Why is the pump not working correctly

I just cleaned the filter and put in new filters. The bio wheel is not turning at all and the fish poops are collecting on the surface. I have too take them out with a strainer. This is the second bio wheel that I purchased. Also one if the clips that attach the hood to the tank broke, can this be replaced? The aquarium is a 37 gallon led with a bio wheel 200
Asked by: mochismom
The bio wheel is affected greatly by flow rate. When it does not turn on its own, you want to remove the impeller, intake tube, and impeller housing and thoroughly clean all of them with distilled white vinegar and a soft cloth. Also, clean out the bottom of the filter box where the impeller resides, with a q tip and white vinegar. Also, check and be sure the biowheel bearings are in place, and were not lost during a previous filter change, etc. They are purple tabs the biowheel rests in. In regards to the clip, call into the support staff and they can assist you with that; 1-800-322-1266. BREX

What is the wattage of LED light?

I have a 20 gallon aquarium kit with LED light. What is the wattage of the LED light?
Asked by: flyfree
LED is not evaluated by wattage. Lumens and Kelvin is what is important. That particular light is 5900 Kelvin. Lumens is 7.4 per LED bulb. Wattage is 60mW. The only information wattage gives you is the amount of energy being produced or used, rather. BREX

We are not able to fill to the top the water level because we are not sure if the heater can be underwater. the heater is positioned all the way to the top. Starter kit 20 gallon.

The heater is fully submersible, and can be horizontal or vertical, any where in the tank. It just cannot be buried in the gravel. BREX

Filter assembly on the 10 gallon Marineland® Bio-Wheel LED Aquarium Kit

The assembly for the Penguin filter, when following the directions, is too long for the tank. The intake will not fit in the tank when the filter is resting on the edge. Thoughts?
Asked by: Newbie
You are using the extension which is for a 20 gallon tank. The 10 gallon only requires the intake tube and bottom strainer. BREX

How full do I fill up a 10 gallon led tank?

Got about 3/4 now but has moisture around top, not pretty.
Asked by: bianca
All fish tanks should be filled to just below the top frame of the tank, so you cannot see water deposits, hear a lot of splashing or even see a water line. BREX

I just got the 10 gallon kit. The Bio-Wheel filter motor is very loud - can I use a quieter filter,;what do you revommend? 2. Heater: only as need?

The heater heated the water to 85 degrees - not sure how to adjust down - Pet store told me 74 to 78 degrees for freshwater tank this size. Can I just use it as needed to bring temp up? Also kit seemed unopened, but did NOT contain thermometer!

Marineland Bio Wheel LED Aquarium Kit 20 gallon- LED lighting and plants...

Is the LED lighting in the Marineland Bio Wheel LED Aquarium Kit, 20 gallon, sufficient lighting for plants in a planted aquarium? If not, is there a replacement lighting system that will fit on the 24 inch hood OR is there a replacement 24 inch hood that will fit the dimensions of the tank top and the have room for the Bio Wheel filter?
Asked by: Carri
I have the 55G LED aquarium kit and have had success growing low light plants such as Anubias, Crypts, Java moss and ferns in a freshwater setup but plants requiring more light wattage would need a different LED setup such as their aquatic plant lighting system. By going that route you would need to replace the hood that comes with the 20G kit with a clear hood or no hood at all.

10G exact dimensions with hood

What are the exact dimensions of the 10 gallon tank with the hood attached? I am planning to put the aquarium on a bookshelf and I only have 13" in height clearance. Thanks!
Asked by: FisherKing
If you are looking at the LED light strand kit, it would be right at 13". If you are looking at the LED lit with the light bar, it would be almost 16". In both cases, you also have a filter on the back that is going to be at least 2-3" higher than the tank as well. Bookshelves typically do not make the best spots for tanks. Water can be splashed out or spilled, and ruin items surrounding the bookshelves. Also, if a tank is not on a level surface capable of bearing that much weight, it can be disastrous. BREX

Can these aquarium kits hoods be used with live rock in a saltwater fish-only system?

