by: blazingnate
We expect the leds to last years, when properly maintained. Most people who have not had them last as long as a year, are not taking proper precautions to keep water from getting into them. The light has a one year warranty. BREX

Do you have replacement hoods for 37 gallon LED tank?

I have 37 gal with stand. But the hood cracked. The light is fine, but I can't seem to find a hood.
Asked by: zaleskb1
Yes, of course. If you have the standard 37 gallon, the dimensions are 30 x 12". So our 30 x 12" hood would fit it. The item number is 75305 for a recessed black hood, fluorescent, NV33150 for a Tetra 30 x 12 LED hood or 32995 for a Marineland LED hood, in black. BREX