Hi, I've currently got the 29 gallon aquarium kit set up. According to this site you can use these kits with saltwater too. Are the lighting goods okay to be used with live rock in a fish only system or would I have to invest in another lighting system for the live rock? Thank you in advance!!!!!
Asked by: chrisz21
They are best in fish only tanks, not live rock, etc. Not quite bright enough for live rock. You could use them in conjunction with a Hidden LED light. BREX

10 Gallon kit intake length

I must be missing something because the intake tube length is too long for my 10 gallon tank. I have the Penguin Model 100 that comes with the 10 gallon kit. Thanks
Asked by: v33n
You are using more pieces than you need. For the 10 gallon tanks, use only the upper intake tube and the bottom strainer, not the two middle pieces. The middle pieces, mid-level strainer and extension, are for folks with a 20 gallon tank. BREX

Heater

I bought the 37G kit and the heater that comes with it is presumably fully submersible', however there is a mark on it that says 'maximum water level' on the transparent part. I haven't taken the water level above that, but I need to or else the miniscus is still visible and that doesn't look that great. Because of the hood of the aquarium, I also can't pull the heater much higher. What do you suggest, is this heater actually fully submersible despite the maximum height warning?
Asked by: Raza
Good afternoon, Raza. The little squiggly marked line on our Marineland Visi-Therm heaters actually reads,"minimum water level," not maximum. The heater is in fact, fully submersible. Kind Regards, Marineland2

Are the mid level intake strainer and extension tube really necessary for a 10 gallon aquarium?

I have a 10 gallon tank and was planning on putting it together, but I noticed that when the mid level strainer and extension tube are put together, they are way too long for the filter to rest on the side of the tank. I have the model 100 filter, which is what came with the aquarium kit. I was thinking about either simply leaving both parts out and attaching the bottom strainer to the intake tube, or cutting the extension tube down so both strainers can fit in the tank.
Asked by: JRICE
JRice, Good day to you. You are correct when you state that all of the extension attachments would be too long for the depth of a 10 gallon aquarium. Because we do have aquariums with different heights, we include a variety of tube accessories to best fit all scenarios. You can certainly use just the intake tube and attach the strainer cap to the end of this tube (this is the most commonly used solution). If you so choose to add in the mid-level intake strainer and the extension tube please be careful in cutting the extension tube. Also make sure that regardless of your setup, that you allow space for water to freely enter the strainer cap and not blocked by gravel, plants, decor etc. Marineland2

Do the measurements for the aquariums, in the "technical details" section go by Length, Width, then Height?

I'm interested in the MARINELAND FRESHWATER LED AQUARIUM KIT 29 or 37 gallon LED Kit 29 30 x 12" x 18" (Is 18", the height or width of this aquarium?) LED Kit 37 30 x 12" x 24" (Is 24", the height or width of this aquarium?

Hi Deborah, Yes, we do have just a hood for the 10 gallon sized tank, that comes with an LED light. You can also purchase a glass canopy separately, then a Single Bright or Double Bright LED, which gives a bit more light than the one with the full hood. See the links below. BREX

Heater question

I purchased the 10 gallon LED aquarium kit. It is being prepared for fish that will be coming in a few days. There is little information about the heater. When I first plugged it in, a light came on. But the light has gone off. Does this mean it is not working? I've only been using it for 2 days.
Asked by: Andrea
Well, what does your thermometer say? If the temperature is between 76-80 degrees Fahrenheit, the heater will not be on very often or for very long. if the thermometer is reading cooler, the heater is not working. At this time of year, heaters are rarely necessary. BREX

Is the Penguin Biowheel filter supposed to be so loud?

We set up the 10-gallon LED aquarium kit this afternoon and were very disappointed that the Penguin Biowheel filter is SO loud! The sound has a lot of vibration to it. We had to drain the aquarium and put it in a different room. Can I get a new or different, quieter filter to replace this one?
Asked by: jkinsc
First, filters have a break in period, usually 24-48 hours. Second, it may have had air bubbles trapped around the impeller, which work out within 24-48 hours, hence, the break in period. This is a very common problem. Third, you can also try removing the impeller from the impeller housing and re-inserting it, in case the person on the production line inserted it a little bit too far, and the blades are actually rubbing the base of the impeller housing. It is a good idea to get familiar with doing this anyway, since you need to monthly, in order to clean the filter and keep it in good, working order. And finally, if there is a vibration due to a defect, if you contact the support staff at 1-800-322-1266 they will be happy to assist you with a replacement impeller, OR you may return the filter to the store for an exchange. I have the marineland 37 gallon aquarium and was wondering if the penguin 350 filter would work with this model

Asked by: misty123
Fantastically! The Emperor 350 is more than sufficient to maintain a 37g. aquarium in top condition. It is usually recommended for a filter to turn around the aquarium water 4 to 5 times per hour. So, the 350 gph would be more that appropiate for a 55g aquarium let alone a 37g. Good choice of filter I would say. I have three running on three separate 55g tanks and the water is pristine. Just remember to change at least 10% of your water weekly or 30% bi-weekly to keep your fish healthy and your ammonia levels in check. And replace your pads every 2 or so months and rinse them thoroughly during each water change. Best of luck!
